       Today I've found myself wondering:
Can obsession lead a person to salvation as readily as
damnation, metaphorically speaking? Can it serve as a catalyst
for change, without becoming ultimately self-destructive? Or is
obsession simply impossible to harness, impossible to turn to a
       positive end?
Because some days, I think shit like this...

Obsession can be quite useful I think. Unless it leads to
       obsession of course... ;D
The way I see this, the only downside about it is that it takes
focus from other perhaps even more important things, and that is
       not good.

I'd like to ask for understanding on the slowness of the forum
and the sparse posting. We are currently working through things
at home and my mind is not on this place.

All righty, boys and gulls. Gather 'round, while The Dark One
       (R) brings you up to speed in his personal affairs, because I
know you care more about my life and exploits than your own.
Roll the clock back 45 days ago, and I had delivered my two week
notice to my old company as I had gotten a job at another
company closer to my house as well as much more reputable.
       Or so I thought.
My first couple of days had been swimmingly well and I looked
forward to the days and shifts to come. Then I learned that the
schedule hadn't been made yet, and that I was in fact 'per diem'
(on call each day) for the rest of my six month probationary
period. This did not sit well with me, especially as I'd been
more or less guaranteed 50-60 hour weeks and I didn't want to
sit around each day begging for shift.
I began to stop picking up my phone and started job hunting
again. This went on through much of July, and I didn't stomach
well the idea that I might have to go back to the first company.
Enter a bus company. I was more or less hired even before I
showed up. It was one of those dial-a-rides for senior citizens
if you're unfamiliar with it, its a van or bus for old folks.
The training was easy enough, the problem was the pay. They were
even more underpaid than EMT's...which is saying something. You
work these 50 hour weeks with zero overtime and basically
minimum wage. So I still searched. FINALLY, contacting an old
friend had me come into the good graces of another company, and
I got hired also pretty much on the spot by his recommendation.
The pay is ironically the highest I've received in the industry
thus far, and now seek to stabilize and get my arse back in
       school ASAP.
       The Black Hand RISES!!

       Congrats.
Sounds like things are working out in your favor. Personally, I
havemore or less settled for a low stress job with acceptable
pay because I don't enjoy work related anxiety.
On one end it is calming to know that in the long run things
will work out in my favor but at the same time I have to wonder
if life would be more interesting if I took risks. Maybe I'll
never find out, perhaps my obituary will read dull and
unimpressive but somehow I take pride in it.

Congrats, Blackie. Wish my own job hunting could go just as
       swimmingly well ;D
