       Haunted Swamp!
   DIR By: Nodnarb162
       Date: November 13, 2012, 6:00 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
This is my Haunted Swamp! I built it for a contest in LEGO
Universe, The contest was to build a haunted property of some
kind, we had about a 2 week deadline to finish it. sadly they
announced shortly after the deadline that LU was closing, so
they never officially announced the winners. I placed silver in
the contest, but because of all the delays I wasn't able to
recieve the prizes I won because they were retired. I instead
recieved a gift card and I bought the LEGO Shuttle expedition
with it (which I prefered to the prizes anyways)
So for building this model, because of the deadline, I decided
to build it directly in LU instead of starting in LDD like I
       usually do.
I first looked up online and decided what I wanted it to look
like, I planned to make an ordinary old house on a rocky hill
overlooking a swamp, so I started in the corner of the prop and
built the rocky base, which was by far the longest proccess in
building because I wanted it to have a random look, so I placed
each rock one at a time randomly. after this was done I built
the first floor and then started with the main floors walls.
this was much faster to build because I could copy and paste
most sections of it for other walls. I added then furniture and
stuff and basically repeated for the second floor. while I was
searching online for inspiration I found a cool technique for a
roof using chairs upside down as shingles, so I modified this
technique to my liking. I added some finishing touches and The
building portion was complete, all I had left was to add
       behaviors to everything.
for those of you who didn't play LU, behaviors were functions
you could program models with, like making a model move up and
down when pressing shift near it. I had my prop programmed to do
a number of things. upon entering the property you were greated
buy a vampire version of an NPC from the game, He told you some
basic stuff about the prop and then warned you about ghosts and
such. when you walked down the path a bit you ran into the
mystery gang from Scooby doo, they all said different stuff
typical of there characters: like shaggy saying "zoinks!" or
Velma asking for help finding her glasses. if you decided to
look around the prop you would get chased by crocodiles that
were programed to damage you. once you made it to the house you
could walk up the stairs to the front door, but once you tried
to enter, the floor boards broke away and you fell into a cage
in a hidden lab below the house. once you managed to escape the
lab you could interact with all the various characters around
the house, in the basement Dr frankenstien was making a
maelstrom monster and he would do a evil laugh when you went
near him, And an Igor character would tell you about your fate
as a lap experiment. on the first floor there was a witch in the
kitchen cooking minifig head stew and she offered you a taste, a
werewolf was waiting in the dinning room for dinner, and A
Dracula like vampire character was sitting on the couch watching
TV on the ceiling with his mummy pal below with popcorn worrying
about how he would watch TV if he can't hang from ceilings.
upstairs a vampire wife was trying to get ready for a monster
mash party, but was having difficulty putting makup on because
she couldn't see her reflection, down the hall there was a bunch
of ghosts in room full of flying furniture, and across the hall
was another room with bed with spikes above it and minifig
skeletons strewn about. up on the roof on the very upmost point
of the tower was a poor minifig about to be eaten by a gaint
spider (this minifig was a model of my twin brothers character
and the model advertised his prop when you intereacted with it)
all in all I was very pleased with how my house turned out.
Although I am sad I didn't get very many pictures, but I made
sure to snatch the LDD files from the game before it closed, so
if anyone want's to see more of it just send me a message :)

Wow! Looks superb! I am ever impressed with your digital
prowess! How do you get all those crazy angles like the spider
       and the coffin?

Thanks! I made the crazy angles using hinges, I carefully lined
them up how I wanted them, then deleted the hinges and used a
combination of clips plus poles on every axis to slide it to
precisely where I wanted it, then I could group the sections
together and do it again with the groups
