The Meaning of The Silent

The Silent is represented by the image of a white skull on a
black field, often times accompanied by a rose, candle, dagger,
or other object representing affection, mourning, or violence.
[size=14pt]This initial imagery may seem to clearly represent
the Silent's past as an Assassin's guild, or the organizations
relationship with death. After all, The Silent operate out of a
catacomb. Comparing the name to the image, one can conclude The
Silent refers to the dead. Mouse will often ask an individual
that discovers her in her place of gathering a certain question:
"Have you come to pay your respects to the dead?". This has
become a sort of code for her to see if one is a potential
recruit who knows of their organization, or a random mourner.
The dead, she will say, get too little respect. They are silent
and unable to speak or fight for themselves, and so the
catacombs suffer constant desecrations and the Cathedral above
turns a blind eye. There is no reward in them expending huge
effort to protect the sanctity of the dead, and they instead
focus on a militaristic ideology adopted by Paladins and Priests
of combat.
Mouse believes the poor and the oppressed are the same way. The
wealthy of Stormwind do not care for them because the weak do
not 'speak loudly' enough if their actions. They are unable to
fight for what they need, and are shown no mercy by those that
have the power to help.
In this, through interaction with The Silent a character may
come to see that the name actually refers to the people, who are
silently oppressed and disregarded as though their lives are
worthless, as though they are already dead.
Those that 'speak for the dead', who stand up and protect those
who can not protect themselves are symbols of Justice beyond any
zealous individual with holy powers. As a people we are all part
of The Silent, and we must all struggle to have our voices
heard. This is the ideology behind Mouse's vigilantism.
We do this through compassion towards the weak (The Flower),
honor towards acts of true good (The Candle), and striking fear
in the hearts of the corrupt (The Dagger).
