Foremost it should not be personal.
In politics you have left wing, moderate and right wing
Each of those have sub group. Ie centre can lean right or left
same for the other factions.
Every state has this to some degree. So in Congress if someone
proposes a bill. It should not be looked at from the point this
person is my friend in real life so I need to support them. Same
for joining a party if your state is communist you wouldn't join
a right wing party and visa versa.
If a bill presented would be in opposition to your states values
or political leaning or falls into your states values or
politics. It is ok to support it or oppose it without people
acting otherwise. Its about being in character which many people
are missing. You all voiced you want some realism. So start
acting it. Best interest of your state.
That being said in real life often bills proposed by a member of
an opposite party may have merit for your state that needs to be
looked at to. Unless your party has a rule in place where you
can only vote along party lines and no ability for a conscience
vote it should be fine to support or oppose it without some
drama.
