The Dragonfly

Like most of my MOCs this started off as a model built in LDD.
It started with an idea for the tail/engine, then I built the
rest of the ship around it. :P At the time that it was built, it
used buyable pieces. I wanted to buy it, but I didn't want to
pay the absurd price that designbyme charged. I ended up finding
as many parts as I could in my collection, and then bought the
rest through pick-a-brick.

Nice; I like how well the design translates from the digital
realm to real life. It sounds like you spent a lot of time and
effort on this as well; and the design is very unique. I
definitely understand where the dragonfly aspect enters the
picture, between the wings, tail, and general design of the
ship. The colour scheme is awesome too, I must say. =D

Very impressive design.. clever use of several elements.
I have always disliked the outrageous cost of DBM.. mostly for
the box... I use pick a brick as well, and often the LEGO store
will pick the parts for me if I fax them a list...

@Blade: When I get inspiration, or have a good idea for
something I want to build, I kind of get obsessive and go crazy,
and work on my MOC nonstop. I usually get things this size built
in 2 or 3 days, with a lot of tinkering and tweaking afterwards.
I usually end up with good results, but sometimes I just don't
like how things turn out, and I end up scrapping the whole
thing. Sometimes I will come back to a scrapped idea months
later and build a much better version. It's not exactly a good
habit for someone in school like me, and I end up plastered to
my computer for hours at a time.
I wish I had saved some of the prototypes and the sketch I made
(more like scribbles. I'm not very good at drawing) this ship
turned out a lot better than I thought it would. As for the
color scheme; that was more the result of laziness. Black, grey,
and white were the easiest colors to build with in LDD.
@MsRowdyRedhead: I only ever bought 2 things from DBM (back when
it was still called factory) one was a bunch of plant monsters
(that were kind of silly, and a waste of money) and the other
was a ship I will post on here soon. After I discovered the
online Pick-a-brick had the same piece selection as LDD, I
probably wouldn't have ever bought anything from DBM again.
BTW, you can order pick-a-brick pieces from your local LEGO
store?

I can definitely understand that; it's a case of 'been there
done that' for me. xD Back when I was still building a lot with
real life pieces(Back before I got too busy to really do
anything much... This past year or so has been so hectic. D=), I
used to go back to one design, work on it, leave it for a bit,
and then return to refine it. I have like 5 different versions
of my old Toa because of that(which is aptly named Toa Blade.
=P). I think I still have some pics of some of the more recent
versions that I should put up here. Anyway; it can be a bad
thing, but in terms of MOCing a good product, it is a very handy
idea. =)
Well, no matter the reasons for the colours(Though I do have to
agree on the reasons; LDD isn't exactly the best for that.
Though Extended really helps, if you don't plan to make real
life reconstructions of things, due to part issues or other
similar reasons), it turned out very well in the end, and
transparent pieces are always nice for stuff that will glow.
Especially if it's a green of some sorts. =)
