Gonna sell the majority of my comic collection

I know some of you have liquidated collections in the past, do
you have any advice? Should I just go the ebay route or check
with some local shops?

I sold quite a few of my collections on Ebay back before I moved
to Indiana a couple years ago. Sold them as sets because I
didn't want random issues of every title sitting about. Some of
them I did pretty decent on and others I got burned on; but I
did get rid of most of what I tried to. Also sold some of it on
the old board.
Looking to get rid of the rest of it soon myself. Going to try
and bring the big, older stuff (Batman, Green Lantern, Flash) at
least to a comic store and see what they offer.

Why are you selling ?
Jack , why would you sell the rest ? especially if it's the good
stuff (don't know what you have , big older stuff implies
decent collection)
my current collection is only about 4000 comics or so , since
the Nu52 I'm pretty much out of collecting , but I plan to keep
it all...
comic stores are like car dealerships , almost no matter what
you have , they're gonna say it's not worth much , unless your
comic shop has known you for a long time , he might help you
out. I've sold stuff more than once during the last recession
(decades back) , I needed to eat , but I still miss those books
...
I remember buying Batman and the Outsiders when Jack sold some
of his stuff . depending on what you have...
Only advice I can give is to make sure , really sure you want to
sell it , and if you do get at least close to what you paid for
it. Ebay might be good for sets , with minimum bids that cover
how much you'd be happy with , sometimes they just don't sell
though....
If you talk Titans, maybe we can talk turkey ;D

The collection is just too big and hard to manage. Keeping the
stuff that is dear to my heart like the Teen Titans books and
some stories like A Death In the Family. Also JLA vol 1 is
staying. I've got everything on disc now and it's just so much
easier to get to and takes up way less space.

Same here. I have most of my comics on disc now and it takes up
much less space. Just don't feel the need to hang onto the hard
copies anymore. The good stuff is complete runs of Batman,
Flash; and GL from around '65 to 2010 when I stopped collecting.
Most of my other sets are complete too, but not worth as much.

I have thought about doing this but I still love owning tangible
things I can hold. I still miss records.

I am really torn over it. It's just really came down to an
issue of space. I'm starting to feel like one of those hoarder
people.

How did you get everything on disc? I honestly don't need to
feel the comic in my hand. Space is an issue and digital seems
a logical choice to me. Also, what did you do with the hard
copies?

I downloaded every thing off bitsnoop in torrents and then
transferred it to disc. Just make sure you have good anti virus
protection like Norton. If you lookup DC Comics Chronology
you'll find what you're looking for. I've still got my comics.
Haven't gotten motivated enough to list them on ebay.

When I finally got all my comics cataloged in a software app, I
put aside some stuff that I really wasn't going to miss. I ended
up giving about three boxes of comics away to a charity I knew
would give them to sick kids, etc.
Why don't you try that with the stuff you won't get much for and
see how you feel? If you regret getting rid of it you can hold
it there. If not, look at selling some. Divide it into several
lots and that way you've got cutoff points.
