Ender's Game

You know this movie looks like the kind of movie I would
probably see, but the fact that Card is the author of the source
material insures I won't. Just can't stand the thought of one
cent of my money going into that assholes pocket. This is one
boycott I'll gladly join. Everyone has the right to their
beliefs or opinions, and we all also have the right to support
or not support people when they make their opinions known.

I don't know his opinions, but personally I don't like the idea
of boycotting something because of someone's beliefs whether
they're valid or not. Punishing people for their feelings on any
issue is just a form of censorship and inhibits free speech. And
I think all people should be allowed their opinions and should
be allowed to make them known as long as it isn't in an
inflammatory manner without fear of repercussion. Just my two
cents.

But his opinions and statements are inflamatory to an entire
subset of people. It's more than a little hurtful to hear his
views and knowing he's on boards that work to deny equality to
others makes him shit to me. I'm hoping this movie bombs and he
recieves all the blame for it.

Just looked and while gay marriage is a hot button issue at the
moment, if we went around boycotting everyone who's made a
sexist, racist comment I think we'd end up boycotting everyone.
I think the biggest problem with people today is everyone is too
caught up with what other people say or think and too busy
throwing stones. If Paula Dean says the N word or Chris Rock
makes his umpteenth cracker joke we should just all take a step
back and realize everyone in the world is never going to like
everyone else. And by making them pretend to doesn't change
anything, just makes more hypocrites. My personal opinion is
love who you want, hate who you want; just don't go around
making others feel like **** over it. Looking at his comments
though, they do look extreme.
But remember, he's only the writer and there are tons of other
people involved who stand to lose out over a boycott, which
wouldn't exactly be fair to them. I say if you like something,
you should see it regardless if someone involved is an **** (Mel
Gibson comes to mind) because boycotting them is a losing effort
anyway. I'm sure there are bigger ****s who hide what they
think; that we support all the time.
I dunno. I probably don't make any sense. lol.

I think there's a big difference between Paula Deen who was
being honest about something she said 30 years ago and
apologized profusely for it and Card who has never took a step
back from his views much less apologize for them. The movie has
already been made. The people involved have been paid for their
efforts. The only ones liable to lose money is the studio and
you know what fuck it. If an awesome movie like the Lone Ranger
can do terrible box office and the studio survives that, then
the studio that made Ender's game can survive if it bombs too.
And I agree with they are a lot of fucking hypocrites that I
support with my dollars, but when they open that big trap of
theirs and do something or say something I find abhorent and
never try and make it right then they no longer see any of my
hard earned money. There's quite a few stars that I've turned
my back on and just won't support. And it ranges from things
like trashing our country over seas (Dixie Skanks), treason
(Jane Fonda) and homophobia and racism (Orson Scott Card). I've
never felt quite at home politically with either of the two main
parties and that's why I'm a Libertarian. Again I believe
everyone has the right to speak their minds and express their
opionions, but they shouldn't cry like a little bitch when
others out there that also have free will and opinions choose
not to support them any more.
