Chapter 506, already!
Sakuya explains that Mikado sent her to supervise the final
round of the competition - Hayate and Nagi presume she had
nothing better to do, but she insists that's not so. She figured
she'd come along since it sounded fun. They again figure she had
nothing better to do. :P They then make clear that it's not been
fun, and Sakuya storms off to make sure it is. She visits Isumi,
who explains that, though she doesn't want the prize money, has
no intention of losing the competition. Sakuya manages to press
her Completer, though. :P
Elsewhere, Yukiji and Sonia discuss the competition, and
Kananiwa appears to confirm that, should there be multiple
contestants when the time runs out, they'll all be disqualified.
To that end, Yukiji realises that she has to be proactive to
secure Aika's victory (and her reimbursement). As Hayate and
Nagi walk, Hayate notices the number of competitors drop down to
seven. Yukiji appears, stating that she's paid off the
background students, and offers Hayate the same - one million
yen. Sonia reasons that being an extra 10 million in debt is
neither here nor there if Aika's paying.
Aika watches on all the while, and thinks over how she cannot
drop out as victory means proving herself to her fiancé. Sakuya
appears, with the fiancé in tow - he says that he could no
longer call Aika spineless after her night in the jungle. Aika
drops out. Yukiji is now in heavy debt. XD
10 Word Summary!
"Sakuya and Yukiji try to wrap up the competition. Debt"
Not sure on the remaining six... Izumi was still in the game
last we heard, not sure on Chiharu or Kayura (don't believe
either have dropped out though), and we've not had confirmation
on if Yukiji pressed her Completer yet. But we're down to six,
so for now...
LEVEL 5 COMPETITORS (6 total remaining)
Hayate Ayasaki
Nagi Sanzenin
Hinagiku Katsura
Chiharu Harukaze (?)
Kayura Tsurugino (?)
Miki Hanabishi
Izumi Segawa (?)
Risa Asakaze
Aika Kasumi
Kotetsu Segawa
Yukiji Katsura (?)
Isumi Saginomiya
Koutarou Azumamiya

Focus on Rin this time, with her adorable, long-lasting
friendship with Sayo threatened by the suggestion that Rin
should apply to a less lenient high school. It was a pretty
enjoyable episode all-in-all - Rin and Sayo make me smile,
Hiroshi Kamiya returned as guest seiyuu and came across very
relatable (and Koyomi is basically his normal voice XD), and we
got to see not only Café Donguri and its big parfait thing, but
Hinagiku appeared in the background at the café! No idea why
they decided to show her there when she's student council
president at Hakuou, but... yay Hina!

At long last, chapter 507 is here! Seems Ad Astra Per Aspera is
a monthly serialisation, so no worries on it taking up too much
HnG time.
That said, this chapter starts off with Hayate and Sakuya
discussing what he'll do if he wins the money and if he'll leave
Nagi, with talk of the two of them (Hayate/Nagi, I mean) lacking
love. Which... is fine, because they're not a romantic pairing.
I just trust Hata does this well if they're supposed to end up
together...
Sakuya also mentions Mikado drawing close to deciding his
successor, and that Hisui is a strong candidate. Hisui is greedy
and wants everything. Nagi will be broke - truly - if Hisui
wins, so Nagi needs to win to continue living her normal, happy
life.
Elsewhere, Izumi asks Hinagiku what she'd do if she won the
money. Hina bluffs that she'd give it to someone in need, and
then asks Izumi the same question. Izumi says she'd give it to
Hayate, which freaks Hina out - she points out that Hayate would
probably stop being a butler and may even leave Hakuou, but
Izumi cheerily states that he'd never leave Nagi. Pondering
this, Hina wonders if it's even worth her winning, if Hayate
would still be unavailable for romance even with the money to
leave his butler job.
Kananiwa reviews the final six candidates, and questions if one
of them is truly capable of opening the path. Hayate then
appears, having heard that, and asks her if she can begin the
final challenge immediately.
10 Word Summary!
"Muddled ship-teasing, Hisui's intentions explained, and the
final challenge looms."

Hayate Ayasaki

Final two episodes! Earphones concert! Ryoko Shiraishi (and odd
HnG-as-an-anime references)! Injured Ichigo foot! Erm... hard to
really review these properly, but they were sweet episodes and
they concluded the show nicely. It's been fun! And insightful.

Hayate blackmails Kananiwa with a recording of her saying she
launched terrorists on the students. :P (Also, he's not
interested in old ladies; she's only 28. :P) He basically gets
her to initiate the final challenge now, and to take part in it
with her King's Jewel on the line.
With the competitors - minus Nagi, who's not bothered about the
money - gathered, Hayate explains that they're playing Reverse
Old Maid. Whoever ends up with the Joker wins. It's a game of
luck - so even Kayura and Izumi have a chance. XD If Nagi were
here, her luck would have her win, but this is a level playing
field.
Anyway, Izumi has a terrible poker-face, and Hina's too smart to
fall for Kayura's trick. Now Hayate has to try and pluck the
Joker from Hina...

Chapter 509! And Hayate's got a way of winning - bad luck! In a
normal game of Old Maid, it all comes down to who's unlucky
enough to wind up with the Joker, so he's planned the game as
such and made sure to happen to lose his passport to gain that
winning edge. XD
Then, basically, everyone else uses their bad luck too (except
Kayura, who can read Izumi's face easily XD), and after over
four hours of game play, Hayate and Hinagiku are the only two
left... Hina runs out of bad luck, and even her poor luck in her
love life doesn't seem to be enough. Hayate wins (though that's
not shown explicitly, only basically confirmed in the closing
text).
10 Word Summary!
"Bad luck leads to an hilarious card game; Hayate victory."

So... almost a month on, an actual final episode of Sore ga
Seiyuu, Miyu Matsuki (Isumi's seiyuu) sadly passing away, and
then finally, on Hayate's birthday, a new chapter is uploaded!
Not that I got to it until today.
And it starts off so normally...
Nagi dreams about her relationship with Hayate, questioning if
he'd be with her without the debt. She wakes up to find the
completer number down to 2. Just her and one other! Which, of
course, is Hayate. He's talking with Kananiwa all the while,
giving her back the blackmail recording and the King's Jewel.
However, she remarks that, when her boyfriend broke up with her
ten years ago, she tried to use her despair to open the path to
the Royal Garden... and her part in the Old Maid game has proven
to her that her despair wasn't real. She decides to learn about
love from a new boyfriend, and gives Hayate back the stone.
Nagi appears, Hayate explains the situation, and Hinagiku thinks
how Hayate will press his completer and all will be back to
normal.
Except Hayate presses Nagi's completer.
Hayate wins the money, and immediately uses it to pay off his
debt to Nagi... but he tells her that he will stay with her.
However... we're reminded that their is a bomb between them, and
that the path to the Royal Garden is opened with an explosion of
negative emotion.
Methinks Nagi will soon learn that Hayate doesn't love her...
10 Word Summary!
"Nagi loves Hayate, but holy crap, the debt's paid off!"
I must admit, I'm a little concerned here. It feels like we're
treading into endgame territory here. Hopefully we can still get
a few more years out of all of this, but between the month's gap
and the sudden paying off of the debt (not to mention the
obvious set up in Nagi's heartbreak opening the Royal Garden
path), it feels almost like we're preparing for the finale. I
sincerely hope not - I mean, we have seemingly have three more
months in-story. And we've not heard from Ruri in a while...
hopefully, we'll get a wrap on the Level 5 trip arc, and then
get some other stuff going on, rather than diving straight into
the Royal Garden and so on.
Though it all depends on how many ideas Hata's still got going
on in his head. The existence of Ad Astra Per Aspera feels a
little like he didn't want to just dive into that and bump off
Hayate no Gotoku, but that he's got more passion for that now
than HnG. Or maybe that's me imposing my own writing issues. :P
-Sore ga Seiyuu bonus-
Excuse me for making this brief, as it's been a few weeks... I
only realised this was a 13-episode run when I stumbled upon
screenshots from episode 13 on the wiki. So, what tops a stellar
Earphones performance? Something much more dramatic - Futaba
being put under the immense pressure of having to pass an
interview to become a permanent member of Aozora Productions.
And, well, she basically wings it. She manages to prove that,
even if she's not very good, she's ambitious and determined.
She's given another year to improve before either being signed
up or rejected. We also have some stuff with Ichigo becoming a
strawberry mascot for a new supermarket(?), and Rin managing to
get herself into a new school. Oh, and speaking of Rin, she has
an epic new haircut in the flashforward at the end. :P Which
leads to more surprises for our protagonist trio!
Oh, and must note, there's a café called Royal Garden. I wonder
if that's set up after our more infamous Royal Garden finally
collapses? ;)

Chapter 511, eleven years of serialisation, and Hayate is...
Completely unchanged! He's still intending on getting Maria some
hotel toilet paper and Ayumu some sand as souvenirs. :P He
insists that people who pay off their debts and then start
spending casually wind up with twice the debt. He doesn't want
to go back into gag manga territory and be lumbered with 300
million yen. All the while, Yukiji is stressing out about her 28
million yen debt, even though Chiharu and Kayura point out that
it's all her fault. (Barefoot!) Hinagiku ponders her situation
now - Hayate is still with Nagi, but his debts are paid
off now... she isn't sure what to do next.
Hayate and Nagi discuss their sight-seeing in the Grand Canyon,
the final part of the trip. Kananiwa explains that it would've
been the final challenge; Yukiji appears and insists upon a
final game, one more chance at getting the money. Hayate
refuses, but Kananiwa notes that there is 10 million yen hidden
in the Grand Canyon anyway, the goal of that final challenge.
Everyone gets fired up over this and Kananiwa okays them taking
on the challenge, with Nagi assuring Hayate that his money is
safe. However, he notices that Yukiji isn't commenting on the 10
million prize not being enough to pay off her debts, and the
narrator suggests that Hayate has become careless now. Nagi then
wonders where Ruri is.
And as Sakuya phones Mikado to update him on events, Mikado
warns that an assassin may be lurking to take the stone, as we
see Ruri in the Grand Canyon.

"Hayate is still being cheap, but the game's not over..."

Chapter 512 sees Chiharu lost in the Grand Canyon. Like,
seriously lost. No idea where she is, no other people around
(and after Kananiwa had suggested playing psychological games on
the challenge), and with her Completer doing nothing.
Eventually, she finds Ruri... who is also lost and useless. XD
They begin scaling a cliff to get a higher view of the area,
during which Chiharu also gets a view of Ruri's panties.
They get to the top eventually, and still have no idea where
they are. :P
10 Word Summary!
"Chiharu gets lost, Ruri is cute, and a little yuri-teasing."
I'm thinking Chiharu is bi. I can't think of any other clearly
bisexual anime characters, and Chiharu shown interest (of some
manner) in both sexes. Yay for bi-Chiharu! :P

Chapter 513 is a lesson in money!
I'm basically going to sum it up as gag manga territory, with
Hayate, Nagi and the Student Council Trio encountering various
money-ensnaring traps which Izumi blows through in her sweet
ignorance. :P Oh, and now she's 20 million yen down, has the
ultimate chance to win 2 trillion (or be down that much)... and
Maria's the final boss. XD

Ugh, such slow releases... chapter 514.
So, Maria's there because she was bored in Japan. She explains
that the roulette game can only be played once, using the 2
billion yen coin hidden in this cave. Nagi points out to Hayate
that, with Maria throwing the ball in after the money is laid
down, she's basically guaranteed to win and so the player fails.
That doesn't stop Yukiji, though, or Hina and Isumi who reason
that you can't know until you play. They all head off, and find
that the entrance fee is 1 million yen. XD Chiharu and Ruri turn
up, and Ruri quickly uses another ATM machine to get some money
out.
They soon find a large domed room, with Miki, Izumi and Risa
already there. They point out that the coin is suspended from
the ceiling, and the only way to get to it is... exchanging wads
of money for bricks to pile up. Yukiji uses her debt card,
asking everyone to chip in and she'll take on their debts. They
eventually manage to get the coin, and Yukiji then reveals that
she has Hayate's passport. She'll give it back, if Nagi is the
one to play the roulette game - after all, she's good at
gambling.

"Money flies about like leaves on the wind; game on!"

Chapter 515 is primarily about Nagi trying to manipulate the
game so that she can win. And she does. So yay. :P Won't sum it
all up because it's a lot of suggestions and strategizing, but
Nagi takes all of the winnings besides the debts paid off (and a
little tax for Yukiji), and Hayate starts to doubt that Nagi
even needs him (which is kind of a pointless addition on the
final page XD).
36 billion yen. Not bad for a single spin at roulette!
10 Word Summary!
