^ 'Pure love'. Izumi called it 'pure love'. :P
Chapter 408, with Sakuya on the cover- FUCKING MOVE, LOGO. D<
HnG fails to indulge me once again.
We open with Sakuya having a 'traditional Kansai breakfast',
like all Kansai people like to have. Except they don't, and it's
Makita trying to be funny, which Sakuya isn't impressed with.
She bemoans not having someone funny just lying around, and
suddenly, who should fall from a tree but Machina.
...
My real-life response was 'What- the- Jesus- f**k!?'
:D
He explains that Athena had told him not to be found, but he was
so hungry that he fell from the tree. Sakuya takes him to her
room, and feeds him - he eats rapidly, and remarks that his
stomach is a black hole. Sakuya has to get Makita and Kunieda to
keep bringing in more food (as they don't know about Machina,
Makita thinks she's punishing them because of his joke), and all
the while fails at getting info about Athena from Machina (he
can't tell... because he can't talk while eating XD).
Eventually, he notes he really wanted burgers, which an annoyed
Sakuya manages to get, but notes that in return, he's got to
explain about Athena.
10 Word Summary!
'Machina appears, eats and is mysterious. The cover trolls me.'
-Cuties bonus-
So... Ruka. First time we've had her not just singing or as a
Greek chorus. First half of the episode was the bike
chapter(s?), which really didn't surprise me. It was cute,
though. :P Second half was a very loose adaptation of the
earliest Ruka chapters, and while I initially was in love with
it, I've since figured a couple of flaws. Basically, Hayate,
Hina and the trio are in line to see a Ruka gig when Hayate gets
a text and has to head off to help Ruka, filling in for a
missing dancer. He also has to help Ruka quick-change due to an
injury (this time not because of previously-seen events :P). We
get snippets of 'Fukuin', 'Bakura, Kake Yuku Sora e' and
'Precious Nativity' (we also got to hear a bit of 'paradigm
shift' at the start of the episode with Hayate, Nagi and Maria
watching it on Blu-ray 8)), with Hina gradually getting REALLY
into the performance. XD As the last song starts - 'Yoki Shoujo
no tame no "Pavane"' (:D) - someone is lurking backstage. ...
f**king Gilbert. -_-; JUST GIVE US YOZORA ALREADY! With another
version of Unit 8. Well, at least Gilbert amusingly didn't
recognise Hayate in his maid clothes. XD Same stuff as before,
with the robot being dragged on stage, Hayate having to kick it
off as it goes haywire, and ending dance stuff. I actually quite
liked the dance at first - I have ideas of what a 'Pavane' video
would be like, so having a dance routine to it is actually a
blessing - but I realised later... it's f**king boring. :P It's
arm movements and a slight shimmy, basically. But hey, I was as
into it as Hina, who was being adorable, so no problems here. XD

409!
Nagi and Kurosu reach Kyoto, but Nagi's got no inspiration.
Kurosu continues talking about food, making Nagi angry, but
eventually her stomach rumbles so they go off to eat tofu. XD
Kurosu spends a page discussing tofu, which Nagi isn't happy
about (like, the waste of a page :P), and when Kurosu suggests a
manga about tofu, and actually ponders Nagi's rhetorical 'what
would a tofu manga be?', Nagi gets even more frustrated and
desperate. Kurosu insists that she can help, as she's a doctor
and used to hearing about people's problems. Nagi goes to read
her manga as it stands, but Kurosu enquires about the tofu
protagonist and Nagi storms off. XD
Outside, Kurosu catches up with Nagi, who rants about how she
doesn't know how to work hard for something as she's never had
to, even though this means so much to her. Hina and Chiharu hear
her ranting, and they and Kurosu insist that they'll help her
(Nagi can't remember having invited Hina and Chiharu with her
XD).
Tad annoyed that Kurosu is putting herself in the same position
as Kayura - poor Kayura's original purpose has gone now. D:
Though I love both of them. The tofu talk was win. XD
10 Word Summary!
'Nagi despairs over her manga, Kurosu obsesses over tofu
protagonists'.
-Cuties bonus-
Ayumu episode! And as you'd expect, full of adorability. And
more nekkidness than in the manga chapter, at the start.
Top-to-toe Ayumu in all her beauty. |3 We get the 'gained
weight', birthday and 'night-time school visit for lost
notebook' chapters here, interwoven well, and with Ayumu being
her usual cute self all the way through - most notably, singing
along to the Connecting Theatre theme, which I had to rewind and
replay. XDXD

Nagi introduces Kurosu as a 'fake doctor', which Kurosu
corrects. Hinagiku and Chiharu explain that they've already gone
sight-seeing in Kyoto so have no interest in doing more, meaning
Nagi would be alone in doing so - Kurosu suggests they go with
her to Ise. However, as her Lambo has only two seats, Hina and
Chiharu suggest the train. Remembering how fast the car is, Nagi
offers to go by train instead. :P And theeen...
Kayura and Isumi appear. Kayura is P*SSED with Nagi - she had to
travel with Isumi, who almost crashed them several times. Isumi
explains that if one girl goes with Kurosu, the other three can
go in her helicopter. None of them want to, so they pull
fortunes. Hinagiku goes first, getting 'Great Misfortune'.
Chiharu's is 'Misfotune', and it notes that her tastes will be
revealed. :P Nagi and Kayura are confident that they can't get
any worse - then Kayura gets 'Great Great Misfortune' and Nagi
gets 'Loser'. XDXD Chiharu declares herself the winner, as Maria
and Alice appear, noting that they came by private jet. The
others declare they'll head to Ise via that, as we see Chiharu
wailing in the Lambo as it speeds off. XDXD
Best quote - as Isumi suggests guiding the group to Ise, Kayura
mumbles 'It's over. Everything will burn. There will be nothing
left.' XDXDXD
10 Word Summary!
'The girls meet up in Kyoto and prepare for travels.'
-Cuties bonus (x2)-
Episode 9 is Chiharu and Kayura, with the former getting the
chapter where she notices how little all the girls seem to care
about how they're perceived and where she tries to get a BBQ
going, and Kayura's (alongside her being kooky in a framing
story at the BBQ X3) is her and Nagi being toured around Hakuou
by Hayate. Complete with not only the intrusion-on-changing-Hina
scene, but a repeat of that in the framing story. :P Episode 10
is Maria, with her as little Student Council President (complete
with Shiori!) and her date with Hayate due to Regiostar's prank
yandere letter (we get a couple of TWGOK references XD). Both
episodes are trickled through with awesome Hinagiku, Ayumu and
Ruka moments (Ayumu's fantasising face and Hina glomping a giant
teddy being highlights). Oh, and the episode 11 preview (which I
watched as we don't know who it focuses on) was just a phone
ringing, though this new manga chapter says that 11 and 12 are
anime-original. I figure it's Ruri and Shidou. Though I'd love
for Yozora to appear. :P

So, chapter 411, with Hinagiku, Kayura, Alice and Maria
discussing and tasting foods in Ise... though Nagi isn't happy
as she still has no inspiration. Kayura proposes that Nagi needs
to feel really cornered enough that she can work - what she
calls Super-Saiyan Theory. Sadly, her attempt at cornering Nagi
is the best line of the chapter (two in a row, nice one Kayura!)
is 'Y- Your momma has an outtie.' XDXDXD Hina's attempt about
giving it your all isn't much better. Alice, however, manages to
make Nagi feel so crap about herself and her failings that Nagi
rages into action. Alice bemoans that she still had more to say.
Hina and Kayura find this scary. XD
Nagi is still pondering her 'ghost wishes to see his favourite
anime completed' idea, but is failing to figure it out. Kurosu
approaches her, explaining that Nagi's idea of wishing for help
from the gods wouldn't work - it's more about the gods watching
over you in time of need. Nagi then gets an epiphany - the ideas
unravel in front of her, blurring together with her own mission
to keep Hayate and her journey to Kyoto. She's a-ready!
10 Word Summary!
'Alice is incredible, Kayura is epic, Nagi has new ideas.'
Cuties episode 11 is tonight!

412! Wanna keep this concise. XD
Nagi's busy working on her manga. Hinagiku and Kayura watch on,
impressed, and comment on Chiharu lying on the floor (Hina says
she's lying like a clump of mud; Kayura zings Chiharu with 'Oh,
that's Chiharu. I thought it really was a clump of mud.' XD)
Chiharu remarks that Lamborghinis are fast. Nagi asks for an
iPad, and Hinagiku gets out a massive dictionary that she
brought with her - Chiharu gets out her own iPad, while the
group discuss what's right to take on a trip. Hina has other
essentials with her, like weights to train with; Alice has a
credit card to get her way out of any situation; Maria has a
tonne of different kitchen knives. Nagi tells them all to stop
the silliness so she can focus on her story.
The next morning, they head to the temple/shrine, as Nagi thanks
Kurosu (and Kurosu thanks her in return). Nagi ends up falling
asleep, and Hina adorably gives her a piggy-back (she then
boasts that THIS is what training's for on a trip XD). As the
group return to the hotel, Chiharu and Kayura read in a
newspaper that Ruka is having a comeback gig. :o
10 Word Summary!
'Nagi writes, and the others discuss items. Hinagiku is
ADORABLE.'
-Cuties bonus
Episode 11... wow, what can I say? Thoroughly entertaining!
Clever, funny and curious! The return of the Tanuki and the
Black Camellia (as a clock with human arms and legs XD)! The
girls having dreams of kissing! Seemingly a screwy-timeline, or
at least wonky narrative jumping back and forth! The Tanuki
keeps referring to a mysterious master - though Nagi is revealed
at the end, I personally don't think that Nagi is the master as
she isn't exactly calling for anyone, nor is she the one
knocking on the door (that's the episode's title, by the way -
'Who's Knocking on the Door?' I'm hoping with futile
determination that it's Yozora. :P Oh, and we get to see Klaus,
who I don't think has spoken since the film or appeared in more
than one scene in even longer, as well as Aika, Kyounosuke, Fumi
and Sharna. :P And the cliffhanger? Hayate has to kiss a girl
before midnight - or he'll lose Nagi forever! :o
Episode 12 preview is another phone ringing, this time a
phone-booth one.

413, concluding the Kyoto/Ise arc!
Chiharu goes to phone Ruka, though Hina says not to... cos it's
6am and would be rude. :P After breakfast, they try again,
receiving no answer from Ruka, Hayate or the apartments. Though
Kayura manages to purchase three tickets to Ruka's concert. :P
Kurosu investigates the article all the while. As the group
decide to head home, Hina is unsure about using the plane, and
NO ONE wants to go by Isumi's helicopter (#5). XD Hina agrees to
go with Kurosu, who has business in Tokyo. Isumi phones Sakuya,
calling her to Ise, assumedly just so she can make use of the
helicopter. XD Hina is, of course, perfectly fine in Kurosu's
Lambo, since it's at ground-level, and Kurosu asks for info on
the Nagi/Ruka doujin competition. Later, Nagi wakes up in the
apartments, finding her doujinshi plan and stating how pleased
she is with it, though she wants to show Hayate before writing
the manuscript. Hearing his voice, she heads into the garden to
find-
TO FIND HAYATE HOLDING RUKA FROM BEHIND. O_O
And promising to make her happy.
Obviously this isn't what it seems, but still... WHOA.
10 Word Summary!
'Ruka's concert is surprising, Kurosu is suspicious, Hayate
huggles Ruka.'
-Cuties bonus-
Somehow forgot the dash on the last one. XD
Y'know what? This episode was great for most of its runtime. The
weird narrative became much clearer, we found out what both of
the ringing phones were, Kayura was amusing (I'm expecting this
by now :P), Risa had a brilliant line, Hina, Ayumu and Ruka were
sweet and awesome, Hayate's desperation was brilliant, the story
of which of these girls he's going to pick is building up...
And then Nagi wakes up and literally becomes a deus-ex-machina.
Suddenly, a story that had actually been focusing on the other
girls, after Can't Take My Eyes Off You was Hayate/Nagi-centric,
is suddenly throwing Nagi in to be the one to get the kiss - and
I'd say that it kind of makes sense (especially since Hayate
only kissed her forehead), but then the camera pans around and
shows the two of them framed in a love-heart by pedalo
swan-necks. I'm sorry, but... yes, this story was about saving
Nagi, but this whole season has been about the various girls,
and it would've been a darn sight braver - and a darn sight more
sensible - to have him kiss one of the other girls. With the way
Hinagiku plucked up her courage in this episode - going from
terrified of the idea of kissing him, to genuinely desiring it
and leading the others - it should've been her. They could've
still made it a kiss on the forehead, and the whole point about
'a kiss shouldn't be given so flippantly' is beside the point if
it really WAS always just going to be a little peck like that. A
brilliant two-parter was abruptly brought to an end by the
strong desire to ship Hayate and Nagi - I don't know whether
it's a way of getting the Hayate/Nagi end out there, so the
manga can do something else, kind of like Negima's Anime Final
(which, erm, also sucked :P), or if it's foretelling of the
manga end... but I cannot see a romantic end with these two.
Their relationship is different, and no less brilliant. But the
swan love-heart was honestly stupid to me and really hammered
home what could've been a more vague point in the story. Still,
the final scene of the Kurotsubaki spirit and the Tanuki
transforming into Shin and Yukariko, and them passing on
together, was brilliant.
Oh, and the knocking assumedly WAS Nagi, then. Makes no sense,
but it wouldn't surprise me after the Nagi-ex-machina we got.
All-in-all, this season has been interesting. Looking purely at
the episodes, they've been great fun and a great introduction to
the characters for a new viewer. Each character gets to shine
(though we're still missing a few of the major characters - OK,
Wataru and Saki haven't been that important lately, but it still
feels odd without them. And Yukiji isn't a Cutey so I get that
:P), the disparate manga chapters are interwoven beautifully,
and the animation was miles better than Can't Take My Eyes Off
You, with cleaner animation models and a more beautifully
realised world. However, if you step back... what was the point
of this season? It coming out so soon after CTMEOY, you'd think
they had some great plan, but really, the two seasons are
totally different. One is anime-original, plot-heavy, and the
other is mostly adaptations and very much slice-of-life. It just
feels a little disjointed, especially with Cuties having started
half a year after CTMEOY did. Plus, evidently, the final
two-parter was a cloaked way of shipping Hayate and Nagi again,
in a season that's focused on all the girls. Still, if Cuties
was produced to keep HnG going strong and in the anime-viewer's
minds, it's done a great job of that. Manglobe may be doing some
strange stuff with the franchise (I'd love them to cover the End
of the World and Greece arcs in OVAs over the next year, then
bring out a season 5 opening with Mystery Room arc), but I still
look forward to what they'll bring next.

Chapter 414 starts with- well, it starts with a cute Izumi
cover. :3 Then we see Sakuya reach Ise only to find out that
Isumi simply wants her to ride the helicopter back with her.
Sakuya asks if she can punch her. XD
We then go back and find out what happened after Hayate beat up
Kotetsu. Izumi, Miki and Risa intend on filming Hayate in the
maid clothes, which he refuses - moreso when they explain it's
for the video koshien and people nationwide will see it. XD Risa
notices Ruka, and calls the other two to retreat. She proposes
the basis for a funny video - setting a battlefield, with
someone walking in on the guy they trust embracing another girl
and whispering romantic comments in her ear. We get 'flashbacks'
(or I guess flash-forwards XD) to the previous chapter's
conclusion. Risa sends Izumi in to set up the battlefield,
complete with the glasses/viewing set-up from ch.403. Izumi (an
airhead genius, as Risa describes her :P) heads off and asks
Hayate to strip, before clarifying that she wants to try on his
clothes. The two head inside with Ruka, and Risa informs Izumi
via earpiece that she's installed a 'battlefield creation
switch' for emergency use. As Izumi ponders how she'll know when
to press it, when Ruka declares that she's taking part in a
doujinshi competition and if she wins, she'll marry Hayate.
Izumi presses the switch and a voice declares 'WHAT DID YOU SAY,
YOU THIEF!?' XDXD
10 Word Summary!
'Sakuya is p*ssed, Izumi is adorable and sets the battlefield.'

415! Gorgeous bikini-Hina cover. |3
Ruka goes all dark from 'Izumi' calling her a thief - Izumi
insists it was the glasses, though the switch/button no longer
works. Ruka asks if that means Izumi loves Hayate, and she gets
more and more flustered as she tries to cover for herself while
Ruka presses her. Risa ups the ante, by playing 'you could call
it a purely physical relationship'. Ruka is shocked, stating
that teenagers shouldn't be having those sorts of relations, and
Izumi insists that she didn't say that (her lips weren't even
moving! :P) and that she was forced to say it. Ruka seemingly
only hears 'forced' and thinks Hayate took advantage of her. XD
Hayate appears, and Ruka whomps him, before asking what he has
done to Izumi. Hayate states that he's given her lots of
hands-on lessons after school. Keep digging that grave, Hayate.
:P Izumi tells Hayate off for his phrasing, and Ruka asks once
again if Izumi loves Hayate. She says she can't say that in
front of him, but Ruka says she can, and does. 'Izumi' asks
Hayate what he likes about Ruka, and Ruka backs up the question
with curiosity. Hayate says that, amongst other things, when he
first saw Ruka performing she looked as lovely as a goddess. A
flustered Ruka thanks Hayate, just as Atsumari phones. She tells
Hayate that Ruka has a concert tomorrow that can't be cancelled,
and insists that Ruka will have to announce, in front of her
fans, her retirement as an idol if she so chooses.
10 Word Summary!
'Izumi and Ruka are cute together, but misunderstandings rule
all.'

Re: Hayate no Gotoku chapter reviews
By: Ashes Date: July 29, 2013, 8:18 am
---------------------------------------------------------
So, chapter 416 is about Ruka. :3
The narration discusses Hayate's 'certain something' (which it
seems usually Nagi has, not Hayate :P), in that his 'goddess'
comment has completely changed Ruka's response to the
possibility of retiring. She figures that if she performs again,
Hayate may fall for her all over again - she, of course, only
asks vaguely if he will 'fall in love again', which Izumi
misunderstands, as does Kotetsu who is promptly booted from the
window. XDXD Hayate says he doesn't plan on spending his life
alone, and Ruka asks him to accompany her to the office. Hayate
explains this all to Wataru, and proposes that the trio and
Kotetsu do the work in his and Ruka's place. For free. Or else
the trio will end up like Kotetsu. Touch harsh there, Hayate,
but I guess it's more bark than anything since the trio need to
be blackmailed into things like this. :P
At the Geneon Universal studio (no, really :P), Atsumari
explains to Ruka that she has a concert in Las Vegas in
September (yes, we know :P). She either needs to announce this
at the upcoming performance, or announce her retirement. For
now, she's asked to go through the routine for tomorrow's
concert, and Ruka asks for the trackset to be played (believing,
with epic expression, that Hayate is sure to fall for her again
just from watching this). She performs the dance routines
perfectly (Atsumari explains that 'Her body remembers. It is
carved into her cells' with awesome Ruka imagery all the while),
as Hayate stares in wonder and the narration reiterates the
power of Ruka's overwhelming selfishness. :P Ruka insists
(directing it at Hayate) that the actual concert will be even
better, and goes on to rework some of the routine.
Later on, Hayate remarks that she looked lovely (cue more epic
Ruka expressions XD), but Hayate asks if she really is going to
quit being an idol after coming this far.
Well... again, this is the problem with showing September's plot
before the manga gets there. We know she's still performing as
an idol. My only slim hope is that the CTMEOY stuff is actually
a split line, with this stuff being before the split. Ruka's
decision could be the Turn Left moment. I kinda doubt it though,
since CTMEOY is supposed to be manga-canon, but since Cuties is
canon to CTMEOY, not only do you now have to remove all the
manga-adaptation stuff from CTMEOY but also pretty much all of
the Cuties stuff, too (god, I hope Cuties episodes 11 and 12
aren't put in the manga -_-; ). I guess it explains why Alice
wasn't used in CTMEOY but was used in Cuties, though - if Cuties
isn't manga canon (timeline-wise) since it's all adaptations
anyway, she could be used there, but CTMEOY needs to slot into
the manga too, and Alice is back to Athena by now.
At this point, I'm just eager to wrap up this doujinshi comp
plot, get Nagi back in the mansion, and then move on to the
Alice/Athena stuff. Then we can get CTMEOY in the manga (I look
forward to manga Ruri :P), and finally we can move on to brand
new stuff. Like maybe the trip abroad re: Chiharu and Nagi
mentioned during Greece Arc, which I insist cannot be the Vegas
trip. Unless, of course, HnG season 5 is MORE manga-canon new
stuff. I hope not, though. -_-;
10 Word Summary!
'Ruka pulls epic expressions and tries to woo Hayate again.'

417! Gonna be quick with this one. XD
Ruka is pondering a difficult decision - which udon to buy. :P
Hayate scolds her, but the narration makes clear that she IS
still trying to decide whether to quit being an idol or not. As
she trains, we see her extravagant thought processes - one shown
as a mecha battle, with Ruka's enemy turning out to be Hayate
and Atsumari insist she make the killing strike. Hayate
interrupts her train of thought, shown as his mecha impaling
hers and Atsumari's. :P As she continues on, it turns into a
fantasy epic with her taking down a demon king... only for his
son to run out. Ruka starts to consider what she truly wants,
even as Hayate again interrupts (killing both father and son in
the thought :P). In the end, Ruka can't make a decision, and we
time-skip to the concert.
Wow, that WAS short. XD
10 Word Summary!
'Ruka tries to decide her future; Hayate unknowingly interrupts
her.'
