So... it's been a loooong while. Thankfully, we totally skip
past more drawn-out cas!no stuff. Instead, we get an insight
into Ayumu's daily life!
I won't go into detail. I'll just summarise that it's very
normal and very sweet. And her highlight is talking to Hayate
who is as indelicate as ever. :P
The narration at the end suggests that the Guatemala and the
toilet paper were the highlights. For me, it was a panel with
Ayumu's foot. :P (Sadly not sole-side... come on, Hata! D:)
10 Word Summary!
"Ayumu is a totally normal girl. Hayate brings the crazy."
Ad Astra Per Aspera's volume 1 is releasing soon. Guess there've
been a few more chapters since I last read... must catch up. XD
And the next chapter of HnG supposedly comes out on Jan 27th,
but this one was Jan 6th so I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't
see ch.217 until February...

Well, only just! (And it was uploaded yesterday...)
Chapter 517 begins with Wataru receiving a hefty profit from his
doujinshi store. He's focused it on Love Live and gotten a surge
of customers, because as ever, lowest common denominator reigns
supreme. :P He pays Saki a 500,000 yen bonus and gives her the
day off. Of course, Saki has no idea what to do with the money -
after depositing 300 thousand into her savings, she heads to
Ginza, where she walks around impressed that she can afford so
many different things. She then decides to get sushi, and
struggles to maintain an adult image.
But she manages to make another step into adulthood and she
comes home tipsy, so hooray? :P
10 Word Summary!
"Saki gets a bonus and splashes out on her adulthood."

I really must catch up on Ad Astra Per Aspera...
Anywho, chapter 518 focuses on Fumi! She's after money since
it's New Year since her family are useless (Armageddon and Ell
just eat). The suggestion comes up that she get a part-time job
(Ell largely just wants Fumi to earn money while she continues
to eat for free :P). Fumi throws a coincidentally-rhymed diss at
Ell, and... well, the idea of Fumi rapping ensues, and then she
gets into a rap battle against Hatsuho, with her rapping focused
purely on Sharna's A-cups and her dream for a sexy body.
Needless to say, the only hit Fumi gets is from Sharna punching
her. :P
10 Word Summary!
"Fumi discovers the world of rapping; where could it lead?"

So, chapter 519...
We start with Yukiji being given a card containing 2.46 billion
yen, which apparently includes Sonia's 100 million. I can't even
remember why she's being given that, but anyway. XD (Stupid
drawn-out Level 5 trip and slow release of chapters...)
Then Hayate and Maria discuss Nagi - she's not going to take the
29.44 million yen she's won, since it was all going to come from
the Sanzenin anyway. Maria observes that this is the first time
Nagi has beaten her at a game, and that she has taken to
sleeping alone now too. She suggests that Nagi no longer needs
them, even as Hayate hears (or flashes back to?) Yukariko's
words.
Elsewhere, Mikoto talks with Ruri about whether or not to take
the stone that Hayate has - to sum up, Mikoto has changed her
mind, she meets up with Hayate, notes that he looks like Shin (I
assume), and then hands him the two stones that she has (which
Ruri had gathered). She then asks Hayate what the "human voice
that sounded like a god" said.
Apparently next issue is a big 'un! May have to attempt another
plot figuring-out thing...
10 Word Summary!
"Nagi's growing up, Maria's feeling useless, and more stones
abound."

Well, we get to the big thing eventually. :P
Mikoto takes Hayate to a bar, mistakenly thinks he's old enough
to drink in America, and continues to guzzle down alcohol as he
tries to explain when he heard Yukariko's voice back in Shimoda.
Mikoto tries to load up a photo of Yukariko, but instead shows a
random guy eating noodles - she then struggles to find the right
photo as she's rather drunk, and Hayate has to do it. XD With
the confirmation that Hayate saw Yukariko, Mikoto explains who
she was and that...
The King's Jewels open the way to the Royal Garden with a burst
of negative emotions. An evil king once encountered a god,
wanted to become god himself, and stole the god's power, sealing
it in a coffin and building up the Royal Garden around it.
Yukariko had decided to return the power to the god, but died
before completing her mission. Mikoto is entrusting Hayate with
that role, which involves destroying the Royal Garden. She adds
that he will face opposition... someone wants that power (beside
Mikado who we saw in a previous panel, and Hisui who seems to
want the power too, but hey-ho :P), namely Himegami Aoi.
(Not sure if we're reading his name in the Japanese order, and I
recall his name being Akane before, but hey-ho, Himegami time!
:D)
10 Word Summary!
"Alcohol somewhat hinders Mikoto's summary of the big plot
engine."

Chapter 521 is kind of bittersweet. Oh, and it doesn't address
Himegami at all. Cheers, Hata. :P
The trip is over, and everyone's at the airport, preparing to
return to Japan. Well, Hinagiku's being her wonderfully stubborn
acrophobic self, insisting she'd sooner travel on-foot or swim
back to Japan. XD On the plane, Nagi states that she's fine with
not being in luxury for the journey, while Hinagiku requires
tending to (oh Hina XD). As the plane takes off, Nagi notes that
soon enough, it'll be Hayate's birthday, then hers, and then
Christmas again.
Later, at night, Hayate is looking out of a window. Hinagiku
joins him, noting that she can bear to stand since it's no
different to being in her seat. Either way, she's in the sky. :P
The two get to talking about the trip, and Hayate suggests it'll
be the last time they'll have an adventure like this. Hina then
points out that Hayate is now free of his debts, and can quit
being a butler and find love as he pleases. Once he's back in
Japan, his new life begins.
The narration states that a long journey ends, and the end
begins.
The implication is that we only have one more arc to go. I would
hope that it'll be a big one - perhaps even bordering on
Doujinshi Arc length (or is that too much? :P). I've kind of
gotten the feeling that Hata just wants to end things now, ever
since we jumped two or three weeks from the end of summer to get
to the Level 5 trip set-up. The beginning of Ad Astra Per Aspera
doesn't help, as it kind of feels like Hata's basically started
his next project while still running his current one, to kind of
ease the transition. But at the same time, it's like his focus
is more on AAPA now. I know the feeling. :P But I wouldn't want
him to give Hayate no Gotoku an abridged ending just for the
sake of wrapping it up quickly. Hayate's birthday is in late
November, and I'll be disappointed if we jump ahead to that. I'm
sure, unless we get another Doujinshi Arc (which was, what,
mid-May to early-August), that we'll have some time-skipping...
I'd just prefer it to be within the Arc, as part of the story,
rather than just jumping two months so we can get to the
conclusion. I also imagine, since Hata seems to be really
invested in a HayatexNagi end, that Hayate will either quit
being Nagi's butler and then hook up with her, or just outright
be her butler-boyfriend. I really want Hata to win me over with
their relationship, because it still doesn't feel like a
romantic one. It's nice as it is. Do a Waspinator and Arcrise -
make them something unique! :P
Anyway, nice Alice in Wonderland-themed Hinagiku cover to this
chapter, and I laughed a lot at this exchange:
Chiharu: Aika-san. What left the biggest impression on you?
Aika: On me? That would of course be... *sinister look* That
bugs die when you squish them.
10 Word Summary!
"The trip is over, Hina hates heights, the end begins."

Chapter 522 begins with Nagi informing Chiharu that Ika-chan has
ended. They discuss long-running manga ending, the fact that the
final arc often runs for years as the mangaka tries to bring
together a satisfying conclusion and roles or appearances for
everyone character, the suggestion that a one-volume finale
would be ideal (don't you dare Hata, that'd mean only 11 more
chapters!), and the fact that Nagi hasn't been doing any manga
lately.
A bit later, she discusses with Hayate that she's going to base
her new manga (which she's planning on submitting and winning a
prize for by her birthday) on the events of the Level 5 trip.
This quickly spins out into a Hinagiku-lookalike being a
programmer from space with future super powers, which is
obviously ridiculous. However, she does show some signs of
wanting to focus it down as she has a page number limit.
A few days on, and Nagi shows Hayate her work - Almighty Butler
Hayata-kun. It basically recounts Hayate and Nagi meeting, him
being unlucky but competent, her being rich and stubborn, there
being misunderstandings but bonds definitely growing between
them... and then something almost tears them apart, but they
realise their love for each other and have a happy ending
(marriage). Hayate is stunned by this, tells her it's quite
good, and then seems shocked at the apparent fact that Nagi
loves him.
Please take this slow, Hata. I don't want years' worth, but I
don't want one volume either. And if you really want to go for a
HayatexNagi ending... please, please handle it well. It still
seems stupid and forced, and I need to be as convinced by
Hayate's inevitable realisation that he loves Nagi as he needs
to. It feels very weird to genuinely be nearing the end... and I
know that you can make this spectacular. So don't rush it, don't
half-@rse it, and don't assume we're all on-board with
HayatexNagi. Surprise us, convince us, break and warm our
hearts. You can do it, but you need to try. And after all this
time, the manga more than deserves the very best right up to the
end.
Still uncertain of how this will play out...
10 Word Summary!
"Endings are abound, and Hayate realises that Nagi loves him."

Chapter 523, nice quick summary. :)
Chiharu also thinks Nagi's manga manuscript is good - her best
work yet. Nagi says she never noticed that Chiharu was cute. XD
All the while, Hayate and Maria are visiting Mikado, who claims
to be unwell... as a certain voice actor's radio show had ended.
XD They prepare to make supper, but Hayate decides to stay with
Mikado to speak with him. All the while, all the staff begin
panicking about "her" turning up out of the blue.
Hayate approaches Mikado about the inheritance "game", and
Mikado leads him to a large room from which the entire wealth of
the Sanzenin is controlled. There's also a locked glass case
that contains Mikado's will and a pen - unlock the case, sign
the will, and you're the new head of the Sanzenin. The key is
the object of the game. Before any more can be discussed, two
figures appear. Hayate and Yozora recognise one another, and...
HISUI states that Hayate must be Himegami's replacement.
Hisui! :D She looks like evil Nagi with a scar over her right
eye.

Chapter 524, even quicker!
Hayate clocks who Hisui is, and recalls all of the talk about
her being greedy and behind Nagi as inheritor of the Sanzenin
money. Indeed, Hisui asks Mikado why Nagi is back in the running
to inherit, and Mikado basically tells Hisui that she's greedy
and dangerous. She goes to kill him with a sword - Hayate
blocks, and Hisui backs off, saying she'll simply find the key
to the will and write her name on it. Mikado tells Hayate that
Hisui could become a threat to the whole world once grown up, if
she had the Sanzenin fortune.
Later, Hayate returns to the mansion, and resolves to protect
Nagi's future even if it costs him his life.
10 Word Summary!
"Hisui is a wonderful psycho and a significant threat indeed."

Chapter 525, in brief (to be fair, it's not a very dense
chapter).
Hayate informs Nagi of the key-hunt. Then Mikado turns up, and
reveals that the box that the key was stored in only has a
message from a young Yukariko, saying she took the key. Everyone
figures out that they need to play along with Yukariko's game
and that there must be a hint of some kind. Hayate, Nagi and
Maria decide to ask Hatsuho and Mikoto, starting with the
former.
10 Word Summary!
"Mikado lost the inheritance key - as in, Yukariko stole it."
Remember, losing something and it being stolen are the same
thing. :P
