Behind the DM Screen Vol. I
DIR By: Dungeon Master
Date: July 25, 2023, 7:17 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Still in the early stages of setting things up for these
stories. as I told my players, I had to open mores stories to
get all of the knights, all of the bishops, all of the kings and
queens in place, and position all my pawns for whats coming.
the reason why I have set up such a huge canvas is for a couple
of reasons. One, The Epic Characters and their adjacent circles
operate on a much bigger scale, so in lieu of a massive
continent changing campaign, I'm running several smaller
regional campaigns that can be region changing.
What does the Porthios's smile mean? Is he really that ruthless.
I think it could be interrupted several ways. I tried to leave
it ambiguous. Lets face it. He would trade a hundred thousand
daughters to get what he wants, but did he really have anything
to do with it? I try to leave you with enough doubt that maybe
you could believe he would do it. or it just could be that after
40 years the Druid has sat there in his little Forest and
nothing could move him, and Porthios's just smiled because this
would mean Talidaar will enter the fray and that is reason
enough for him to smile.
I will say this. Writing the words-Half-Human really digs the
knife in and illustrates the terribleness of the High Elves. I
haven't written in the context of the 4th Age in a while. What a
different place.
Writing the War to Retake Qualinesti/Talidaar crosover, even
though it was convoluted, it was a story that came together
naturally and quickly. I have been trying to write a coherent
history of Talidaar for a very long time. Writing all these
stories in quick succession made writing his past in a coherent
story gave me a new appreciation for how far that character has
came.
His wandering period, Chislev's call,The circle of Merwellyn,
life with his love, the birth of his children-The Twins
Marilee,Las and a son. Death of his first Wife Kira, His career
within the inner circle, Druid, Archdruid, Great Druid, Grand
Druid of Krynn, Getting married to his old close friend Lashia(A
Wizardess Windrider, Lashia was best friend's with Kira from
childhood. One of the twins was named Las, after Lashia. She was
their godmother. After the death of her best friend, she became
as a mother to the the twins and Nebriss) Later, Talidaar and
Lashia would have children of their own Daera for a girl (in
honor of Damara) in 377 AC and Sator for a boy (for Rotas) in
382 AC
I have been wanting to tell these Karnea stories for twenty
years. This is on the biggest stage on Krynn with the biggest
players on the Magical scene. Three women in the big chairs. I
think it will be a good dynamic between Karnea, Jenna, and Coryn
, one based on respect.
Trying to fix any spelling and punctuation errors.
With the Goblins and Draconians I have tried to give them
different levels of intelligence, syntax differences, and just
tried to shape the conversations as non humans might speak. Very
influenced by the Dark Crystal Skeksis for the Draconians and
for some of the goblins. for instance King Agog. Very
intelligent for a Goblin.
I think Nuitari became my favorite Dragonlance Deity in the Dark
Disciple Trilogy and I think Nuitari and Karnea make a wonderful
dark partnership. I hope I am doing him justice.

Thoughts on Dalamar The Dark
DIR By: Dungeon Master

---------------------------------------------------------
I'm sure reading the Karnea stories, you at some point wonder,
does this guy hate Dalamar The Dark? Not at all. He is a
favorite character. So how can I treat him like this? I think
the stories lays out the justifications for booting him from the
post of Master of the Black Robe. He lost the faith of the Gods
of Magic, and the Black Robes took the betrayal personally. He's
young yet. Plenty of time to lead the black robe in the future.
My feeling is he needs to be in the doghouse for a while, in
politics, they call it going out into the wilderness (to find
their way). He will play a important part down the road in
future stories.

Recharing batteries, will post again in a couple of days

---------------------------------------------------------
Hello from behind the DM screen.
Greetings. Just recharging my batteries and getting some sleep
recently. The Gathering of Black Robes at Nuitari's High
Sanction is written, just waiting for Karnea's player and I to
be able to game it. Should be this week. I will post things
after we game, and I will fill in what happened.
I will be posting more this week. Kind of ran myself down a bit
last couple of weeks. Spending a few days figuring some plot
stuff out.
Also thinking how I can collect the Falling Story into a
cohesive collected story instead of having to jump back and
forth.
Thank you all for coming by to enjoy the stories.

My love for Dragonlance
DIR By: Dungeon Master
Date: August 3, 2023, 6:20 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
For this Behind the DM's screen, I am going to comment on
Dragonlance. My first Dragonlance novels were the Elven Nations
Trilogy. I instantly fell in love with everything about the
world. It would be later when I read Chronicles, and immediately
Legends. I was hooked for life. Gaming in the days of the 90s, I
had no interest in gaming the War of the Lance over. I had my
Dragonlance Adventures book I started my campaigns in 360 AC and
charted my own course. Subpar Dragonlance products did not
support the world as it deserved. I loved the Taladas Boxed set,
but it wasn't enough. Tales of the Lance Boxed set did not have
Margaret or Tracy’s involvement at all. The Dwarven Nations of
Krynn boxed set was an excellent product.
Everything was fine, but the timeline was not moving forward.
Eternally spinning our gears.
Second Generation and Dragons of a Summer Flame at least pushed
the timeline forward, but where it took us, it was just
devastating.
The 5th Age
I never played a Saga game, but I bought nearly all the
products. I am not happy with what they did to the world, but at
least the timeline was moving ahead. I tried to make lemonade
out of lemons and rolled through the changes.
See, in real life, crap happens in the world that we don’t want
to happen, but we have to accept it.
That is how I treated the 5th Age.
No, none of us wanted this, but this was what was happening to
the world.
I am not a fan of Dragonlance Sorcery or Mysticism. It is a
shortcut that makes obsolete the years of training and rules of
spell memorization, um no. I tolerated it for twenty years, but
with the coming of a new trilogy, all of that changed.
The War of Souls was one of the greatest things to happen to
Dragonlance. I am glad to not have to tell a story of Takhisis
taking over the world again.
The exiling of the Elven Nations was the best thing that could
have happened to them.
Even if the new novels reset things, this might be one canon
story I can’t abide by. Charting the growth of the civilizations
of Krynn to this point with long-term characters has made it all
worth it. I have no interest in going back and changing things.
This is how the dice have been cast, these are the cards we have
been dealt.
Truly this world has been opened to our imaginations.

Behind the DM Screen: The Black Brood
DIR By: Dungeon Master
Date: August 4, 2023, 7:13 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
I found the Black Brood in the Unofficial Handbook to
Draconians, by Weldon Chen. They were the perfect anti Kang
villains.
I used them in the battles with Elves and Mercenary companies
before the Storm, and the War of Souls.
Now we see them up against Talidaar. Are they playing a long
game or are things true?
Upcoming story chapters for Hierophant , The Black Brood, Damara
the Windrider, A new Topic story called Wildrunner in the Inath
Wakenti section.
For Karnea a Chapter of the day after the High Sanction. all has
left, except those few that was asked to stay. Also the promised
one on One meeting with Coryn Brinefellow at Nightlund. (She has
only just made some inroads into completely taking over the
tower, but she is blocked from certain rooms. She is by no means
in full control of the Tower yet. This is a brave front.)
I'm including here what I have drawn inspiration from for them
Fortress around the Island. The Real world ancient city Tyre. I
do not see the island covered with buildings, but some at the
port. perhaps some quarters will build up.
When I say defensible. besides walls, there are devices similar
to Claws of Archimedes at the port.

Behind the DM Screen In the story of Wildrunner-
DIR By: Dungeon Master

---------------------------------------------------------
Behind the DM Screen
In the story of Wildrunner-
Subcommander Hythanas Ambrodel is a real character that last
showed up in Book Three of the Elven Exiles. I had been using
Ambrodel for Damara’s last name since we started gaming. The
Elven Nations Trilogy had a huge effect on me back then. She is
in a position she never thought she would be in, that being
General of the Windriders. A position the Lioness once held in
the Elven Army. (A position she does hold in the Fight to Retake
Qualinesti).
So, their father served in the military when he was younger, and
an ambassador into his elder age.
Damara was the oldest and became a Windrider from a young age.
Followed by Lashia the middle child. Lashia became a mage and
the family was not happy with this life choice. The surprise
youngest child Hythanas followed his father's footsteps into the
army and the prestigious Wildrunners.
I am also a fan of Record of the Lodos War and the elf Deedlit's
influences drip into my games.
With Saida, she has not spoken yet in the story, but I saw her
as speaking with her arrows. All the really good shots are her
doing. Like the arrow that had no arrowhead. And the one that
got it in the eye.
Finally, an entrance of a Red Dragon into the game

So a new story opened in the Wizards of High Sorcery
So yes, that will be a ongoing thing that will weave in and out
of The Jenna the Highmage's story. As Wayreth is where we will
see him next in the Highmage story.
The voice will remain a secret until I'm ready to reveal it.

Behind the DM Screen Return to the Dragon Isles
DIR By: Dungeon Master
Date: August 8, 2023, 9:01 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Some Notes about a character that shows up with Las. Captain
Mikal Vardan was a character from the Dragon Isles Novel by
Stephen D Sullivan. Such as fantastic book. The first real look
at this magical land. There are very few novels that I would
break down into modules for my games, but the Dragon Isles was
one of the most amazing and exciting gaming from Modules culled
from a Novel I've ever had.
The Arbagon Twins Marilee and Las joined Mikal Vardan, First
Mate Trippleknot Spellcracker and the rest of the crew and
passengers on the Kingfisher and headed to the Dragon Isles. I'm
working on a collection of those gaming sessions to put out on
the forum. Those will be called the Voyage to the Dragon Isles.
As we are going back to the Dragon Isles, these new stories will
be called Return to the Dragon Isles.
