Re: Hayate no Gotoku chapter reviews

       ---------------------------------------------------------
       ^ I wish this site wouldn't bleep out my swearing. -_-;
So, I've taken a day's break from my readthrough of the entirety
of Hayate no Gotoku (I've read volumes 1-4 so far) to read the
newest chapter, 388, in a vacuum of the earlier stuff. Was it
       worth it?
       HELL YES! :D
Hinagiku's stuck in the apartment, ill, with her parents aboard,
Yukiji uncontactable, and no one else at the apartment. She's
thirsty, but can't move or hold a cup. In the haze of her
illness, she remembers a similar incident in her childhood,
       before her adoption.
And who should appear, but Hayate! Just when Hina needs him, he
shows up (she cries a bit XD), then gets a cool flannel for her
head and gives her a drink through a teapot. He then notes that
she's using a summer blanket, and goes to get something warmer.
While he's gone, Hinagiku notices something on the floor... her
pajama bottoms. She'd lacked the energy to put them on, and is
now in only her pajama top and panties. And Hayate's about to
       unveil just that. :P
She decides that she must put them on before he returns. He
immediately returns. XD As she has a freak-out in her head,
Hayate quickly pulls off and returns the blanket, as if he's
seen something. A-doi. :P And, being a gentleman and an idiot,
he decides to... put her pajama bottoms on her! It's OK, you
see; he's kept the blanket on her so he can't see. That doesn't
stop her going crazy from embarassment, of course. :P And by the
time he's put them on, she's passed out from illness and a bout
       of Hinagiku-brand flusteredness. XD
       10 Word Summary!
'Ill Hinagiku plus charming Hayate leads to shmexy, funny
       stuff.'
And now I can use the rest of the day to get other stuff out of
the way, and continue my read-through tomorrow. :3 Don't think
there's gonna be another chapter til Christmas eve, so I
would've completed my read-through by then. Seeya on the othe
       side!

       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Lul, "the othe side". XD
So chapter 389. What is it like? Well...
We get filled in on what happened with Hayate between the last
two chapters, with Mikado phoning him while he helps Saki.
Apparently, Hayate needs to retrieve a King's Jewel for Nagi for
her to become a potential successor to the Sanzenin fortune
again. Mikado notes how he had 9 initially but 3, including the
one that Nagi crushed, have been destroyed. I wish Hayate had
mentioned the 'twelve crests' thing that he discovered after
Mystery Room. -_-; (although I figure there must have been
another 3 before that got destroyed) Hayate tries to contact
Aika, but her fiance refers to her as "milady" when alerting her
to the call and because of that, she chooses not to answer. XD
(he's a butler. And his face is obscured. My god, is it
really... Himegami? :o) He decides he'll have to try asking
       Alice instead.
Jumping across ch.388, we see Hayate and Hina discussing her
collapsing, and Hayate then notes that no one else will be
coming back for the night, so they'll be alone together. Hina
goes vibrant as Hayate leaves, and then...
       We get Angel!Hina and Devil!Hina. :D
While D!Hina wants Hina to take advantage of this and have
Hayate treat her, A!Hina thinks it's unfair and that Hina should
get some rest. D!Hina notes that it's that attitude that's kept
her on the comedy side of love-comedy, but A!Hina says that's
just cos Hina sucks at that kind of thing. XD Then Hina puts
D!Hina under a glass... and insists to A!Hina that she'll rest
       AFTER Hayate treats her. :P
She asks Hayate to cut her an apple (like a bunny; so with the
peel left on like ears), and while he does, he ponders how
reliant on him she's being right now. Flashes of Ruka come to
mind and he wonders just how similar these events are (y'know...
maybe Hina loves him too? :P). He brings Hina the slices, and
she asks him to feed her. He does so, and she says how she
wishes he would treat her like this all the time, but is instead
focused on Nagi. Another Ruka flash. Hina says she wishes he'd
treat her like his lady and hold her hand til she falls asleep.
He figures nothing will come of it, and so takes her hand and
       calls her 'milady'...
Just as Alice walks in! :P
Alice: Feel free to continue pretending to be his lady.
       Hinagiku: ... that's okay. *speech-bubble sweatdrop*
       Narration: And nothing happened.
       10 Word Summary!
'Mikado poses an ultimatum, and Hinagiku is adorable as always.'

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Forgot to mention in the last review and couldn't be assed to
edit... Nagi will also regain the mansion if Hayate gets a
       King's jewel. :P
So, ch. 390! Hayate is asking Alice if she knows anything about
the King's jewels and their locations; she doesn't, what with
her lack of memories, but she says that Mikado had stated that
Hayate knows where one is. The girl heads off to bed, and while
Hayate ponders, Nagi shows up. He gets her a cafe au lait and
they discuss Ruka. Hayate was not aware that it wasn't just
       puppy love. :P
Nagi states that she's betting 150 million yen on the doujin
competition - if Ruka wins, she wins Hayate. If Nagi wins, Ruka
has to give up on Hayate. Nagi also goes on to discuss the
Sanzenin fortune, and insists that once Hayate gets a jewel,
she'll be moving back into the mansion. She's apparently sick of
the apartments and she wants Hayate to herself.
To be honest, this chapter would be so much more impactful if we
didn't have season 3. We know that Nagi's back in the mansion,
so we KNOW how that's going to turn out. And, unfortunately,
this new info about the bet explains why Ruka does nothing but
sing and act as a Greek chorus in CTMEOY... she's effectively
banished from the main cast. I hope it's not that bad and I'm
just putting two and two together to get fifteen, but if this
basically means Ruka ends up a periphery character, I'm not
gonna be very happy. I can't help but feel that, if we hadn't
seen future events, this would've been a bit more meaningful,
but as is, we can tell exactly what'll happen. At most, people's
predictions that Isumi's random 'for some reason, I will win!'
line is sneaky foreshadowing (I was reminded during my
readthrough that Isumi also draws doujin :P) would lead to Nagi
and Ruka both losing, and Ruka could maybe step down of her own
accord and still hang around anyway. But I really do love the
apartments set-up, especially with the characters who are living
there and how it's effectively made them the core cast. Alas...
       10 Word Summary!
'Hayate ponders jewels while Nagi outlines upcoming developments
       and plot-points.'

Very speedy look at Chapter 391...
Part of Fumi's summer homework is a plant/animal observation
piece. She decides, much to Sharna's (not particular) surprise,
to observe the people of Akihabara. Her observations include how
they all have 2D girlfriends, and how the observation's
protagonist, NPC A, has Homu Homu as his waifu (Homura! XD). Of
course, this dynamic has been shifted by the arrival of Chiharu
to the store's staff. Everyone is smitten, and NPC A is madly in
love. The nature documentary-style coverage turns into
football(/soccer) commentary with Isumi joining, as NPC A goes
to ask Chiharu if he'd go to the beach with him over summer and
       is brutally cut off. XD
'Second half', and NPC A strikes up conversation about an anime
that Chiharu likes. It never came out on DVD, but he'd taped it
to VHS, and he offers lending it to the excited Chiharu. Of
course, she'll have to pick it up at his house... which she
accepts. When she does so (Fumi, Sharna and Isumi still
following), NPC A goes to profess his love for her, but Hayate
phones her right at that moment. XDXD She heads off, leaving NPC
       A devastated. :P
For a Fumi chapter, it wasn't in the leagues of 'helluva maid!'
and its kin, but was still amusing and fun. XD
       10 Word Summary!
'Fumi's homework becomes a humorous social commentary on typical
       otaku.'

       Chapter 392. Izumi-centric! :D
The student council trio are faced with the evil Hakuou homework
book thing. Risa suggests they take a new approach - they'll
break the book into three sections, and each get help from
someone smart. She decides Hayate, Hinagiku and Chiharu are
appropriate, and suggests they go to Izumi's house and calls
       them there.
Needless to say, only Hayate turns up, as the girls had been
suspicious of the situation (to a scarily accurate degree XD).
Miki and Risa head off to find Hina and Chiharu, while Hayate
stays with Izumi. She asks for help with her homework, and
Hayate realises the best thing to do is be strict with her, help
her think for herself and learn rather than spoonfeeding her and
losing time on his own homework.
Anyway, Izumi truly is an idiot, misunderstanding the simple
rules of one question, thinking 'H[sub]2[/sub]O' is an English
word, and finally answering one "question" - writing her name at
the top. XD Hayate decides it would be best to just help her
understand. Izumi says it'll go in one ear and out the other -
she thinks that means it'll be learnt so quick that it'll be
immediately useful, but Hayate notes that it ISN'T. He adds that
he's worried for her future, though she says she thought maybe
he could support her. He notes that he wouldn't support an idiot
       girl, much to her horror.
And Miki and Risa are getting it WORSE from Hina and Chiharu. :P
       10 Word Summary!
'Adorable idiot Izumi fails at most things, which irks Hayate.'

Ch.383. Nagi's attempting to work on her manga, but...
  HTML http://i.imgur.com/mf3Di5n.png
Furthermore, she keeps getting distracted - Maria offers her
some Haagen-Dazs* and then proceeds to do the ironing next to
Nagi. Rightfully, she gets pissy, with Maria taking offence and
leaving Nagi alone. Hina then returns home, and Maria offers her
the ice-cream; Hina in turn offers it to Nagi, who snaps at her
(I lol'd XD). Maria warns Hina to leave Nagi alone, using the
analogy of a kitten. Chiharu then shows, offering Nagi another
type of ice-cream and futher pissing her off.
Nagi explains that she's trying to work on her manga for the
competition, and when Chiharu notes how this much has been the
plan for ages, Nagi notes her bet with Ruka. Chiharu is worried
for Nagi now; she shows her the manuscript that Ruka considered
a failure, that being the Phoenix Warrior Iroha Karuta one.
Ruka, she says, has talent running through her. Nagi despairs,
and Ayumu dramatically bursts in (XDXD), telling Nagi that she
can't win with thoughts like that. Nagi asks how she's meant to
win, and Ayumu states 'by become a monk'.
*as an amendment to a review of an older chapter, Nagi
mentioning Haagen-Dazs when Ruka talks about Italian ice-cream,
and Ruka then saying 'you've eaten it?', is Ruka saying 'you've
eaten Italian ice-cream?' in the sense of Nagi noting that H-D
is better than Italian ice-cream, a fact she could only know
from eating both. :P Also, to my disappointment, Chiharu says
'don't make fun of glasses girls' in that ch., not 'glasses
girl', which I thought was a moment of her adopting Nagi's
       nickname for lolz XD
       10 Word Summary!
'Nagi is distracted from her manga, but is Ruka better?'

Wish this stupid thing wouldn't bleep out my f*cking swear
words... even ones like p*ss. From here on, I'll be putting
asterisks in the words manually. One letter blocked is better
       than all.
So, chapter 394, and Ayumu has brought Nagi and Chiharu to the
mountains. According to her, this is where the Japanese come
when they need to train. Nagi points out that her dad was
American (ooh, nice info), but Ayumu finds it unimportant. Nagi
also asks if she's not bound to win, since she's the main
character. Of her own life, of course. And has characteristics
       of a main character.
As is pointed out, Ruka is more main-character material than
       Nagi. :P
Ayumu explains how there's no reason to believe that Hayate will
stay with her without the debt, giving an analogy with her old
pet parrot, Ran. In the end, Chiharu manages to explain things
to Nagi more effectively. XD Ayumu brings the two to the 'dark
rainbow village', where she insists that Nagi shall work on
storyboarding whenever she's not eating or sleeping. She
explains that Nagi's art is majorly inferior to Ruka's, so
storyboarding is where Nagi should work. When Nagi points out
that Ayumu knows nothing about manga, Ashibashi enters (and
calls Ayumu 'Ayuyu'... affectionate nickname or him having no
idea what her name is? XD) Ayumu insists to Nagi that she will
do anything in her power to keep Ruka from having Hayate. Nagi
is uneasy at the idea of Ashibashi seeing her manuscript after
last time, but he tells her that the last one was pretty good.
It's hinted that Ayumu had him say this as a confidence boost to
       Nagi.

       training.'

       395! We're just a few chapters away from 400!
Hayate and Nagi discuss Nagi's trek to the mountains to work on
her manga, and her having advised Hayate to help Ruka. (... eh?
Why should she want Hayate near Ruka? XD) As Hayate leaves, he
asks Maria if she'd like to join him... otherwise, she'll have
nothing to do. Maria insists that she does have things to do,
but once Hayate leaves, she realises that she really doesn't. XD
Inspired by a sport on TV (we don't see what so beats me :P),
Maria decides to try something sporty. Her attempts at bouncing
a ball off of the fencing fails gloriously. XDXD Hinagiku
appears, and while Maria is eager to get her food or do her
laundry, Hina's already on top of all that. Furthermore, she's
just stopping by, as Nagi has asked for her help. Exasperated
that Nagi asked for Hina and not herself, Maria decides to draw
       her OWN manga!
... which is the story of a blushing apple-headed girl called
Hop-chan, who is constantly confessed to by other
forest-denizens and so is always red. And the manga is about how
Hop-chan becomes supreme ruler of the universe, in spectacular
sudden-switch-up manner. XD Maria remarks that it may be a
little over the top, though. :P
       10 Word Summary!
'Bored Maria attempts sports and manga, but isn't very good.'

       366. Hina reaches the mountain resort, and gets the lowdown from
Nagi and Ayumu. However, she asks if Hayate has an opinion on it
and the girls don't know. Hina realises who that must mean he's
picked, and wonders if Ruka knows.
All the while, Ruka's moaning in pleasure and begging Hayate to
stop. It's just a footrub, though. :P (still... :D) She was
moaning to heighten the experience for him, but he's not
impressed. He asks if she has anything else she'd like - she
asks to see his underwear and is irked when he declines. XD She
then asks Hayate who he wants to win the competition, and after
some thought, he realises that he's not thought that far ahead.
Ruka surmises that he basically has no intention to stop being
Nagi's butler, and decides to just go all out. She reminds
Hayate of the time he promised her one wish, whenever she asks
       it, no matter how outlandish.
  HTML http://i.imgur.com/v8GuRrs.png
Hayate is utterly shocked and insists that she stop joking, but
she's adamant. If she wins, he's to marry her ('you get to marry
a teenage idol! That means you win at life!!') Hayate remembers
how he promised to follow her wish, even at risk to his own
       life, and therefore accepts.
... which is great and all, but come the Manglobe stuff, he's
       blatantly not married to Ruka and is still Nagi's butler. -_-;

Currently on my bro's old laptop, so I'll be brief with the new
       review. :P
Nagi is shocked at hearing that Hayate has genuinely agreed to
marry Ruka, but he says it'll be fine if Nagi wins... which Nagi
knows is not very likely. :P She goes off to a bookstore to find
help, which Chiharu thinks means 'manga ideas' but is actually
books like 'how to win a competition while you sleep'. Nagi is
angered that none of them contain manga ideas. XD
Ayumu asks Ashibashi for his advice, and he tells the group
(Nagi, Ayumu, Chiharu, Hina) about a scary story of his - a true
story. He tells Nagi that basing a story on true events is a
good way to come up with a story. Looking over her schedule,
Nagi declares that they're to go on a trip to get some
       interesting stories.
I do wonder where the hell Kayura is in all this, since she was
introduced to be Nagi's crazy mentor. :|
       10 Word Summary!
