Issue #8 – Higher Places
Released: Tuesday 26th February 2013
Synopsis: A distant planet. A Dilong bot is rushing through the
long grass. Reaching a clear patch, he finds a fembot – Sonar –
holding a strange device.
The Dilong transforms, revealing himself to be F******f***e. He
asks Sonar if she is the source of the signal, but the claims to
not be. She waves the device in her hand, explaining that she is
trying to track the source, to no avail. She introduces herself,
and he returns the favour.
As F******f***e asks Sonar if she knows what she’s looking for,
a shadow passes overhead. Sonar draws her weapons as the shape –
a ship – lands down nearby. Out steps Wing Saber, who coolly
informs Sonar that his ship has three dozen hidden weapon
systems primed to fire if she does.
The loner fembot lowers her weapons, as Wing Saber introduces
himself, and explains that he has detected them tracking the
signal. He says that the signal is coming from a group of
Maximals on Taraka, and he can take F******f***e and Sonar
there. While the young mech eagerly agrees, Sonar is less than
certain.
Wing Saber insists that he is the quickest route to Taraka, and
further, offers Sonar that if the signal turns out to be a trap,
he will protect her. Sonar notes that she does not need
protecting as she boards Wing Saber’s ship. The ship takes off.
Onboard, F******f***e is fascinated by the equipment, amusing
Wing Saber, as Sonar sits back. She asks Wing Saber his
business, and he explains that he is a member of the Maximal
secret police. He asks her the same question, and she notes that
she is “between jobs”. F******f***e deadpans that he wishes he
were in such a position.
A sensor goes off, and Wing Saber notes that another bot has
received the signal. F******f***e asks why he and Sonar are the
only Maximals that Wing Saber has picked up so far, and the
officer notes that the signal from Taraka is very low-key. Only
advanced technology like Sonar’s device can pick it up.
A short while later. The ship has landed down outside a Maximal
bar. Inside, the three try to locate the signal-tracking device
(F******f***e is somewhat uneasy with being in a seedy
location). The source is Freeline, holding a device in her hand.
Wing Saber asks her if she constructed it, to which Freeline
shrugs and states “I guess”.
Sonar remarks that the heroic cavalry they are forming is only
four bots; Wing Saber turns to the rest of the bar, and asks if
any of the bots present wish to join a force for a dangerous
mission. Only one bot steps forward – Grizzle. As the five
leave, Fly-By appears from another room; Freeline takes her date
by the arm, telling him that he has just been signed on for
adventure (leaving him utterly confused).
The Maximals head outside again, only to find a fembot
attempting to steal parts from the ship. Wing Saber attacks her,
pinning her to his ship’s hull. She insists that she can take
him out, but he threatens to ram her head into the primary
cannon of the ship. Conceding, the fembot admits that she just
needs parts to pay off a debt.
She introduces herself as Streetwise. F******f***e immediately
suggests that she join the team, reminding Wing Saber of his
comment to Sonar earlier about offering her protection. Wing
Saber is unsure, not wanting to trust a thief, but F******f***e
insists. The pilot gives in, dropping Streetwise to her feet as
the team start to board the ship.
Streetwise thanks F******f***e, but he notes that it was
nothing, and suggests they board. As they do so, Fly-By asks
F******f***e what is going on, to which the young bot simply
states that it is a long story. As the newly-formed team blast
off in the ship, another ship lands down, with Optimus Primeval,
Medicinowl, Longarm and Jolt onboard.
As the ship continues on, Wing Saber explains the basics of
their mission – recently, Cybertron was razed, with an unknown
Predacon unleashing the Beast before stripping the devil of his
powers and taking them for himself. A team of Maximals were
imprisoned in the Pit, but they recently sent a signal from the
planet Taraka, indicating that they have escaped.
The signal is, in effect, a call to arms. The Maximals need
assistance, back-up – assumedly, they plan on fighting back
against the Predacon. Fly-By gives Freeline a nudge, waking her
up, and she suggests constructing a device of some sort in her
sleepy stupor. Wing Saber concurs.
Grizzle notes that the team will be needing weapons, and he can
work on locating some depending on the team’s need. Streetwise
chimes in that she also knows sources for weaponry, although
Sonar points out that these sources are obviously not
trustworthy.
As the group continue talking, Wing Saber notices a new signal
being detected. He quickly disables the alert, and investigates
it discretely – until he becomes shocked at what the signal is.
He alerts the others that Unicron is nearby… which is, of
course, impossible, as he was destroyed not long ago. Grizzle
also points out that there is no Unicronian presence outside…
And moments later, the hulking mass of Unicron’s planet form
becomes visible nearby (Fly-By snarks that Grizzle had to say it
and tempt fate). Wing Saber runs a scan and notes that it is
nothing but a hollow shell… although Streetwise points out that
it is registering life-forms onboard.
A tractor beam blasts out from Unicron’s shell, dragging Wing
Saber’s ship into it. Freeline notes that she once invented a
device that negates tractor beams, although Fly-By points out
how useless this knowledge is at present. The ship is dragged
through desecrated chambers before finally being placed down on
an outcrop.
The Maximals realise just how cavernous the interior of Unicron
is – Wing Saber brings up a scan as the others stare out of the
bridge’s windows, in awe at the scale.
The scan suddenly brings up a single life-signal inside. Wing
Saber wonders if the being activated the tractor beam, and
suggests that the team head out to locate the source of the
signal. Although Sonar, Fly-By and Streetwise are unsure, the
others agree, and Wing Saber has the team head out.
They step out into Unicron’s dead innards, wondering what they
will encounter. Grizzle hands out weapons; although Wing Saber
points out that there was only one life-signal, Grizzle insists
that it is better to be safe than sorry. They head off in the
direction of the signal.
Deep inside Unicron, in a prison chamber, is Tailturn. She
cries out for help, to no avail. Looking to the ceiling, she
begs for someone to come to her rescue… before it is too late.
So… what’s changed?

Transformers: Ultimatum – The Keys of Audion, in which he was
located on the planet upon which the Maximals regrouped. Joining
them in the battle, he went on to become a major team-member in
Transformers: Download, becoming leader of the remaining team in
Transformers: Nightmare and onwards, and becoming a Prime twice
– first in Parallel Worlds: Transformers season 1, and after
giving the Matrix of Leadership back to a revived Optimus Prime
in the prelude of Transformers: Infinity, he reclaimed it in the
Darkest Hour event. He changed his name to Emberscales Prime
during the Total Conflict, as his role as the One True Prime
compromised his original identity.

with connections to the Xylar and his team. She was one of
several Maximals shunted into another universe, where the team
was lead by F******f***e. She started to develop feelings for
him, but they remained unreciprocated as he was with Wingpulse
at the time. She sacrificed herself in Transformers: Convergence
to reveal the location of Tailturn, but was restored to life by
the rewinding of time in Transformers: Genesis. After assisting
the Maximals in Genesis/Apocalypse and Transformers: Labyrinth,
she went off on her own until the events of Empire:
Transformers, upon which she rejoined the Maximals and started a
relationship with F******f***e Prime. This ended 20 years later
after she and Swift developed feelings for one another, and
sacrificed themselves to stabilise the Infinity Chamber on
Fothai in the Annihilation event. Revived again after the
Darkest Hour, Sonar learnt of the Triangle legend during the
Total Conflict whilst serving in the Tyran cluster (the
live-action trilogy group of universes), and joined the Wreckers
in order to prevent Impale from completing the Triangle. After
this, she rejoined the Maximals, becoming one of the last eight
to remain alive to permanently defeat Megatron and reboot the
universe.

Reconfiguration Act I, where he was guarding Decepticon
war-prisoner Drown-Out on Earth. He joined Cynder and Gigabyte,
giving them transport back to Trayka, and became a member of the
Maximal team through Reconfiguration and Transformers: Infinity.
As a member of the Wreckers in Transformers: Wreckers, he was
killed by a shot through the chest from Decepticon Pound.

Aether, a group of Maximals introduced (minus their deceased
leader, Optimus Primeval) in Transformers: Infinity. Of the six
(Medicinowl, Longarm and Jolt being the others), only this trio
survived post-restoration in the Total Conflict, to appear in
Transformers: Synergy. While Grizzle quickly joined the
Wreckers, and survived serious damage before dying near the end
of their mission, Fly-By and Freeline died together from heavy
injuries on a mission to Arkon. This issue implies that Team
Aether formed during the early days of Transformers: Legacy,
off-screen, with Fly-By, Freeline and Grizzle being hired in the
same bar as in this issue.

as a former petty-criminal and an agent of Megatron. Wily and
mischievous, Streetwise remained one of Megatron’s most trusted
agents through to Transformers: Labyrinth and Til All Are One,
during which she met Ratbat and became his assistance in keeping
charge of the Looking Glass, the void-based viewing station for
all universes. During Exodus: Transformers, Waspinator ended up
at the Looking Glass, and Streetwise reluctantly joined him,
becoming a member of the Maximals and the newly-formed Elite
Guard. Some twenty years later, in Transformers: Reconfiguration
Act I, she had become more relaxed and mellow, albeit still
feisty and stealthy. Her developing feelings for Waspinator
ultimately spelt her doom, as his ill-fated romantic
entanglements saw the two blasted across universes when she
became bonded to the overloading Puzzle and he attempted to
rescue her. While his coloured Lokon wavelength resulted in his
ability to return to the Legacies universe, Streetwise was
permanently bonded to her new universe, although she managed to
make contact with the Legacies universe twice in Transformers:
Infinity, and again in Transformers: Synergy, giving Waspinator
and his allies valuable information.

Transformers: Legacy film along with the rest of her colony,
Tailturn was promised salvation by Waspinator. He made good on
that promise not too long after in Transformers: Legacy season
7, after which she joined the Maximals. A long-standing member,
albeit not particularly noteworthy, she stepped up to the plate
in Transformers: Omniverse, focusing the energies of four
different bots from each faction. The event sent her across
universes; she landed on Valyssia, awakening to find a Fibonacci
spiral on her palm, allowing her to control properties. She
eventually ascended to the Chandelier above the omniverse, where
she spent billions of years compiling data on every universe
before converting herself into the singularity that exploded
into the big bang of the First Universe. She managed to briefly
interact with the universe again in Parallel Worlds:
Transformers season 1, via the avatar crystal, and later in
Empire: Transformers, after Rainburst took Tailturn’s place as
the omniverse (using the avatar crystal to interact with
reality), Tailturn was briefly returned to corporeal form.
Eventually, Tailturn merged herself with Rainburst, becoming the
omniverse once more. The two were reborn as Daybreak and
Nightfall; the former joined the Maximals in Transformers:
Reconfiguration Act II, while the latter joined the Predacons in
the same Act, and was later a Revon in Transformers: Infinity
before finally joining the Maximals at the end of the Darkest
Hour event. The two seemed to be kindling a relationship during
the Total Conflict, but they were both captured by the Predacons
in Transformers: Synergy, and used to give power to the Arcrise
Machine.
