Aragorn chuckled, satisfied that he had gotten his proposal
accepted so quickly.
"On the dotted line at the bottom of the page", he said, hand
Maximus a pen.
"Our nations will become powerful with this alliance, no doubt.
This treaty is a big step forward for Gondor, and for DEN,
comrade. This is but one of Gondor's diplomatic missions in
Alaska. This one was the most important, so I came myself."
His tone then became more serious, and it was quieter than
before.
"As we speak, Johnathan Gray, my new steward, is going to
Cor'Therma to meet with President Heidrich. Should they accept
our treaty, Gondor will have friendly relations with Alaska, an
absolutely massive trading boost for us. Our states are going to
become rich, Maximus. We have strong economies already, but this
will make us pillars of monetary stability in the NCSA."
Aragorn's face then returned to being somewhat relaxed, but he
maintained his aura of seriousness. He cleared his throat, and
began talking once more.
"We have both seen what went down in Esnax, with multiple
atrocities committed, and the monarchists defeated. The
Socialist government is soon to be in place there, and that is
most certainly a victory for the Socialist Pact. What are we to
do when more wars like this erupt? Shall we always intervene on
the side of whom we think is best for that state?"

Maximus walked behind his desk and took a pen out from the pen
holder on top, sitting down and placing the declaration down
besides him. He signed his name in a flurry of scribbles, then
put the pen back into it's holder, standing up. He pointed
towards the declaration, and nodded. "DEN will most definitely
intervene for the Socialists. The East wants to spread. They
want to make our world Capitailst. Because they are afraid,
Tovarishch. They do not know well enough. We, the West, have
become a firm supporter of Socialism. So yes, we shall
intervene."

"Good to know, comrade. Gondor is a mix of socialism and
capitalism, for we try to find the best of both worlds. We will
not force our ideals upon others, given the negative connotation
that monarchies now get based on Esnax. I will now sign this
treaty, and it shall be official."
Aragorn picked up the document, signed it, and gave a sigh of
relief.
"We have done a great thing today, Maximus. Thank you. Is there
anything else you wish to discuss?"

"Will you be joining the Socialist Pact?" He asked as he sat
down, looking over at him.

Aragorn looked up at Maximus, a mysterious look crossing his
face. The twinkle in his eyes gave no immediate answer. The
subject was a curious one, one that had no clear yes or no
response. He cleared his throat, and answered the question with
careful wording.
"Comrade, the question you pose is not an easy one for me to
answer right away. Gondor joining the Socialist Pact has
numerous benefits, yes, but there are enough cons to make one
think twice.
The benefits are this: we are protected in the event of war,
will have dramatic technological advancements, and get richer
through trade. These are all great things that would make Gondor
one of the best states in the mainland, more so than it already
is.
The cons present themselves as well. We are not a Socialist
state, firstly. We are monarchists, and while we promote
regulating our corporations and fighting for worker's rights,
but we also like free trade. Strongly regulated capitalism, if
you will. And since our systems of government differ, a monarchy
joining a Socialist Pact would seem an oxymoron to me. Joining
the Socialist Pact would also strain our relationship with many
of our more conservative neighbors, possibly hindering trade and
any hope of maintaing a reputation as a well liked state. I
signed a specific treaty with DEN for these reasons. But, I am
not narrow minded. There is still a chance that Gondor could
join the Socialist Pact.
Tell me, comrade. What could the Socialist Pact do for my nation
that I have not already thought of? I am open to joining, like I
said."

"Not much more than I have provided, but that we are essentially
of the closest ties. Unfortunately, you'd have to be completely
socialist to join." He mentioned, and shrugged. They were the
most Socialist nation in the country, but unfortunately, he
couldn't convert everyone.

"Then it is that our alliance shall be based on this treaty,
Maximus. I will not change my form of government to socialism,
with all due respect. I would alienate far too much of my
population. It would mean a civil war that I am not willing to
fight. But, socialism will be more present in Gondor, with my
Lord High Treasurer being a renowned socialist. Our economic
system may change drastically, and soon. Of course I can
overrule her at any point, but I plan on working with her to
institute deep reforms to our banking system. We have
established a central bank, and much of the gold and silver we
get from you will be invested in there. Would you be interested
in dealing with our central bank? We can hold your money or
other assets in a secure faction, for low interest rates,
provided that the accounts are large."

"I'm sure I can provide a few dollars, as emergency money, to
the banking system. Provided I have complete security." He said,
smiling.

"But of course, comrade." Aragorn said with a smirk on his face.
"Your accounts will be heavily guarded, with as much security as
we can give you. DEN is our only official ally, so you get first
priority in everything we do."
