So, 428 brings us to the conclusion of the Doujinshi Arc (or at
least the climactic point for Ruka's development).
The hand isn't Hayate, but her dad, who's with her mum. They
explain that they had a major accident in Hokkaido (right by
those vending machines that Nagi met Kurosu at, it seems), but
Kurosu saved them, and went to Ise for them when they heard that
Ruka was on a break from her idol work due to bad health. They
had no idea how to apologise until Hayate (along with Hina and
Kurosu, of course) came to them and said that they just need to
apologise and try to start over. Apparently, they've found a way
to cover the debt, so Ruka is no longer chained by that, but she
then asks them to read her doujin. It still follows the
ressurected novelist, but now, as she finds other things in life
besides writing, she starts to disappear. She realises that fate
has preordained her to write... but actually, she wants to write
anyway, because it's what she loves doing. Naturally, this
mirrors Ruka and her idol work. She says that she will continue
to be an idol, but may never be able to forgive her parents...
but thanks them for giving her music.
10 Word Summary!
'Ruka's parents return and apologise, and Ruka choses her path.'
So, we're pretty much at the very end of this arc. I suspect
another chapter or two. Hopefully we'll still get to see Ruka
now and then - it'll be weird for her to fade out of the story
completely. :|

429 is pretty simple. Nagi and Ruka rest, and Ruka insists that
the only reason she lost is because she was wearing a scary mask
and so people gravitated towards Nagi. They agree to have
another competition, but Ruka suggests it be in 10 years, once
her idol career has wound down and she can focus on manga. Nagi
swears to work as hard as over the last few days, and become the
greatest mangaka. Chiharu approaches, handing them drinks, and
promises to help then, too. Apparently, Kayura and the others
are off looking for a good fireworks spot.
Meanwhile, Hayate and Kurosu discuss Ruka's parents, as well as
Hayate's family - he insists that his parents wouldn't believe
that they've done anything wrong, but adds that he still wants
to find his brother. When he describes Ikusa to Kurosu, she
seems to know who he is. DUN... DUN...
DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN! [/H&S] :P
10 Word Summary!
'Nagi and Ruka plan ahead, and Kurosu knows about Ikusa.'
So, Ikusa to be included in the inevitable King's
Jewel/Athena/Yozora arc? HEY WAIT. I just remember. For all this
talk of Ruka going, she's still needed for Yozora's plan! :D

Chapter 430...
Nagi, Hina, Ayumu and Chiharu (I can only spy the top of
Kayura's head in one panel... I think...) are heading through
the festival, and Hina asks where they'll be watching the
fireworks. Ayumu points out an apartment building... which, it
becomes apparent, is owned by Izumi's dad - she shows up with
Miki and Risa, stating that the party preparations are complete.
As they chill in the apartment room, it's said that Hayate and
Ruka are seeing her parents off with Kurosu; Ayumu goes to call
them and inform them where to come, but Nagi suggests she
doesn't do anything insensitive.
All the while, Hayate and Ruka discuss her parents and her new
freedom from debt. She affords to buy him something as she has
20,000 yen from her doujin sales (which oddly seems like she
sold all 100 copies...). Hayate, it turns out, wants to buy a
lot of food, as he's always wanted to pig out at a festival (and
he never has more than 5% body fat XD). He suggests she have fun
too, as she's never had the chance. They rush around, enjoying
themselves, and Ruka comments that everything is so cheap,
really; all the things she'd longed for amount to very little
after all. Then she puts her hand on Hayate's.
Stepping out of the harem, are we, Ruka?
10 Word Summary!
'Hayate and Ruka have fun at the festival, endings nigh.'

BONUS POST! I just learnt something!
When I was re-reading the manga last year, I jotted this down:
Hm, this read-through of the HnG manga has thrown some
interesting little things my way (did you know that the Black
Camellia is mentioned in the End of the World arc? :P ), but
this is very prophetic considering how things are right now and
how they may be headed...
Chiharu: Travelling abroad with everybody, huh... It would be
surely fun, wouldn't it... travelling with everybody, doing
things like that... well... it's something that I'll have
nothing to do with in my entire life...
Narration: That's what she was thinking, but several months
later, a great event with a lot of deep meanings and deeply
related to her will take place... both Chiharu and Nagi still
haven't recognised that though.
(in chapter 218)
I figure it can't be the season 3 events (which are 5 months
after Greece Arc), if only because it's not 'deeply related' to
Chiharu. Still, seems like stuff has been plotted WAY in
advance, including Chiharu joining the main cast. :3
The bit with the narration is shown over an image of three
coffee cans...
The ones that Nagi, Ruka and Chiharu drink in chapter 429.
:o
Now, I'm amazed and disappointed at the same time. It's AMAZING
how this has worked out with that foreshadowing, but at the same
time, I'm a bit disappointed that it turned out to only be this,
especially as Chiharu isn't particularly 'deeply related' to it
(she's friends with Nagi and Ruka, but she didn't have any
personal stakes in this... in fact, the impression the quote
gave is that the deeply related incident would be abroad...
also, is August 'several months' after May? :P ) Still... WOW.
:D

Chapter 431... D:
Ruka tells Hayate... that she wants ice-cream. :P Specifically
Haagen-Dazs. They nom some Haagen-Dazs, and Ruka comments that
it's on her bucket list (Hayate notes that it was rather
premature, and tells her she has another 41 years to live XD).
He tries to look at her bucket list, but she says she'd rather
he see her breasts... then jokingly offers, flustering him. She
teases him, before starting to say that she'd throw everything
away to be with him. The fireworks start. The two note that they
wish they'd go on forever, and Ruka asks Hayate to keep watching
as she starts writing a note. She tells him that he's unlucky -
if she'd won against Nagi, he'd get to marry an idol. She slips
the note in his pocket. As the fireworks continue, Hayate is
along; he checks the note, and it reads 'goodbye'. Turning it
over, the other side states that she hopes he regrets not
marrying her for the rest of his life, with a cheeky chibi Ruka.
Hayate says he already regrets it.
10 Word Summary!
'Hayate and Ruka have cute fun and then part ways.'

432 starts with the girls watching the fireworks, though Nagi
doesn't join them as she's rather worn out. Hayate, meanwhile,
ponders the possible future with Ruka that will now never
happen... and realises that he's amidst TONNES of couples. :P
One couple asks him to take their photo, with their hijinks and
lovey-dovey nature annoying him greatly. Returning home, and
finally seeing Ayumu's text, he ponders stuff, only to be
greeted by... Life Ender-chan. :P
Nagi. With a mask. XD
She tries to cheer Hayate up, but hadn't really planned it out;
she just does one seemingly poor impression. XD She then hands
over a doodle of Hayate, saying it's the first signed work by
Nagi Sanzenin, and that it may not be much now, but in ten years
it will be priceless. Hayate notes to himself that there are
many types of happiness, and congratulates Nagi on her hard
work. She suggests... beach [s]episode[/s] chapter! :P
10 Word Summary!
'Hayate regrets his fate, but finds comfort in Nagi's Naginess.'

Chapter 433! Boy, what a way to start a new arc!
We open with... well, I'll let my initial response tell the
story...
Me: Yozora! YAAAAY!
She notes to her mysterious benefactor that Ruka is no longer a
viable candidate (D:) and that things concluded quickly.
However, she says that they still have time.
The previous night is discussed, Ruka returns to Atsumari and
her work, and then we get August 14th. Nagi notes that she's
still intending on moving back into the mansion; Hina and Ayumu
ask if that means the apartments will be demolished, which
leaves Chiharu and Kayura distraught - Kayura has bought a whole
bunch of doujinshi, so can't afford to move out, and Chiharu
points out that her house burnt down and Nagi will make her
homeless if she destroys the apartments. XD Hina and Ayumu also
ask about the butler service leaving with Nagi, but Hayate says
it's covered - Klaus will serve the apartments. XD
Alice appears, noting that Nagi needs a King's jewel to move
back into the mansion. Hayate explains to Hina and Ayumu that
they are the star jewels of King Midas, and represent the
Sanzenin inheritance. He adds that Mikado had told him that he
should know where one is, and Nagi and Maria shrug it off as
senility. :P Nagi adds, however, that Mikado should want the
inheritance to go to her (also that his great wealth could
destroy him), as there is one person who he does NOT want the
inheritance to go to...
And elsewhere, Yozora slips into maid clothes, and explains to
her benefactor that Nagi is still the desirable inheritor and
must find a King's jewel. The mysterious person says that Mikado
must hate her, and Yozora corrects that everyone is afraid of
her. The figure is...
[quote author=Ashes link=topic=13.msg155#msg155
date=1352677742]Nagi finds him, and they discuss first the
'sh*tty cabin' (Hayate scolds her language XD), then Mikado and
how he's given the inheritance to Hisui Hatsushiba, the older
sister of Jenny.
HISUI HATSUSHIBA. (erm, that quote is supposed to say that the
inheritance will currently go to Hisui if Nagi doesn't get a
jewel... I have that chapter up too for clarity... ^_^; )
She tells Yozora that, in that case, they shall go speak to
Mikado.

'Yozora! Nagi plans for the mansion, Hayate is funny. Hisui!'

Chapter 434. I thought Mangareader had put up some extra thing
from the cover page instead of the title, since it was about the
see-through playing cards available with the limited edition
vol.39.
Turns out, that IS the chapter name. And as the pre-title text
says, it's blatant advertising. :P
Miki says she's developed a revolutionary game - the see-through
playing cards. Izumi shrugs it off as stupid (Risa DOES get it,
and she and Miki call Izumi a moron as they discuss the game
XD), but when she and Risa play a game of poker, she quickly
realises that the remaining opaque cards in Risa's hand could be
anything, and makes the wrong move. Miki explains that the new
cards add strategy to a game of poker.
Hina then appears, saying that it looks fun. However, Miki
insists that if they play a game, there has to be a bet - and
proposes that Hina strips if she loses. Naturally Hina has no
interest in that, but Miki wonderfully pushes Hina's buttons
until she agrees. Miki states that three losses equal a total
strip, and adds that, if SHE loses, Izumi will strip. Risa
informs Izumi that 'either one will make the fans happy'. :P
Hina wins round 1 with utter ease. :P Miki has Izumi take her
panties off first. XD
Hina wins round 2, basing her logic on what cards have already
been played (I must state here, I have no idea how to play poker
XD). Izumi takes off more clothing. XD
Miki has a full house in round 3. Hina gets a royal flush. :P
Miki insists that Hina's cheating, while nekkid Izumi asks if
she can dress again and Miki challenges a willing Hina to
another game. XD

Chapter 435, and we flashback ten years! Hey, just realised,
that makes it 24th December 1994. :P
Athena explains to Mikado that the pathway to the Royal Garden
is opened when someone with a King's Jewel ends up in despair.
Mikado doesn't get it at first, but once he does, his examples
are awfully specific to the previous arc. :P
He heads off, in Santa costume, to find someone despairing
(reasoning that, at Christmas eve, people in despair are at
their height of sadness). First, he finds Ashibashi (I think),
and trashes his manuscript, calling it rubbish... only for
Ashibashi to thank Mikado for opening his eyes and head off to
do it right. XD He then sees KID HINAGIKU KAWAII! X3 He thinks
she, too, is despairing, but Yukiji kicks him down, and Mikado
thinks from their discussion that they're a happy family (oh how
wrong... Yukiji seems desperate for money even then, btw :P).
He stops to get a drink, and hits a snow-covered tree, only for
the snow to fall on top of Hayate. Trying to throw his can in
the bin, it manages to ricochet and hit a recovering Hayate in
the head, which makes Mikado realise that he's the perfect
candidate.
Now, I can't quite remember the timeline of events, but I'm sure
- or in fact, it's a pre-requisite - that Hayate had a King's
Jewel to get into the Royal Garden in the 'End of the World'
arc... which means this is set earlier, and yet Athena's not yet
in there, so how long was she even trapped there for before
Hayate appeared?
10 Word Summary!
'Mikado tries to find a suitable candidate. Kid Hina kawaii!'

Chapter 436, continuing the flashback with Mikado witnessing
Hayate's misfortune and him collecting empty bottles. It turns
out he's earning money by collecting them, though he's
underpaid. When he meets up with his dad, the dad takes the
money and tells Hayate to keep at it. However, Hayate keeps on
with a smile, and Mikado realises that he would be unable to
open the path to the Royal Garden, as he is unaware of his
misfortune.
Cue Santa scene! :D
Hayate runs into Mikado, who hands him the King's Jewel as
something he dropped (he calls it a piece of happiness). Hayate
is amazed by it, and is unsure if he can keep it, but Mikado
insists; the boy then asks 'Santa' why he doesn't bring him
presents. Cue the 'because your family is poor' bit and 'it is
the one who works hard and diligently who will have the last
laugh'. With that said, Hayate rushes off, as Athena rings
Mikado. He says that he hasn't found anyone, AND has lost the
King's Jewel. Athena insists on him getting it back, as we see
Hayate putting the Jewel in his little pocket-y thing.
