So they try not to get caught. It's a very, very interesting
challenge. : It's so fascinating. : And then, well, this is a
great example of machine learning, which now has its own. It was
developed in collaboration with , and . They track vessels over
a certain size, requiring a position signal every second that
can be used to determine if a vessel is fishing illegally in a
protected area, and they are also.
Able to track when one vessel transfers its catch to another. :
I naively think what's fascinating about these stories is,
before talking to you, my perception of what your organization
does is I just don't know the scale of something like this.
Everything you've said to me sounds like scale. Davido: Yes. One
area I'm really interested in is timescales. Often, we do
conservation work and monitor to make sure we're having the
impact we want at the time. But sometimes it can take years for
the conservation.

Work you do to have an impact, just because we're dealing with
things like how fast can a tree grow? How fast is the population
growing? These are long-term endeavors, so such timescales are
also interesting; e.g., can we develop systems that can be
effectively tracked especially given that funding for projects
often ends before the impact of the project becomes.
