World of Krynn
Continent of Ansalon
Ansalon is approximately 1300 miles from east to west and 900
miles from north to south. Prior to the Cataclysm, Ansalon was a
solid land mass. Vast plains ran from the lands of Silvanesti in
the east, all the way to Ergoth in the west, and the Blood Sea
was comprised of the farming properties of the Istarians. When
the Cataclysm struck, the face of Krynn was changed
dramatically. Istar was destroyed, and the surrounding lands
were plunged beneath the waves of the newly created Blood Sea.
The minotaur nation was spared, and its lands became islands,
separated from the rest of Ansalon. The northern peninsula was
brought up from the bottom of the ocean, and Ergoth was split
into two separate isles. The vast plains of southern Ergoth and
Solamnia were destroyed and became the New Sea.

Sancrist

HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fb7ZTfkQ3Os
The isle of Sancrist is divided into two main parts. The
northeast of the island is dominated by mountains and is the
home of the gnomes. The gnomes govern that part of the island
from Mount Nevermind. In the southwest lie the plans and
forests. It is here that the Solamnic Knights rule their
territory.
Castle Uth Wistan
The castle is the home of Lord Gunthar Uth Wistan and is the
headquarters of the Knights of Solamnia. Near the castle is the
Whitestone Glade, which is where Vinas Solamnus was inspired to
create the knighthood. It is also where the forces of good met
during the War of the Lance and where the Dragonlance was
returned to Krynn. Just south of the Castle lies the small isle
of Cristyne, which falls under Sancrist's protection. Cristyne
contains little of note, except that its population has swelled
considerably since it is now the home of the refugees fleeing
Southern Ergoth after Gellidus assumed control of that area in
12 SC.
Mount Nevermind
Mount Nevermind is the home to the majority of the gnome race
upon Ansalon. It is governed by a ruling council of gnomes who
attempt to ensure that everything runs smoothly within their
realms, although it never does. When the Solamnic Knights first
came to Sancrist, the gnomes panicked as they assumed they were
about to be invaded. They attempted to make their home disappear
with a new scheme they invented, which naturally backfired. They
came running out of their mountain smelling of rotten eggs. When
the Solamnics asked what was going on and the name of their
mountain, the response was
"webelievethatthismountainisformedfromagmaandlava..." to which
the Solamnic replied "nevermind". The gnomes believed this name
was ingenious and soon adopted it for their home. After the
Second Cataclysm, the Red Dragonlord Pyrothraxus attacked Mount
Nevermind and has since assumed control of it. The gnomes still
inhabit the area, and some of them have turned to guerrilla
tactics in order to try to free their ancestral home from the
dragon, but to no avail.
Ergoth
Ergoth was founded by Ackal Ergot in 2600 PC. At its mightiest
point, the empire of Ergoth spanned most of Ansalon. As Istar
grew in power, Ergoth faded. When Solamnia was declared
independent of Ergoth, the empire declined even more. With the
Cataclysm, the once-mighty Ergoth was split in two, and both
halves of Ergoth became even less important nations on Krynn.
Northern Ergoth

HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrmhPVqGdfc
A mountain range runs down the middle of Northern Ergoth,
separating the forests of the east and the plains of the west.
The western plains are ruled by Emperor Mercadior from the
Ergothian city of Gwynned. Kender inhabit the eastern forests,
which they govern from the port town of Hylo. Ogres and goblins
also inhabit Northern Ergoth and frequently attack both the
human and kender settlements.
Hylo

HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zuV95xCn6U
Southern Ergoth

HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4rqJITDDXo
Southern Ergoth is densely populated with Silvanesti,
Qualinesti, Kagonesti, goblins, the ogres who rule the city of
Daltigoth, and Solamnics who have an outpost in the west. In the
northeast is a barren wasteland, where the goblins live. Morgash
Bay, in the center of the island, is protected by a mountain
range surrounding it. In these mountains lies Foghaven Vale.
This vale is the location of the tomb of Huma Dragonbane, the
hero of the Third Dragon War. The three elven sub-races dominate
the southern part of the isle. In 12 SC, Gellidus the White
claimed Southern Ergoth and transformed most of it into a
glacier. Most of the elven and human inhabitants have since fled
to Cristyne and Sancrist, leaving only a few outposts remaining.
Abanasinia

HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tp08zeZe5MQ
The nation of Abanasinia was created by the Cataclysm. The
plains were separated from Solamnia and placed near the shores
of Newsea, and thus a new nation was born. Abanasinia is home to
the tribes of plainsmen and is marked with the cities of Solace,
Haven, Gateway, and one or two hill dwarf villages. Also, of
note with its borders is the mysterious forest known as Darken
Wood. During the War of the Lance, much of Abanasinia was
devastated by the dragonarmies, and the inhabitants were forced
to slowly rebuild. Haven and Gateway are of little import, and
little has occurred in either of these two small cities. Solace,
however, is a different story.
Solace

HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2PS54e6y1A
Solace is a curious town, where almost all of the buildings are
erected up in the trees. These mighty vallenwoods house many
buildings and, for years, have been home to the Majere family
and the Inn of the Last Home. Solace was the original meeting
place for the Heroes of the Lance, and since the Second
Cataclysm, has also been marked by the Tomb of the Last Heroes.
The Tomb contains the bodies of all the brave knights of both
orders (Solamnic and Takhisis) who saved Krynn from Chaos and
perished.
Darken Wood
North of Solace is the lovely Crystalmir Lake, which is framed
in the southwest by the mysterious Darken Wood. The forest is
protected by a legion of undead soldiers and ruled by the
Forestmaster, a great unicorn. Also dwelling within the
woodlands are several clans of centaurs and satyrs who serve the
Forestmaster and tend to the forest. With the departure of the
gods, the undead have ceased to inhabit Darken Wood, but the
centaurs still prove to be fierce guardians who repel most
outsiders from entering.
Schallsea
To the northeast, just off the coast of Abanasinia, lies the
island of Schallsea. This island is part of the large nation and
is the location of the Silver Stairs, a magical site blessed by
the gods of goods. In 8 SC, Goldmoon, Hero of the Lance, founded
the Citadel of Light after she discovered Mysticism, the new
clerical magic. With the aid of Jasper Fireforge and Iryl
Songbrook, Goldmoon teaches the healing arts to her students and
attempts to bring back the powers of good to the devastated land
of Krynn.
Xak Tsaroth
Xak Tsaroth was once a thriving city and home to the temple of
Mishakal. During the Cataclysm, it was partially destroyed, and
the surviving inhabitants fled. The temple itself was one of the
only buildings to escape destruction during the Cataclysm. The
ruined city was later discovered by gully dwarves when Nulph
Bulp fell down a shaft that led into Xak Tsaroth. Nulph then
claimed the city as Bulp property and allowed the Slud and Glup
clans also to move in. Glunggu Bulp invented a lift made of two
large pots, which was constructed inside the Xak Tsaroth and
later used by the draconians. During the War of the Lance,
Khisanth the black dragon claimed Xak Tsaroth in order to guard
the Disks of Mishakal. She had draconian forces to aid her, and
they then enslaved the gully dwarves. The Heroes of the Lance
slew Khisanth and caused more destruction to the city by its
collapsing further into Newsea. After fleeing during all the
fighting, the Aghar later resettled into Xak Tsaroth and all
three clans merged into one united clan of Bulps, under the
(able?) leadership of Highbulp Glitch.
Qualinesti

HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24THDfvgHLI
Qualinesti was founded by Kith-Kanan after the Kinslayer War,
when the Silvanesti refugees were cast out of the old homeland.
Its capital is Qualinost, where the Tower of the Sun lies. The
Tower is the seat of power and is where the Speaker of the Suns
dwells. Qualinost is surrounded by four large watchtowers, which
are connected by massive golden arches. These are the walls by
which the city limits are defined. In the center of Qualinost is
the Hall of the Sky, where all important decisions are often
made by the ruling council and the Speaker. Qualinesti is east
of the Kharolis mountains and southwest of Abanasinia. On its
western shores lie the Straits of Algoni. The surrounding forest
is known as the Forest of Wayreth. It is a magical wood that
houses the Tower of High Sorcery. The tower has the ability to
vanish and reappear almost anywhere within the forest, thereby
preventing intruders from locating it and entering without
permission. More recently, Beryllinthranox, the Green Dragon
Overlord, has claimed Qualinesti. She displayed that she can
drain the elves’ life force and has bent them to her will. Many
elves served under Beryl with her draconian forces and her green
dragon underlings. Beryl has forced the elves to locate the
Tower of Wayreth, so she can claim its magical artifacts. In the
end, this proved fruitless, and Beryl was slain by the elves.
Qualinesti was destroyed in the fight, and now the elves are
roaming the forests in search of a new home.
Pax Tharkas
Pax Tharkas was a citadel built in the name of peace, between
the Qualinesti elves, the dwarves of Thorbardin and the humans
of Ergoth. It was built by Speaker of the Suns Kith-Kanan and
King Glenforth Sparkstriker's people. It is also the final
resting place of the Kith-Kanan. The citadel was captured by the
Dragon Highlord Verminaard during the War of the Lance. It was
developed into an iron mine by the dragonarmies. Refugees from
Gatewat, Solace, and Haven were then sent to work in these mines
during the war. A slave revolt, led by the Heroes of the Lance,
ended the dragonarmies' hold of Pax Tharkas and led to the
freeing of the slaves and the death of Verminaard. Pax Tharkas
lay uninhabited until after the War of the Lance, when the Aghar
hero Sestun led his small clan of gully dwarves to the ruins.
They defended the ruins against draconian troops and now inhabit
the ruined citadel.
Thorbardin &

the Kharolis Mountains
Thorbardin
In the middle of the Kharolis Mountains lies the dwarven nation
of Thorbardin. Thorbardin is the underground nation of the
mountain dwarves. This massive empire contains seven major
cities and three large warrens. Outside of the mountain but
within the borders of the dwarven nations lies Pax Tharkas,
Skullcap, and Thoradin. Thorbardin itself is lighted by a system
of openings that filter light from above. The city-fortress has
only two entrances, which are both heavily guarded: Northgate
and Southgate. Thorbardin itself lies in the Urkhan Sea, and its
center is composed of a gigantic stalagmite known as the Life
Tree. The Life Tree is a 28-story fortress that is home to the
Hylar, the most powerful and generally the ruling clan of all
the dwarves. The clans of dwarves that reside within Thorbardin
are the Hylar, Daewar, Daergar, Klar, and the Theiwar. The Aghar
clan also has its own little city of Mudhole within Thorbardin.
After the Cataclysm, Thorbardin was sealed off from outsiders,
and both great gates were closed. The gates were not opened
again until the War of the Lance. The dwarves then dealt freely
with outsiders for a time, until Beryllinthranox the Dragon
Overlord attempted to conquer Thorbardin. The dwarves sealed
themselves inside their mountain again. Just before the sealing
of the mountain, Severus Stonehand and his followers left the
mountain to reclaim Thoradin. Also, the Neidar dwarves who dwelt
in villages outside the mountain fled to Abanasinia in order to
escape Beryl's wrath.
Kharolis
HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axhdhrbEs9c
Skullcap
Skullcap's only feature is the ruins of a fortress. This
once-great fortress was where Fistandantilus resided after the
Cataclysm. During the Dwarfgate War, the fortress was
obliterated by one of the archmage's spells.

Solamnia
HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IB0VyX5dmjc
Solamnia is in the center of Ansalon and covers under half of
the continent's land mass. It contains fertile plains, three
mountain ranges, a vast river, and great cities. Across Solamnia
live a variety of people, primarily humans but also ogres and
draconians are scattered within its domain.
Palanthas
The city of Palanthas was once deemed the center of all learning
in Krynn. The city itself is divided into two parts. Old City is
the buildings enclosed within the protective wall that was
originally built around the city. New City is the buildings
developed outside of the wall. Palanthas contained one of the
two remaining Towers of High Sorcery, which was protected by the
infamous Shoikan Grove. It also housed the Great Library of
Astinus. Not long after the Summer of Chaos, the Tower of High
Sorcery was destroyed, and the contents of Astinus' library
disappeared. The Temple of Paladine was built here after the War
of the Lance, and Palanthas soon became the center of worship
for the gods of light. The city is guarded by the High Clerist's
Tower, a bastion for the Solamnic forces sworn to protect
Palanthas. Palanthas did not face any real threat until the Blue
Lady's War, where Kitiara's forces destroyed parts of the city.
During the Summer of Chaos, the Knights of Takhisis assumed
control over Palanthas after crushing the Solamnic forces at the
High Clerist's Tower.
Kalaman
Kalaman is a northeastern port town of Solamnia. Prior to the
Cataclysm it was a trade rival of Istar, and constantly had
disputes with the Istarians. During the War of the Lance, the
city was assaulted and occupied by the Red Dragonarmy, until
it's liberation by the Golden General and the Solamnic forces.
Caergoth
Caergoth is another port town and is located in southern
Solamnia, along the Straits of Schallsea. It is a major
stronghold of the Knights of Solamnia.
Thelgaard
Thelgaard is a large city a little north of Caergoth. It has
always been a large base for Solamnic forces, especially during
the early years of the Knights. Vinas Solamnus personally
mustered his troops primarily in Thelgaard during the War of the
Ice Tears. More recently Thelgaard has faded in importance but
is still maintained as a major stronghold by the Solamnics.
Garnet
Garnet was given to the mountain dwarves for their aid in the
third dragon war. The dwarves mine the area and built a mining
town, named Garnet. The dwarves consider themselves a sovereign
nation, separate from Thorbardin and Solamnia, although they
maintain close alliances with the Solamnics, to protect them
from their eastern foes, the Lemish.
Dargaard
Pre-Cataclysm this province was the home of the great Solamnic
lord, Loren Soth. Due to his betrayal and rise amongst the
forces of darkness as a death knight, the province's name
changed from Knightlund to Nightlund. Dargaard Keep is Soth's
home, and often a stronghold for the forces of evil.
Solanthus
Solanthus is another Solamnic stronghold. Unfortunately, it fell
to the dragonarmies during the War of the Lance, and much of the
surrounding areas were destroyed. It was later reclaimed and is
slowly being rebuilt.
Vingaard
Vingaard Keep was the original home of the Solamnic Knights. The
Knights later moved their headquarters to Sancrist and Vingaard
faded in importance. Vingaard fell to the dragonarmies during
the War of the Lance but was later reclaimed and rebuilt.
Lemish
HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Np8bd1ezHic
The Dark Wood, the Heavily Forested area were settled by
barbarians who worshipped nature deities. Lemish was originally
comprised of tribal clans who constantly warred for dominance.
These battles erupted into several civil wars and the continual
changeover of Lemish rule. Lemish is closely allied with Throtyl
and Sanction. During the War of the Lance, Verminaard presented
himself to the Lemish ruler, Agronaard V, who swore allegiance
to him. Ever since. Lemish has been closely allied to the
greater powers of darkness within Taman Busuk.
Throt

Estwilde
HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zln9wRJ7ug8
Taman Busuk
HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCiF8w6fgKs
Taman Busuk is the nation of all that is evil. Almost every evil
race either dwells within its borders or is closely associated
with those inside. The dark nation is home to the cities of
evil, Sanction, Neraka, and Gargath. Taman Busuk borders the
Estwilde and Kern to the north. It is a mountainous region with
the exception of the southern wastelands. As a nation, Taman
Busuk is quite weak, yet the cities within its borders are
all-powerful and far more important than the nation as a whole.
Sanction
HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bMF0ncsuv0
Sanction is a port town that is surrounded by volcanic
mountains, the largest three being known as the Lords of Doom.
It was primarily a human town until the Blue Dragonarmy overran
it completely. It is home to evil mercenaries and draconians
since the end of the war. Sanction is also where the main Temple
of Takhisis was built. This temple was where the first
draconians were created, through the corruption of good dragon
eggs. Sanction was also the birthplace of Dragon Highlord
Ariakas and where he entered service in the priesthood of
Takhisis.
Neraka
HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OB6Z2cN37Ag
Neraka is the center of evil within Taman Busuk. It is home to
the Takhisis' Temple of Darkness. The Temple was created from
the original cornerstone of the Temple of Istar, which Takhisis
had located in the Abyss. The temple was twisted and corrupted
as it sprouted from this cornerstone. The temple houses
Takhisis' servants, and the surrounding city serves the same
purpose. During the War of the Lance, five massive barracks were
erected to house the five dragonarmies. The city was thrown into
chaos at the end of the War of the Lance, when Emperor Ariakas
was slain by Tanis Half-Elven, just in time to stop Takhisis'
re-entry onto Ansalon. The dragonarmies then fought each other
for control, and the war was lost. More recently, Neraka has
become home to the regrouped Knights of Takhisis. Under the
leadership of Governor-General Mirielle Abrena, the Knights have
claimed the city and have rebuilt their legions and constantly
taking on new recruits. The Knights have even recruited several
flights of blue dragons and are slowly rebuilding in size and
power. They have also allied themselves with many of the Dragon
Overlords in order to ensure their survival. The Knights,
however, serve themselves first, and the dragons second. They
are always looking out for their own interests before anyone or
anything else.
Gargath
Gargath was once a mighty city ruled by Lord Gargath. Gargath
was famous for capturing the Graygem, which he held in his
tower. The Graygem escaped during the ensuing battle, and the
tower was affected by its magic and constantly changed location.
The city itself is now little more than a simple gathering of
dwellings around the ruined tower. Gargath is primarily
inhabited by simple folk who are often recruited into the dark
forces of Taman Busuk as mercenaries and foot soldiers.

Silvanesti
HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ik8BvEzwe0
Silvanesti is the original home of the elves. The great elflord
Silvanos, originally founded the city after he and the elves
drove out the dragons during the First Dragon War. The capital
of Silvanesti is Silvanost, which is located in the center of
the Silvanesti forest. The Thon-Thalas River runs through the
center of the elven nation. During the War of the Lance, the
current Speaker of the Stars, Lorac Caladon, attempted to use a
Dragon Orb, to turn back the Dragonarmies who were attacking
Silvanesti. The orb proved too powerful and captured Lorac's
soul. All of Lorac's nightmares became reality and ravaged the
forest. The tree weeped blood and the forest became twisted and
perverted. This remained until years later when Porthios Kanan
dispelled the curse. The Silvanesti once again returned to their
realm and re-inhabited their cities. Through deceit and
trickery, General Konnal assumed control of Silvanesti and
caused Porthios and his wife Alhana Starbreeze, daughter of
Lorac Caladon, to be classed as traitors of the Silvanesti
nation. Konnal then raised a magical shield over Silvanesti
which prevented anyone from entering or leaving the nation. The
main purpose of the shield was to keep the racial purity of the
Silvanesti elves intact, and also to prevent the Dragon
Overlords from entering Silvanesti and conquering them. The
shield also killed all life within it. The shield had been
raised under Konnal's command by an elven advisor, who turned
out to be Cyan Bloodbane. The girl Mina and her armies broke
through the shield, exposed Cyan and slew him. With the shield
destroyed, the elven armies threw down their arms and were
either allied to Mina's dark forces, or enslaved. Silvanesti was
then later captured by the minotaur armies and is now controlled
by them.

Kendermore
Kendermore was a crazy city, naturally filled with kender.
Streets ran in all directions, literally through buildings, and
ended up going nowhere. It was truly a city of chaos. However,
after the Second Cataclysm, the city was destroyed by Malystryx,
and thousands of kender perished along with Riverwind, Hero of
the Lance. The surviving kender fled to Hylo, and the area has
been transformed into a barren wasteland and is now known as the
Desolation.
Flotsam
Flotsam is just north of Port Balifor and is almost identical to
its sister city. It is dotted with similar rowdy taverns and is
also rampant with crime. It is a port city and sits right on the
Blood Bay, which feeds directly into the Blood Sea of Istar.
Goodlund

Blood Sea Isles
HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNXVuN6y0IU
Istar was once a thriving seaport and considered the center of
the civilized world. It was the center of trade and of religious
worship. It was ruled by the Kingpriest, a cleric of Paladine,
who committed foul deeds in the name of good. The Kingpriest
attempted to ascend to godhood, and for his arrogance, the gods
threw down a fiery mountain onto Istar. This resulted in Istar
and the surrounding lands being forced down several hundred
feet. The Sirrion Sea then covered the entire area, and all
water was colored red; therefore, the name, the Blood Sea. The
legend states that the color is the result of all the people
killed in Istar during the Cataclysm, whose blood flows in the
water. The outskirts of the Blood Sea are safe to travel on;
however, at the center, where the city of Istar was once
located, is the Maelstrom. The Maelstrom is a huge whirlpool
where great storms rage. Any ships that draw close enough to the
Maelstrom are dragged into the depths of the ocean and
destroyed. The red color of the sea is actually caused by the
constant motion of the whirlpool disrupting the fertile soil of
Istar beneath the waves. The changes wrought at the end of the
Chaos War ended the Maelstrom in the absence of the Gods. The
Minotaurs had long held off their plans of conquest of the
mainland, for the Maelstrom stopped them. Now that it is gone,
the Minotaurs of the 5th Age see the opportunity before them.
The Minotaur Isles
The Minotaur Isles is comprised of four major islands, which are
the homes to sea barbarians and the minotaur race. Two legends
circulate as to the origins of these isles. The first is that
during the Cataclysm, the islands were separated from Krynn and
spared from destruction due to their innocence of the guilt of
Istar. The second is that the islands were originally part of
the groups of coastal islands which border on the Courrain
Ocean. When the Cataclysm struck, these four islands were
shifted and survived the move due to their altitude.
Mithas
Just south of Karthay lies Mithas. Along the south of Mithas are
four volcanic peaks. The rest of the island is covered in grassy
plains. The capital of Lacynos (Nethosak) is on the western
shores of Mithas and is sheltered from the Blood Sea by the
Horned Bay. Mithas is generally considered as the heart of the
minotaur nation, the Great Circus and the Great Temple of
Sargonnas are both in Lacynos.
Kothas
Kothas lies south of Mithas and in ruled entirely by minotaurs.
Its capital, Kalpethis (Morthosak), is a twin city to Lacynos.
Kothas was once equal in importance to Mithas, as the minotaur
nation was ruled by two leaders. In later years, the minotaur
nation has been ruled by one leader only. The leader always
resides in the imperial capital in Lacynos. Thus, Kothas has
faded in importance, although it is still an important part of
the empire.

Plains of Dust
HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZEWD4wqQPI
The Plains of Dust lie to the southeast of the Kharolis
Mountains and are marked by their capital of Tarsis. The rest of
the region is nothing more than dusty and dry plains, which are
almost devoid of life. After the Second Cataclysm, Stenndunud (a
blue dragon) and Iyesta (a brass dragon) declared themselves
Dragonlords and took up adjoining realms by dividing the Plains
between each other.
Tarsis
Tarsis was once a bustling port city and was famous for its
library, schools, marketplace, and temple. The Cataclysm turned
this great seaport city into a dusty relic of the past. Tarsis
soon found itself surrounded by dry plains and was swallowed in
the dust. During the War of the Lance, the Red Dragonarmy
attacked Tarsis and captured the city. After the War, rebuilding
soon began, and the Lords of Tarsis began plans to build a great
road from Tarsis to the sea, in order to open up more trade in
the region. These plans are still incomplete, and Tarsis is once
again fading back into obscurity.
