What a tweest! Chapter 537 largely follows the same pattern as
the previous chapter, with Hayate getting toyed with by Maria
rather than the other way around. As he considers the past ten
months of history, he decides to try and get her to fall for him
by way of their shared fond memories. Turns out Maria considers
a lot of it to be sexual harassment and trouble-making. :P But
she does like him to. And she confesses...
That she's thinking of quitting being a maid.

Chapter 538. Hayate is clearly shocked by Maria's revelation,
and she reminds him what he said before - that Nagi doesn't need
them anymore. It really hit her during that moment in the
Doujinshi Arc, when Nagi spilt ink on her pages. Before Maria
could comfort her, Chiharu stepped forward and got Nagi back on
her feet. As was clear at the time, that really shook Maria up -
she's realised that she relied too much on Nagi to give her
purpose, but soon she'll be nothing more than a regular maid,
cooking and cleaning. She wants out now, while she's still
special to Nagi. Hayate insists that Nagi's still just a child -
she insisted that she needed chocolate to draw, after all. Maria
says she'll have drawn it anyway. She's going to "graduate" -
she's almost 18 now, after all.
Chiharu brings Nagi some chocolate (Nagi complains but eats
anyway XD). The doujinshi pages are done. Hayate frets over
Maria's revelation - seems she doesn't know when she'll tell
Nagi, but it'll be before her birthday. He still has no idea
what to do about everything. And elsewhere, Yozora manages to
defeat Machina and get his King's jewel... while referring to
herself as a royal.

Quick ch.539 summary... Yukariko basically instilled in Nagi the
belief that money is important in relationships, Nagi considers
that she needs the inheritance to keep Hayate, and then we get
another misunderstanding-laden Hayate and Nagi conversation
where she thinks he's trying to secure the inheritance for their
future. :P Chiharu experiences the collateral. XD
And Isumi and Alice are on Yozora's trail...

Well, chapter 540 was a bit unexpected...
It's a big flashback to the last night of the Level 5 trip,
September 26th. Oh, before that, lovely Hinagiku with revealing
footwear on the cover. :3 Anyway, the chapter is basically about
Yukiji spending her new 2.4 billion yen unwisely (like getting a
McLaren or allowing students to spend 270 million on souvenirs),
and Hinagiku trying to get her to stop and use her money wisely.
We also get Hayate doing an "I can see the ending" complete with
pushing-up-glasses pose. ;P
Anyway, the last few pages see the two in the wee hours, with
Hina saying that she no longer cares what Yukiji does with her
money since she's being to stubborn about it. Yukiji then
relinquishes the remaining billion yen to Hina. She insists that
it's her decision, notes that "it's okay to screw up" and that
Hina seems bad at that... and then walks off, seemingly for the
last time.
(She does mention that Hina being bad at screwing up "makes a
good story a decade down the road", so I don't know if that's
setting up an epilogue reunion or something...)

Chapter 541 is Izumi-centric! It's time to fill out future plan
forms, but Izumi doesn't know what she wants to do. Miki plans
on following the family tradition of being a politician (and
she'll be the first female prime minister!), and Risa plans to
work at the family shrine; they imagine Izumi will become a NEET
since she has no dreams. :P She goes to Aika and Hayate for help
in identifying her dream, and Aika says it should become
apparent as she pays attention to her daily life. She assigns
Hayate to watch over her. XD
They go to a small plot of land that Izumi's dad has purchased,
and where she's been tending to the moss and weeds. Hayate is
confused as to why she's not planting nice flowers instead, but
Izumi explains how the moss is basically the underdog (living in
the gloomy places as they can't compete in the light) and how
weeds serve their purpose in becoming sustenance for other
plants. Hayate identifies that Izumi is like the sun, providing
light and warmth to everything; Aika asks him why he's proposing
to Izumi. XD Izumi then realises a dream that could fit that...
Space pilot. XD She's naive and hopeful and sweet. And you never
know...

Eh, not much to say on ch.542. I've not seen Shin Godzilla and I
don't like the Wataru/Saki pairing. :P

543 is basically in two parts. Firstly, Nagi flashes back to her
and Wataru at the river from last chapter. He tells her that
they can't get married anymore - she hits him, but he elaborates
that they're still betrothed. He then hands her his King's
Jewel, saying that his mother told him it was a guide to fulfill
his dreams, but she needs it more than him. He's going to make
his shop better and better, and eventually, he'll advertise
Nagi's manga. He tells her to work hard. In the present, Chiharu
enquires about the stone - Nagi explains that it is a stone of
bonds, and that it leads to a god-inhabited castle which
contains the Royal Power.
We transition to Mikado's mansion, where Hayate is recapping the
situation to Mikado and Alice: Yukariko hid Loto's key in the
Royal Garden palace, and Hisui will inevitably steal both the
Power and the inheritance if she makes it there. Alice then asks
about restoring herself to her true form, and Mikado asks for a
stone as his "jumping chance". Hayate hands over a stone... I
can't remember how many stones he now has, or if he knows that
Nagi has received one... I suspect not since he'll inevitably
break her heart while she's holding it... Anyway, Mikado then
explains that Alice simply needs to destroy the stone containing
her power (he adds that "this has already been proven"...). She
goes to contact Isumi so as to get the stone back from Machina,
only to learn that it's been stolen. All the while, Hisui holds
that stone, and asks what the Royal Power is.

Chapter 544! Mikado thinks Hayate and Alice are talking about
Aikatsu. The discussion with Sakuya clarifies that it was Yozora
who stole the King's Jewel, and not only does Hayate recognise
her (from a photo) as Hisui's maid, but Alice recalls her attack
on the apartments. They head off to Hisui's to retrieve the
stone, while Isumi tells Sakuya that she's off for a rematch
with Yozora. Hisui inspects the stone, and Yozora tells her that
Loto's key supposedly lies in the Royal Garden palace, though
Hisui is skeptical.
As Hayate and Alice approach in a helicopter, Hayate asks about
the Royal Power - Alice asks if he knows about the king with
donkey ears, and explains Midas' history... craving gold,
meeting a god, making a wish, golden touch, regrets, donkey
ears, all that. Apparently Midas then realised that he should
really aim for the god's power, and used his riches and the
power of the stars to imprison her in a palace "beyond time".
She lives in the palace. And the power that put her to sleep -
the Royal Power - is within the coffin.

We begin ch.545 with the Yukariko and Himegami flashback - this
time, we see the spectral form of Orumuzuto Nadja answering
Yukariko's call. We then jump between Hayate and Alice and Nagi
and Chiharu discussing the Royal Garden palace - that using the
manuscript usually takes 50 years off of your lifespan, but that
isn't so when you're inside the palace and holding a King's
jewel. You can use the Royal Power freely. The tradeoff is being
trapped within the palace unless someone else saves you - ergo,
a stone of bonds. Chiharu notes that Nagi and Hayate should be
fine, as they love each other. Maria overhears this, and sets
off to "do something about" it.
Hayate and Alice reach Hisui's mansion, but are uncertain of how
to enter. The gate then gets blown open - Isumi greets the two,
and says that the gate exploded of its own accord. :P She then
uses a magic spell to keep Hisui from being mad at the
intrusion... calling out for her to play. XD She then sets off,
and Alice brings out the battery charger necklace thing, noting
she won't need it if Isumi is around. It temporarily seals the
stone's curse (i.e. that's how it can revert her to her true
form). They then notice that Isumi has gotten lost. XD
Hisui prepares a large blade, saying she'll hear out her
intruders but won't let them leave unharmed. She then greets
Hayate and Alice as they explore her mansion.

Picking up where we left off, chapter 546 starts with Yozora
giving Hisui the lowdown on Athena/Alice - of note is the fact
that Athena was using the Royal Power to "heal her own deadly
illness", that she was trapped in the palace for years, and that
Yozora considers Athena (in her true form) to be their greatest
threat. She clarifies that Alice wants to destroy the palace,
and explains to Hisui that destroying the King's Jewel will
return her to her true form.
So Hisui smashes it.
Yozora is shocked. Hisui is attentive. Hayate considers how it
actually gives "us" the advantage. Alice returns, once and for
all (assumedly), to her real age!
And Hisui bursts into maniacal laughter! She's confirmed, with
her own eyes, that all of this magic and majesty is real. What's
more, she's already identified that Hayate has a stone on him -
she could read his "that gives us the advantage" in his eyes.
She charges at him, sword in-hand, ready to take the stone.
