Windrider
Story One: The Call to Action
Chapter One: Windrider
Damara was created by L.B.
Northern Khur
East of the Skyfire Mountains,
Inath Wakenti, the Elven Refuge
General Damara Ambrodel is soaring high through the sky, aback
her loyal griffon mount, Sovereign, over the mountains in
northern Khur. On patrol in a wide circle around the valley of
Inath Wakenti.
She volunteered for the patrol to get up in the sky. She has had
less time to fly since her promotion. She served during the
years leading up to the War of the Lance, to that war’s
completion. After her time served, she left the military and
opened a tavern in New Ports. Seems like an age ago, I guess it
was. The Overlords changed her mind. But the political climate
turned her stomach.
Damara had never been a fan of Porthios. Her family came from a
long line stretching back to the Kinslayer Wars in the second
age. They were a family of loyalty, duty, and service.
Her family stood by every speaker in an unbroken line going back
to Kith Kanan. So, when Reyl Konnel got the Sun medallion away
from Porthios and gave it to Senetor Rashas to give to Gilthas,
the son of Laurana and Tanis, her family was in a bind, and soon
exiled after her father, the loyal elder statesman, protested
the sanity of the coup plotters and tried to appeal to the
people. Damara got him out of jail before his execution.
Exiles. That was new. Her father took it with a grain of salt.
He had served the Qulainesti crown, boy and man, to old man. His
father and mother travel a little -Northern Ergoth, Solamnia,
before ending up living with The Druid Talidaar for a time, as
Lashia was married to Talidaar by now, and family. Eventually,
her mother and father would move into New Ports and take over
her Inn, the Roaring Griffon. The launching point of many an
adventure.
Damara sought out Porthios and Alhana in the Khur badlands.
Eventually, Damara found the exiles. And so, she kept them on
the move. Never sleep in the same place. It was a miserable
time. She barely gained much insight into Porithios, only that
he was a massive tool. Staying with the Druid was a mistake that
almost ended in a fight. Thank the gods for Alhana; if he didn’t
have her, he wouldn’t have anybody.
She has seen an increase in Blue Dragon activity. At one point,
she is followed. Damara is an old pro. They escape, but it gets
tense for a while.
Still, this is more aggressive than normal. Something's up.
Flying with even more awareness. They duck into a forest and
wait out the Dragon Maneuvers. Later, they make their way to
Inath Wakenti. She speaks with the Generals and Speaker Gilthas
right away.
Note: Damara shares history with a lot of Elves in Qualinesti,
and Talidaar, Lashia, and the Twins. A character from my first
campaign in 1991.

Chapter Two: War Council

Northern Khur
East of the Skyfire Mountains,
Inath Wakenti, the Elven Refuge
Speaker Gilthas looks over at each of his War Staff.
General of the Army General Hamaramis
General of the Wildrunners General Taranath
General of the Windriders General Damara
General Taranath, General of the Wildrunners, gives his report-
“The Dark Knight Garrison in Khuri-Khan has increased for the
last five months. They number 4,500 knights, more are set to
arrive in the coming weeks.”
“General Damara?” The Speaker asks.
“Great Speaker, we have sighted at least thirty Blue Dragons,
but there is no telling how many more may be hidden away,”
Damara replies.
Gilthas asks for General Hamarami's assessment.
“Great Speaker, this is a prelude to war. This is way more than
rattling our cage. I suggest we don’t let any more troops join
this army in our south. We need to eliminate them.” Hamaramis
says.
“If they have Dragon Air cover, it will be a suicide mission,”
Damara observes.
Taranath looks at the detailed map of the region before them.
“We could stir up the Giants we know are in this pass right
here.” He points to Pass on the other side of the Hundred Mile
Road. We time it in the night while they are camped on the road.
We stir up them up and lead them to the Knights.”
They all study the map.
Gilthas asks, “Can it be done?”
The Generals look at each other, thinking it through.
The three of them say “Yes”
Speaker Gilthas appreciates the daring idea but looks back to
Khuri-Khan. “What about the army in place already? The Military
leaders look back at the map.
“One thing for sure, we have to even the odds or the battle is
over before it begins. We have to renew our ties with the good
dragons that came and helped us in a march to Sanction.” General
Damara says. “Windriders are not going to hold off thirty
Dragons. The Good Dragons didn’t save us before just for us to
fall now, we need to find them and ask for aid."
“Where would we find them?” Speaker Gilthas asks.
“We will have to find them somehow Great Speaker.” Damara
answers.
Gilthas nods and then asks about the forces arrayed at
Khuri-Khan.
The Generals give some thought to the matter. General Hamaramis
relays information to the Speaker. “Our reports from Khuri-Khan
tell us The Dark Knights are being tolerated at the moment. It
will take several incidents to rile up the populace.”
Speaker Gilthas absorbs the information and thinks through what
must be done. “Begin at once.

Wildrunner Subcommander Hythanas Ambrodel’s team will be

“Listen, little brother, every time they ask for “volunteers” I
wish you were not the first one to put your hand up.” A
concerned General Damara tells her younger sibling.
“I’ll be okay Damara. The plan is a good one.” Subcommander
Hythanas answers.
“I’m sure your new wife took it well.” Damara counters.
“Well, that didn’t go so well. The younger Ambrodel answers
truthfully.
“I’m putting you with Subcommander Elara, one of my best
Windriders. She understands the Mission, just be there to get
picked up.”
“I will, I will, I promise. Just make sure you get the Good
Dragons to help, or it's all for naught anyways.” Hythanas says.
Damara looks at her younger brother for what may be the final
time and gives him a deep hug. “Get to the extraction point
Hythanas. Don’t make me have to go looking for you, because you
know I will.”
The siblings separate and go their separate ways. General Damara
sets out on her Griffon, Sovereign, on a mission to find the

Chapter Four Flight
General Damra and her loyal steed Sovereign soar through the sky
on a western course, away from the Dragon-filled skies of
Neraka. They are skirting the New Sea. It has been a week since
she left the Vale, and her younger sibling on an insane plan
that may get him killed. She has whispered a prayer to the
goddess Miskhal. She has never been the overly religious type,
but the number of the population of elves is frightfully low,
and we need all the help we can get. So, she says a prayer for
her brother that he may succeed and come home safely.
She had told the Speaker she did not know where to look for the
Good Dragons, but he assured her she would find them.
She has done some thinking on the trip about where to try first.
She might comb everywhere in Solamnia and not find any, then
what? It will be over by then. So, what’s the answer?
She directs Sovereign Southwest. She will ask her
brother-in-law, Talidaar. She knows Las and Marilee ventured to
the Dragon Isles many years ago. They may know something about
where to turn next.

In less than a week, General Damara flies into an area she knows
well, for she was born in Qualinost during the dark years after
the Cataclysm. Her tavern, The Roaring Griffon, was the site of
many beginnings and endings of adventures. She remembers the
times fondly and turns Sovereign toward Merwellyn.
Griffon and rider make a flawless landing outside Dae
Dyrnastaerynfalos, Talidaar’s keep.
Talidaar and Lashia come outside, concerned that something has
happened.
Damara tells them that a Dark Knight army is forming in Khur.
“Thirty Chromatic Dragons that we know about. They are lining up
to attack Inath Wakenti.”
Talidaar and Lashia look at each other and then tell Damara she
needs to come inside.
Being filled in about the Black Brood threat, Talidaar tells her
that Marilee was shot down. Damara stops him and asks if she is
okay. Talidaar tells her that Marilee is healing. It was
life-threatening; she almost didn’t make it. “We got lucky. The
Lioness was a huge help.” Talidaar finishes.
Damara goes to see Marilee and holds her tightly to her. Damara
never made time for a relationship or children of her own So the
Twins served that void in her life, being exceptionally close
with Marilee, Griffon riders, you know. A tight fraternity.

Northern Qualinesti, and after a few minute,s they come across a
Windrider they know. They ask to be taken to Orexas/Porthios
The Sisters are brought to Orexas. He is in the back, going over
battle plans.
“How appropriate. Your Husband is talking to my wife right now.
Couldn’t come to me. Had to go through my Wife. What kind of Man
is that?”
Lashia just smiles, “Because he wanted to talk to someone that
can use logic. You can’t talk logically with a Fanatic.”
Porthios nods his head, "then it's about a peace plan with the
Goblins. The Goblins Damara. Tell me you think we should make
peace with them, stand there, and let me hear you say it. “
“I think you are going to have this temper tantrum, and we are
going to stand here and let you get it all out of your system”
Damara answers. His digs mean nothing to her.
“So, why are you here Damara Ambrodel? why are you in Qualinesti
when you stayed behind in Inath-Wakenti?” He walks around the
table. “Why are you here? “
“I am here because There is a large Army massing in Khur. Dark
Knights. at least 4500. Thirty Dragons. I am going to the Dragon
Isles to get help from the Good Dragons. The Elves need help
Porthios. This is an Army gathering for one reason, that is to
wipe us out. What is more important right now than that?”
Porthios laughs. “Fool. He has the Elves surrounded out there
in that blasted Valley.”
“That Valley has the last of us there Porthios, when are you
going to start hearing me? We need Reinforcements.”
Porthios asks why she is still “standing there if that’s all she
has to say. I mean I haven’t heard you say that Gilthas sent you
to me to get my help. You are supposed to be getting Dragons,
why are you still talking to me?”
“You haven’t changed, you are still a piece of ****,” Damara
says to the high and mighty elflord.
“What did you just say to me you Harlot?” Porthios asks, coming
closer
Lashia tries to defuse things, “Talidaar is going to attack the
Black Brood on Mt. Thelalan. He was going to ask you to help
him assault the Mountain with him.
“And we are back to him using you to talk to me. Orexas/Porthios
comments.
Damara just can not stand the way Porthios talks to her Sister,
with contempt. Damara throws a punch, but Porthios catches it.
“I’ve learned,” Porthios says to her.
“No, you really haven’t.” Damara throws another into his
midsection. He lets go of Damara’s right and backs up doubled
over.
“Don’t” he gets out as he is sucking for air.
Damara advances and then she hears Talidaar say her name
"Damara". She stops and backs away from the Masked Elf Prince.
Talidaar walks between the gathering Wildrunners and walks to
the masked Elf Prince. “Porthios, I do want to talk to you, I’m
going to need your help, but I have one more favor to ask my
Wife.”
"Can you take me to her?"
Lashia looks to the sky and decides they can do it. Lashia tells
Damara that "she will be right back.”
The Next Moment, Talidaar and Lashia are gone from the Elven

Chapter Seven: The Queen of the Elves
Southwestern Ansalon
The Elven Rebel Fort in Northern Qualinesti
The situation is tense when the Lioness flies in, back from
patrol. She hears about the altercation before she reaches the
Fort. She searches out Damara and finds her drinking a tankard
of Spirits. Damara explains herself to the Queen of the Elves.
She explains how she told Porthios that there was an impending
attack on Inath-Wakenti. She is waiting for Lashia to arrive
before setting out to the Dragon Isles.
The Lioness hears enough to know what she needs to do. She
calls out for everyone’s attention.
“Defenders of the Elven Nation, I call upon any volunteers that
will be willing to return to Inath-Wakenti with me to defend the
Nation with me.”
Orexas- Porthios watches as nearly all volunteer to go back with
the Lioness.
Damara steps forward and says “We will teleport you back here
when the fighting is over, should we prevail. But I won’t lie to
you, we face a large Dark Knight Army and Many Evil Dragons. I
travel tomorrow to the Dragon Isles to bring the Good Dragons to
fight. But you should know that A Draconian Army is holed up on
Mt. Thelalan and the Druid Talidaar is going to face them. To
get them to leave or destroy them. He will need help, some of
you need to help him.
Orexas looks to his wife, from who he gains clarity and
stability by her presence alone. He thinks the matter through
and nods to the Lioness.
Soon Lashia returns to the Elven Fort with allies from the Tower
of High Sorcery.
A portal is created that sends the Volunteers Wildrunners and
Windriders and mounts to Inath-Wakenti in Northern Khur.
Once the Lioness says her Goodbyes and she and her proud griffon
mount and travel through the Portal.
The Portal Closes and the Wizards leave to go back to the Tower
in Wayreath.
Two dozen Wildrunners and Winderider remain at the Fort, along
with Alhana, Samar, Orexas-Porthios, Damara, and Lashia.
Portios finally comes over to the sisters. He asks Lashia “if
Marilee is okay.”
The sisters hear a different note in the Elf Prince’s voice. One
of genuine concern.
Lashia updates Porthios on her condition. “She is healed and is
healing. You know a rider never gets over their mount’s death.
She is leading us to the Dragon Isles.” Porthios nods, and says
that he’s “glad that she lives to fight again.”
Just then Talidaar the Hierophant of Chislev arrives. Lashia
smiles and runs to him. “Did she come?” She asks. Talidaar tells
her the Black Robe Master is here. Then he tells her “She needs
to be off to get some sleep before setting out tomorrow.” Lashia
nods and gives him a last kiss. She walks to her sister and
readies a spell.
Porthios tells the sisters that He honors them for their
commitment to the Elven People. “I may not like how you do
things, but you get it done. He bows his head them.
The sisters look at each other, then nod their heads back to
him, Lashia gives a last look at Talidaar, and the sisters
