The Darkest Dungeon Runs!
By: Marustika Date: May 16, 2016, 8:25 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Ladies and gentlemen I've decided to announce a new sort of
dungeon run, one not for the faint of heart. In my "Darkest
Dungeon" events, all characters that sign up may be subjected
(but not limited) to: Insanity, mutilation, appalling horrors,
and PERMANENT DEATH. This game type is meant to up the stakes
and give off the feeling like this is for real. Injuries and
mental strain carry over, increasing the odds of character
elimination. But don't lose hope! I will discuss a mini game
that occurs after the Darkest Dungeon runs once a week that is
designed to bring back ONE dead player character, but that comes
later. For now here are the tentative mechanics that are subject
to change/improve as I learn more.
Synopsis: D.D. is all about dungeon crawling and racing to the
end before you either die or go mad. No one is safe. Groups of
4-5 players start on a map visible to the DM. You all decide
what directions to take in this blind maze; One wrong turn could
mean everyone taking damage, or even spawning the end-game boss!
Or nothing, who knows? This game mode features the SANITY
mechanic. What is it? Well basically every class has a set
amount of sanity and if it drops to zero, you go mad. You go
mad, you either: Die of a heart attack or attack another player
and will be subject to execution. Keep in mind, players CAN kill
you. There is no way to regain sanity. Sanity is slowly lost
during the game as you move between rooms, but triggering a
horrific trap or viewing an especially terrifying enemy/boss
takes more. After taking damage during combat, you lose a
minimal amount of sanity. But as I said, there is NO way to get
it back, so race to the end!
This game is played for the sheer thrill. During our normal
events characters can die but most people want to keep them
alive for the sake of fun rp. It's casual and that's okay. But
this is high stakes. You offer an alt and roll the dice. People
are encouraged to risk the lives of their main characters. Main
characters get a small buff and are less likely to die, but if
they do they are GONE. So choose wisely.
Character Classes:
Gladiator: Obvious in form and function. Has the highest health
of the classes but deals lower damage than melee or ranged dps.
Can spend a turn gaining aggro (subject to fail after a poor
roll) so that the characters in rear to mid position get hit
less. Tanks can also buff themselves or one character per
encounter with increased hp.
Spec: TANK
HP:18
Sanity:100
Damage: 2-4(crit)
HP Buff: +5
Hunter: A ranged dps that picks off enemies. Can deal high
single target damage, terrible at AOEs. Is able to skip their
turn to deal double damage on their next successful hit.
Spec: DPS
HP:12
Sanity:80
Damage: 5-8, 10-16 with double damage buff applied
Assassin: A melee fighter that can cripple enemies and apply
bleeding/poison damage. Is the only class that can apply DOTs to
enemies. A turn can be spent applying either poison or stealth
on the character. Poison enables attacks to apply DOTS, Stealth
guarantees a critical strike on their next successful hit.
Certain enemies can break stealth.
Spec: DPS
HP: 14
Sanity: 70
Damage: 2-3 for up front strike, 1-2 for DOTs (last for 3
turns), 8-16 for stealthed attack (successful hit breaks
stealth)
Mage: A ranged fighter with incredible AOE potential but
terrible HP. The mage deals solely in group strikes, whittling
down mobs during encounters.
Spec: DPS
HP: 10
Sanity:90
Damage: 1-2 for up to three targets, 2-3 for two targets, and
3-4 for single targets.
Healer: Self explanatory. The healer is the ONLY class that can
mend others, outside of players using healing items.
HP:8
Sanity: 100
Damage: 0-1
Healing: 1-2 for multiple targets, 3-4 for single target healing
As mentioned previously, there will be a mini-game that takes
places after a run of the D.D.. This game is titled "Kill, Die,
Survive!" The overall premise will be that every character that
has died is trapped in a literal hell, crafted/run by the Story
Boss of the D.D. campaign (Yes there will be story!). In this
hell, you must successfully kill another trapped character to
escape and come back. You can also buy your way out by promising
to send someone to take your place. What this means is you make
a contract to kill one player's character during the dungeon run
in the mortal world. If you fail or die again, you're out
permanently. Think of it like double or nothing. I will update
this with the exact rules shortly after the first game, so
please be patient.
I intend to run these events at least once every two weeks. Like
I said, you all are encouraged to offer up alts to the chopping
block. If you have any problems concerning me or any other DM
killing/mind controlling your character, do NOT play. This is
meant to be hard core. I hope you all sign up, this will be
starting very shortly.

Sounds awesome. I'm super excited! Would you like people to post
Sign-ups and class picks here?
