"Nothing of imminent concern, I'd think. My space agency is very
eager to begin work at Curiosity, however; I feel we'll have a
great amount of progress in the near future.
"One thing I'd like to discuss is, well, the environment. I've
tried my best to recover my nation, but we are still struggling
with the impacts from our decisions. I think it would be
interesting to hear how you are managing."

"Well above 10% of our GDP is spent on the Environment, its been
a real challenge trying to grow an eco-friendly economy. The
easiest if not most radical, as I did in my first day in office,
is establish an effective ban on Automobiles. This significantly
reduced our Carbon footprint as well as simultaneously placed
the economy in a long recession that we are just now rebounding
from. However I fear for the economic future as most of the
economy as it stands is reliant on a war economy, as war
machines are exempt from meeting environmental standards.
Farmers in the West of the State are doing good, less so that
Appalachia has effectively disappeared, we relied heavily on the
manure imported from their cattle to accelerate our growth, but
we are managing. Companies pay steep fines if they are found in
violation of environmental standards, more recently our economy
took another hit when I decided to strengthen the tax codes,
eliminating the loop holes that some of the larger corporations
were found to be exploiting, in turn they fled the State and
have presumptuously have fled to West Phoenicia to find work."
He sighs, and begins again, "Other than that, all I can tell you
is that is does not come without significant cost. Airline
Taxes, strict environmental standards, renewable energy, all
while juggling the needs of maintaining an army and a global
presence is taxing. I have no easy answers or solid advice."

The President frowned. "... I see. I suppose we're making our
way to environmental recovery, but... well, I can't take the
same steps you did. My nation's home to not only one of the
NCSA's biggest car companies, but Heeler Auto is a world leader
in cars- taking them out would torpedo my economy, and I can't
have that. Although I think we're on our way. At the very least,
almost all of our energy comes from nuclear power."
He paused a moment, taking a drink. "And, yes, defense is
another topic. Being on different sides of the continent makes
it... difficult, to say the least, to try and interact. I'm sure
you can see why I stayed out of the civil war... I just didn't
see the reason to march across thousands of miles.
"Now, I can try to interact with you, at least your Navy; I have
submarines that can easily make the trip by going under the ice.
And should the need come, we're developing super-heavy
transports; you'll see one up close if you go to DEN's air
show."
