Episode 1 – The Last Autobot
Airdate: Wednesday 27th February 2013
Synopsis: A barren desert. There is a single figure in the
distance; as it moves closer to the screen, we see it is Optimus
Prime, battered and dirtied and wearing a ragged cloak. His
voice tells us that he is the last Autobot – his armies fell,
one-by-one, against the Decepticons, who now control this
planet. He failed; failed his race, his team, and himself. As he
continues on, a team of Decepticons zoom by in scout-jets: he
brings out his modified Ion blaster, taking out two of the jets,
and continues firing as the Decepticons leap from their jets to
attack. Extending his Energon axe too, the Autobot makes quick
work of his opponents, ruthlessly killing them. His voice-over
notes that he no longer sees the purpose of mercy, as it is
something that was never handed to the other Autobots. Later, at
night, Optimus approaches a Decepticon outpost. Drawing his Ion
blaster again, he heads inside, once again taking out the
Decepticons until he is attacked from behind by Stalker. The
demented Decepticon drives a device into Optimus’ back, but the
Prime uses his Energon axe to mutilate his assailant and pin him
to a wall. He demands to know what the outpost is based around,
and Stalker cheers that it is an instrument that is now stuck in
the Autobot’s back. Optimus asks for more information, but the
device activates and he blacks out. As he comes to, he finds
Ratchet standing over him, asking if he is OK. Shocked, Optimus
shoves Ratchet aside and draws his Energon axe, deeming the
medic to be an impostor… before realising that his axe is less
damaged than normal. Standing up, he walks to the nearest
window, and looks outside to see a number of Autobots present.
Entering the courtyard, Optimus watches his army train in
astonishment. Following, Ratchet informs the Prime that he still
needs to perform a check-up on his systems, as he blacked out
for no discernable reason. As Ironhide approaches, Optimus
insists that he is dreaming, and that the Autobots are not here.
Confused, Ratchet asks Optimus his last memory before blacking
out; the Prime states that he was raiding a Decepticon outpost,
and was attacked by Stalker, who implanted a device on his back.
Although Ironhide decries Optimus as delusional, Ratchet
contacts Wheeljack, asking him to head to the courtyard. An
explosion occurs in a nearby building, sending Wheeljack
hurtling over to the trio; dusting himself off, he asks Ratchet
what the problem is. Optimus recounts his story, and Wheeljack
explains that the device sounds like his temporal
astral-shifter, a device that displaces a being’s mind into a
version of themselves earlier or later in their timeline.
However, he has yet to construct the device… which would imply
that a future Optimus Prime was implanted with it. Ironhide
still has his doubts, but Optimus simply remarks that his old
friend’s stubbornness made him the last to fall. He walks off,
leaving the three Autobots bemused. Ratchet notes sourly that he
will have to report this to Prowl, and Ironhide offers to do so,
noting that he is the only bot who has shown the Autobot
lieutenant that he will not be pushed around.
Optimus is stood at the edge of the Autobot camp, looking out
at the land – while still somewhat arid, it has more plant life
and cooler weather. Bumblebee approaches Optimus, asking him
what is wrong; the Prime informs the scout that the mind
presently inhabiting this body is from the future, where all of
the Autobots have been eradicated. Confused, Bumblebee asks for
a second attempt at an explanation, and Optimus says that he is
a future Optimus in the present body, courtesy of one of
Wheeljack’s future inventions. The scout claims that it does not
matter, as long as he is still Optimus. The Prime retorts that
time – since the present – has changed him. He is not the same
bot anymore. Bumblebee remarks that Optimus’ characteristics are
something that can never die, and heads back into the camp. All
the while, Ironhide finishes informing Prowl on Optimus’ status.
The Autobot lieutenant is not impressed, noting that they need
the current Optimus with his intimate knowledge on the war
strategies that they are employing. The future Optimus is too
scarred – and from too far in the future – to remember or care
for the strategies. He orders Ironhide to have Wheeljack to
construct the temporal astral-shifter immediately, to restore
Optimus to normal. Meanwhile, a large platoon of Autobots
returns from battle, many injured; Jazz leads them to Optimus,
and he starts to update his leader on the battle as his troops
head into the camp. Optimus notes that Jazz’s words are wasted
on him, before blacking out again.

Episode 1-Ooh, now this is DEEPLY interesting! It's great to see
pretty much the staple original Autobot cast, and this is a
really grim but cool start to what's sure to be a great story! I
found it interesting how you used Animated Jazz's voice actor
for Jazz rather than the original. Is this Stalker a
pre-existing one or an OC? Also, love Optimus's newly-found
merciless attitude and Bumblebee's idealism. Everyone is as they
should be, essentially, and I'm eager to find out the mystery of
all this.

Yup, that's the point of Catalyst - to ultimately show how the
Total Conflict has affected the multiverse by using the bots we
know most. Scatman Crothers, Jazz's first voice actor, is dead,
I believe. CBA to research his replacement, so yeah, I went with
Hermes from Futurama. :P Also, went with Adam Savage from
MythBusters for Wheeljack, which I think is a perfect fit. XD
Optimus' "new-found merciless attitude" isn't new-found. It's
from watching the rest of his army die. Remember, we're
following future-Optimus' mind as he jumps between forms. We
never see present-Optimus, who's the standard G1 Optimus. :3 Oh,
and Stalker is just like his LSotW self. :3

Episode 2 – Future Present, Present Past
Airdate: Wednesday 6th March 2013 (written on Thursday 21st
March 2013)
Synopsis: Optimus Prime comes to in his future body. He finds
himself chained up in a cold, dark chamber, with stone walls and
empty shackles. No one else is there. He half-activates his
Energon axe, using the thinness of his arm mid-way through the
transformation to slip out of one of his cuffs. He hacks off the
chain of the other cuff, even as he hears screams of agony
coming from nearby. Heading through the dark, he wonders aloud
if it was all just a dream. Investigating his back, he finds the
damage from the device being inserted into him, but no sign of
the device itself. Stalker appears, and informs Optimus that the
device has dug into his systems, and only extensive surgery will
be able to remove it. The Prime attempts to kill Stalker with
his axe, but the Decepticon reveals that he possesses a switch
that will forcibly activate the temporal astral-shifter, sending
Optimus’ mind back in time again. Lowering his weapon, Optimus
asks Stalker what he wants. The Decepticon snickers that he
wants to see the Autobot suffer, revisiting the allies he has
lost. He adds that he hopes that Optimus enjoys the trip, and
“keep(s) on rolling”. He activates the temporal astral-shifter,
and Optimus wakes up in the past again. Bumblebee is stood
beside him, and welcomes him back, asking if he has been to the
future again (“or whatever”). The Prime notes that he has, and
asks for some time alone; however, Bumblebee notes that Prowl
has ordered him to stay with Optimus in case of another
blackout. Ironhide enters the room, and asks Optimus if he is
ready for the conference with Megatron. Bumblebee explains that
this is the future Optimus again, which irritates Ironhide.
However, Optimus notes that he recalls the conference – after
all, in his own personal past, he never blacked-out to be
replaced by his future self’s mind. Leaving the room with
Bumblebee in-tow, the Prime states that he knows what to say.
Megatron is sat in his throne room, with Soundwave stood at his
right hand. A monitor turns on in front of him, with Optimus
visible, sat in a room with Ironhide, Prowl and Bumblebee around
him. As the Decepticon leader starts to speak, Optimus cuts him
off, telling him that the war will not be solved by discussion,
and challenges Megatron to a duel. Amused, Megatron agrees,
ending the conference. Prowl is in uproar, shocked that Optimus
would disregard the terms they had drawn up – if he really
remembered how the conference went, it would have gone the same
way as planned. Ironhide, however, simply laughs, impressed with
the future Optimus’ bravado. Optimus heads off to prepare for
the duel, with Bumblebee following along, asking if he is sure
that he wishes to fight Megatron like this. The Prime explains
how the conference was supposed to be a discussion on calling a
stalemate – it would lead to a Decepticon ambush, of far greater
numbers than the Autobots had prepared for. In turn, this would
be the first step in the downfall of the Autobot forces. While
Megatron may still prepare an ambush for the duel, at least
there is a good chance of Optimus killing him and severing the
head of the Decepticon war effort. Bumblebee is still unsure if
Optimus’ plan is sound, but offers to accompany him to the
battlefield. The Prime orders him not to, before blacking out
again. Coming to in the dark chamber again, he finds a
Decepticon shackled up nearby. Heavily damaged, the Decepticon
explains that he was a subject of Stalker’s experiments, and
that Optimus needs to change the past, as with no Autobots
around, the Decepticons have turned on one another. Stalker
appears, and activates the temporal astral-shifter once again.
When the Autobot commander comes to, he finds himself sat in
front of a message written on the wall. As he reads it,
Bumblebee states that he had updated his time’s Optimus of
events, and this was the message he left for his future self.
The message says that he has faith in his future self, but that
he should not let bitterness cloud his judgement. Shaken,
Optimus declares that he is leaving. As he heads out, Wheeljack
rushes over, handing him an upgrade for his ion blaster, and
gives hope that he “keep on rolling”. Shocked and confused, the
leader snatches the upgraded and hurries off. Later, he arrives
at the battlefield, where Megatron is already waiting; the
Decepticon sneers, asking Optimus if he really believes he has a
chance of winning. Without the Prime even answering, Megatron
realises that there is something different about him. Optimus
ignores this, drawing his weapons and demanding that Megatron do
the same. Smirking now, Megatron refuses, stating that he had a
hunch that something was different about the Autobot commander
during the conference, and has prepared accordingly. Prowl
contacts Optimus, announcing that the camp has been ambushed and
swarmed by Decepticons. Megatron asks Optimus what he plans to
do now; the Autobot turns, shooting Megatron square in the
chest. Surprised, the tyrant yells at Optimus that he always
comes prepared – as if from nowhere, Laserbeak attacks the Prime
from behind, allowing Megatron the chance to knock him out. He
contacts base, asking for pick-up.

Episode 3 – Escape Plan
Airdate: Wednesday 13th March 2013 (written on Saturday 23rd
March 2013)
Synopsis: As Optimus Prime comes to, he finds Stalker stood over
him, securing his restraints. The Autobot demands to know where
he is – Stalker is confused, and when Optimus explains that
Megatron had knocked him out, the crazed scientist explains that
Optimus’ mind shifts even if the body he is in is actually
knocked into unconsciousness. The Prime will eventually suffer
from mental fatigue, as he will never get the chance to rest. He
activates the temporal astral-shifter, and Optimus awakens in
the exact same place. Confused, he is approached by Shockwave,
who informs the Autobot that he is now a prisoner of the United
Decepticon Forces. Optimus asks where he is, and Shockwave
remarks that it is Decepticon outpost delta-five – which the
Prime realises is the same location as the outpost he is being
held captive in the future timeline. Shockwave goes to leave,
but Optimus asks what has happened to his Autobots; the
Decepticon remarks that many of them have been killed, others
scattered, and the camp is in ruins. Left alone, Optimus tries
to figure a way out of his restraints – his built-in weaponry
has been disabled, leaving him unable to burst them off. He
powers down, waking up in the future to try and find a way to
break out there, and finds himself already unrestrained. Written
on the ceiling is a message – “Stalker is preoccupied. Temporary
switch is on desk, only gives three jumps. Get out in both
times”. The Prime takes the temporary switch, and starts looking
for a way to break out in the past. Looking up again, he
realises that there is a space in the message… the location of a
torture instrument in the past. It is motion-activated,
appearing when the captive bot tries to escape. Planning his
escape now, he heads out to map out the outpost.
Heading through corridors, Optimus finds the outpost almost
entirely empty. Eventually, he reaches a door with a pass-code;
taking out the temporary switch, he hits it, waking up in his
past self’s body, with the temporary switch materialising in his
hand. He quickly starts to writhe about, activating the torture
instrument – it moves down towards his chest, but he opens the
chest doors, redirecting the instrument to strike one of his
restraints. Destroying the instrument and breaking himself free,
an alarm is set off. The Autobot commander quickly heads out,
reactivating his in-built weaponry and shooting Decepticons that
appear. Once he has dealt with the Decepticon troops, he
stealthily heads to the locked door; watching from nearby, he
watches a Decepticon input the code, before shooting him out and
heading through the door. Beyond it is a long corridor, with no
other doors except for at the other end. He heads through,
opening the door at the other end gently to see a large number
of Decepticons present. Unable to see much else, he shuts the
door again, and hits the switch. In the future, he puts the code
in, heading down the corridor and opening the door on the other
side. Investigating the large chamber, he finds a parallel door
at the other end; heading through it, he finds himself in the
outpost’s courtyard. Content, he heads out into the desert,
trekking for a short while until he is far enough away from the
outpost. He presses the switch, awakening in the corridor again,
and activates his ion blaster and Energon axe before charging
through the door.
As the Decepticons present start firing at Optimus, he takes
them out, struggling towards the opposing door. Gradually, the
Autobot commander makes his way to the door, and heads through,
to find Ironhide and Jazz taking out Decepticons in the
courtyard. Optimus joins them, and Jazz explains that the
Autobots were scattered, with he and Ironhide reasoning that
Optimus had been captured when they could not contact him. The
three soon realise that they cannot hope to defeat all of the
Decepticons alone, and Optimus begrudgingly orders them into
retreat. A short while later, as they head through the desert,
Ironhide asks Optimus what supposedly happens next. The Prime
explains that his memories seem to betray him – although the
Decepticons did scatter the Autobots and destroy the camp, they
were separate incidents, with the Autobots being scattered in
the battle that Optimus avoided, and the base being destroyed
shortly after. As far as he is aware, the Autobots will now be
hunted down, but soon, the remaining bots will meet up again.
Jazz ponders aloud if Optimus’ memories are being affected by
the shifting back and forth. Prowl contacts Ironhide, asking for
a status report, and the older bot updates him on them having
retrieved Optimus. The first lieutenant gives them the location
of the rendezvous point, and the three Autobots start to head
off in that direction.

2-Things are definitely starting to get interesting. Lol,
Stalker seems to retain the same penchant for violence and
hatred that he always has. Decepticons turning on each other
with no Autobots present seems very Decepticon-like, and makes
plenty of sense. Stalker is being very risky giving Optimus a
chance to change the past though, though then again, the dude is
a psycho. Oh Optimus, you really should never underestimate
Megatron under any circumstances. Should've known he'd pull of
something dirty during the duel. Poor Optimus. xD
3-Funny parallel that he's imprisoned in the same place in both
present and past. Genius idea with the jump thing; scouting the
outpost in the present and using that knowledge in the past to
get out. Really clever use of "time travel" of a sort, even if
it's with minds. Optimus, being badass and taking names, cool to
see that Jazz and Ironhide are a-okay. Things are certainly
getting interesting, and the timeline is starting to get messed
up.

2 - Yup, Stalker is as he is. :P And, well, it's more just
Stalker experimenting on Cons cos there's no Bots, not a general
dog-eat-dog. XD As for giving Optimus the chance to change the
past... well, besides the fact that the omniverse operates on
many-worlds theory, so changing the past would just make a new
timeline... let's just say I've figured out more of the plot
now. ;) And hahaha, true. XD
3 - Thanks, came up with it on the spot. :3 Thought it'd be an
awesome idea to use, even if there was only so much I could do
with it since it's just wandering around. XD We're already
pushing towards the finale here, which is good, since it's just
a five-part thing.

Episode 4 – Fly
Airdate: Wednesday 20th March 2013 (written on Monday 25th March
2013)
Synopsis: A fleet of Seekers are passing over the desert. Their
leader, Thundercracker, orders them to keep on while he
investigates another path; jetting off, he quickly locates
Optimus Prime, Ironhide and Jazz, and evades their fire,
transforming and landing down beside them. As the three draw
their weapons, Thundercracker insists that he means no harm – he
simply wishes to inform them that the Decepticons are planning
to set up a shield network around the planet, preventing escape
for those without a pass-code, and then destroy the planet with
the Autobots trapped on it. Ironhide notes that this will not
come to pass, but Optimus is no longer sure if the timeline is
stable. Thundercracker promises to find out the pass-code for
them, and leaves, flying back to the other Seekers. Optimus
silently leads his Autobots on, with the two following. Later,
they reach the area where the Autobots have gathered; Prowl
greets them, and Ratchet offers to give them a medical check-up,
but Optimus declines, stating that he is fine, and heads off to
check on the rest of his faction. He finds Wheeljack working on
a flight-pack, which he explains will give the Prime aerial
superiority in combat with the Decepticons. Optimus asks
Wheeljack if he has made any progress on his temporal
astral-shifter, before blacking out. In the future, he finds
himself half-buried in the sand; getting up, he sees the outpost
on fire, and decides to continue on, only for Stalker to
confront him, heavily damaged. He asks Optimus what has happened
most recently in his past, and the Autobot recaps the dispersing
and regrouping of his faction. Stalker tells Optimus to head
into the ruins of the outpost in the morning, before dying from
his injuries. Optimus sits down on the sand, watching the
outpost burn. Suddenly, a voice declares ‘system shut-down
complete’ – Stalker’s body. Confused, Optimus hacks open the
Decepticon’s shell to find no spark chamber, simply a generator.
Accidentally hitting a trigger, he blacks out again.
Waking in his past form, Optimus is informed by Bumblebee that
his earlier self finally came to – he had been unconscious since
his capture by the Decepticons, which Optimus realises is why
his escape went so smoothly (his earlier self wasn’t conscious
to move about in the past form). Bumblebee goes on to explain
that the earlier Optimus has been updated on recent events, and
is entrusting his future self with control over the Autobots
whenever he is in possession of the body. Optimus thanks
Bumblebee, and heads off to gather his forces. A few minutes
later, the remaining Autobots are gathered around Optimus, as he
explains the information given to him by Thundercracker. While
he notes that he cannot fully trust this information, it should
never the less be acted upon. He orders Bumblebee and Jazz to
lead a scout team into the Decepticon outpost to investigate,
while the rest of the Autobots prepare for a confrontation with
the Decepticons. He adds that the few Autobot fliers will
accompany him in keeping watch over the planet’s atmosphere, in
case the Decepticons are already attempting to set up a network…
but, of course, to be weary of it being a trap. The Prime
promises his soldiers that they can get through the war. The
Autobots start to mill off, as Bumblebee and Jazz gather their
team. Ironhide states that he is proud of Optimus – time may
have made him more ruthless, but no less of a leader. Optimus
thanks his old friend, and heads off to don his flight-pack.
Later, Optimus is high above the planet’s surface, keeping an
eye on activity. He reports to Prowl that there is still no sign
of Decepticon activity, and Prowl notes that the same is true on
the surface. Jazz then contacts the Prime – the outpost has been
completely abandoned, and all the data has been wiped. Optimus
curses the Decepticons, even as Thundercracker approaches him.
The Seeker explains that Megatron has kept his full plan secret,
and while the details he gave were true, they are not the full
plan. Optimus asks why Thundercracker would give this
information, and the Decepticon admits that he is not entirely
comfortable with the Decepticons’ ways – even as he is shot from
behind, his body plummeting to the surface. Starscream
approaches Optimus in jet mode, firing at him and damaging the
flight-pack; the Prime returns fire on the Seeker, and an aerial
dogfight begins with Starscream leading Optimus closer and
closer to the surface. Eventually, Optimus is close enough that
Megatron, on the surface in his tank mode, can fire on him,
exploding the flight-pack and sending Optimus careening to the
surface. As he recovers, Megatron approaches him in robot mode,
with Starscream stood nearby. He informs the Prime that, once
again, the Autobots are under attack – and with the Seekers
taking out the aerial Autobots, a shield network can be set up
all the while. Optimus challenges Megatron to a final duel,
noting that there shall be no ‘one shall stand, one shall fall’
– he no longer cares if he perishes in the fight too. The two
start their battle as Starscream watches on.

Episode 5 – At Dawn
Airdate: Wednesday 27th March 2013
Synopsis: Optimus Prime and Megatron are locked in ruthless
combat, each one serving serious damage to the other. All the
while, the Decepticon leaders taunts his enemy with the fact
that his entire faction will be destroyed – Optimus remarks that
he has already experienced that loss, and will do whatever it
takes to undo it. Starscream watches on, opportunistically, even
as Megatron states that there is no changing the past without
creating a new timeline; the Prime is being delusional. With
this, a realisation dawns on Optimus, and he transforms, ramming
into Megatron before shifting back to robot mode and removing
the tyrant’s arms with his Energon axe. Megatron sneers at his
archenemy to finish him, but Optimus states that he is not the
one to end the Decepticon’s life… he steps aside, transforming
and heading off as Starscream shoots the helpless Megatron in
the head. He contacts all of the Decepticons, stating that he is
now their leader, although Shockwave states this to be
illogical. All the while, Optimus races back to the Autobots,
who are indeed being overwhelmed by the Decepticons. The Prime
joins in the fight alongside Ironhide, and the two remark how
good it feels to be fighting side-by-side together amidst
terrifying odds. As they take out Decepticons, Optimus explains
that he understands why events are happening differently to his
memories: his memories are false. These events always happened
as they are happening. He is unsure why he has false memories,
but it is the only explanation that makes sense. Ironhide
suggests asking Wheeljack when the fighting dies down, but
Optimus points out that they may not live to talk, and heads off
to find the inventor, fighting all the while. Concerned for his
friend, Ironhide nevertheless continues fighting too, having one
of his arms blown off by a Decepticon whose skull he proceeds to
crush.
Numerous Decepticons are trashing Wheeljack’s inventions;
angered, the Autobot uses various weapons of his own design to
take out the Decepticons. Other Autobots, including Bluestreak,
Hound and Trailcutter, are nearby, also using some of
Wheeljack’s weaponry, as Optimus heads through, approaching
Wheeljack, and asks him if it is possible that his memories are
false. Wheeljack remarks that he has plans for a device with
similar capabilities, and adds that he has also made progress on
the temporal astral-shifter design. At this moment, the Autobot
commander fully makes the connections – he apologises to
Wheeljack, stating that he has to leave and will allow the
Optimus of this time to finish the fight. He explains that the
Autobots who survive this fight must make a contingency plan for
the future, but he trusts that he and the other trusted Autobots
will figure it out. Saying farewell, he overloads the temporal
astral-shifter, and blacks out for the last time. Waking up on
the dunes in the future, he sees the burnt-out ruins of the
Decepticon ruins up ahead. Transforming, he drives off towards
it, leaving Stalker’s body in the desert. Exploring the ruins,
he finds a large seal on the ground, emblazoned with an Autobot
insignia. After taking a moment to figure out how to unlock it,
he does so, opening it and entering an underground chamber… in
which Prowl, Ironhide, Bumblebee, Ratchet, Jazz, Wheeljack and
more are stationed. They greet their commander.
As Ratchet works on repairing Optimus, Prowl and Wheeljack
explain what happened after the Prime’s last “visit” to the
past. The Autobots narrowly won their battle against the
Decepticons – aided by Starscream calling a retreat at the last
moment – although their numbers were severely lowered. Wheeljack
continued to work on the temporal astral-shifter, as well as
various other technologies, while the war effort continued. The
Decepticons started to tear themselves apart, and a strike on
the outpost that Optimus was captured in left them at a
disadvantage and without a leader. At this point, the Autobots
constructed a new base of operations beneath the outpost, before
implanting Optimus with false memories of the past few months
and hiding away in the base, making the Prime believe himself to
be the only Autobot remaining. This served two purposes – to
maintain the timeline, and to allow the other Autobots to work
underground, making small but steady progress in defeating the
Decepticons. All of the Decepticons that Optimus encountered
recently in the outpost were “actors” – puppet bodies created by
Wheeljack to continue the illusion of the Autobots being
eradicated until Optimus was at the right point in his personal
timeline to discover the truth. Stalker was, of course, “played”
by Wheeljack, and the temporal astral-shifter was always his
invention. Optimus thanks his team for their continued efforts,
and notes that he is very glad to know that his allies – his
friends – are still alive. Prowl states that he will update
Optimus fully on their efforts shortly, before heading off to
his work station. Elsewhere in the multiverse, Nova Supreme
receives Prowl’s report, and remarks that the Total Conflict has
ruined countless worlds… but soon, the stalemate will be over,
and the war will be won.
