       Sega Saturn article

I found this article on the Sega Saturn take a look
  HTML http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/may/14/sega-saturn-how-one-decision-destroyed-playstations-greatest-rival
Its a great system for 2D games ! Games were released with a 4MB
Ram cart that increased the Ram of the system and the quality of
the conversions. Xmen vs Streetfighter ran brilliantly on Saturn
with the tag team action working great on PS1 it was heavily
watered down as it did not have the ram to fit the animation
       frames into its memory
Saturn had a total of 4MB of ram or 8 with the cart seems
nothing now when phones have 2 or more Gig of Ram !

       great article, enjoyed reading that.
What stuck out for me was the bit about Sonys marketing - i
never realised it back then but looking back they were at genius
level. If any company wants to look at how to successfully
market a new product then the PS1 campaign was it. The
announcement just being '299' was sheer genius and just shot
everyone else out of the water. The following paragraph also
accurately describes life in the mid 90's for me:
But Sony was already shifting upward, targeting its ads at
twentysomethings, licensing dance music soundtracks, sponsoring
club nights. It saw a future of post-pub gaming sessions, it saw
a new audience of young professionals with disposable incomes,
using their formative working careers as an extended
       adolescence.

       Good find Willow.
Agree about the 20 something's and disposable income.
My first major purchase at 21 years of age, just after being
posted to my first RAF base in London, with my newly acquired
'Solo' credit card? Yep.......A PlayStation one.
I can testify to the after bar sessions til stupid o' clock the
       following morning.
You know one time as my first psone had gotten older and over
used , the discs weren't reading and I ended up chucking it on
the floor. I ended up going to town the next morning and buying
myself another one like it was a Pont of beer. ! What it was to
be a professional, young and single.
       Great times 😁

when i bought my PS 1 it was just a snap decision, then i spent
hours circulating the area trying to locate one (as it was just
after Christmas), i managed to find one at a tiny electrical
shop near Catterick (massive army base) - i was lucky cos it was
only there due to the person who reserved it hadnt come back to
       pay for it.
As for the way it fit into my social life, we would go round to
a friends house on a saturday as his wife would be out for the
day with her friends. A crate of beer would be bought and we
would hammer stuff like Gran Tourismo all afternoon, then go out
pubbing or clubbing on a night before returning to the ps1 for a
       couple of hours.
How we ever passed the licence challenges in Gran Tourismo i
will never know - i could barely manage to co-ordinate my hands
and eyes let alone drive a car on a tv screen.
