Hedge Wizards & Dabblers

Hedge Wizards & Dabblers While mages must risk their lives to
pass the Test, spellcasters of only minor power are free to
practice their arts without interference from the Conclave.
So-called “hedge wizards” cast spells of small effect, sell
charms and amulets, and concoct potions in cities and towns
scattered over the land. Street illusionists supplement their
sleight-of-hand tricks with sparks of genuine magic. The elves
of Qualinesti and Silvanesti, who embrace the arts of magic in
their daily lives, often combine minor arcane magic with their
other endeavors. These “dabblers” may cast whatever spells they
wish until they reach a level of power that draws in the
attention of the Conclave, in which case they must take the Test
or risk being branded a renegade.
Examples: The Brown Robe War Wizard Horkin was not a Tower Mage
and did not take the Test of High Sorcery. But honored the
Goddess Lunitari.
