vol. I
Story Two: The White Witch
Chapter One: In the Shadow of Tarsis [/center]
Western Ansalon
Solamnia
Twelfthmonth, as it is known in Palanthas
Frostkolt to the rest of Solamnia at large
Master Coryn puts another couple of logs in the furnace in the
master’s study as she watches the temperature drop. Coryn
Brinewater is from the Icewall; she knows cold, but it seems
there is a draft coming in that she has yet to track down.
Hiram has moved into the Tower for the winter months; Coryn has
a few other neighbors who live with her now in the Tower. Three
from the Academy of Sorcery from Solace, that being Lyra from
Haven, the oldest of the group, Ann of Solace, Emma Xela from
North Keep, and Erik of Gateway. Haley Skytracker has been
serving as a head instructor for Tower.
A Red Robe Wizard by the name of Marcellus Aldridge has moved in
as well. he mostly stays to himself, but is not antisocial; he
will join them every once in a while. Coryn is waiting for
Master Karnea to return to take the books she has roped off in
the Library of Nightlund. Except for these dark tomes, the Red
Robe has been allowed to investigate the library in his own
time. He has provided his services to the school, teaching a
class or two at the Nightlund school located within the Tower.
It has been wondered about what exactly he is up to. Hiram, for
one, is not a great admirer of the Red Robe and his mysterious
ways. He has watched him like a hawk, but nothing has ever come
of it, and so the white robe has backed off a bit and has tried
to become even more random in his observations, and still
nothing.
Palanthas,
Of the three Masters, Coryn is more active than the other three.
The lesson she learned in Tarsis was learned, but she feels she
has to chance her travels if they are deemed important enough to
handle in person; otherwise, she has let Hiram take the lead on
the operations and oversee the different schools of Solamnia.
For now, Coryn travels the streets of Palanthas to the jail and
talks to the captain.
Soon, Coryn and Moptop Bristlebrow are having lunch at Coryn’s
Manor, which was passed to Coryn by Jenna. Coryn is explaining
to the kender the assignments she wants done. Coryn has several
kender in her employ, but Moptop Bristlebrow is her most
reliable of her kender scouts. Coryn coaxes the information she
hired him to get for her before he was put in jail. Coryn can
get through the clutter and pick up the information she wants.
She has been gathering information on the duke’s wrongdoings.
The State of Solamnia is an utter disaster in how the power has
fallen to these Dukes; they have split the knighthood's armies
to defend their fiefdoms.
She has been thinking of ways in which they can rid Solamnia of
these terrible leaders. Her nights with Jaymes, they have mused
what it would take to rid them of the dukes, and how they could
bring Solamnia back into prominence again.
Coryn asks Moptop Bristlebrow if he is ready, and he says that
he is. They travel the paths of magic to Thelgaard and send him
on his mission inside. Moptop knows a secret way inside. Coryn
teleports back to the Tower of Nightlund.
The master’s study,
Coryn has thought about their encounter in Tarsis a lot over the
last couple of days. She wonders about the lost time that she,
Highmage Jenna, and others of our group experienced in the room
of the headmaster in Tarsis. She wonders about the accounting
Master Karnea gave them after the fact. Even Jenna was spooked.
