Delvam was forced to admit to himself that he was starting to
like Anais. Most women would have spared more than a glare
Gareth's way, but she regained her composure remarkably swiftly.
If she fared as well in battle, she would be formidable. And her
display of telekinesis was not lost on him, such control was
rare in one so young. A goblet of wine had arrived with Anais'
food, and Delvam took a sip before replying, his crimson gaze
locked with her azure eyes.
"That is a question that must be answered in parts, and extends
back a century all told, but the tale in full I would only share
with friends. To be brief: I came to Kvatch hoping to study the
remnants of the Great Gate that had once been here, but all
trace of it is long gone. Not even an echo of its magic remains
here, a shame, at east for we who summon daedra.
As for why I am here, in this tavern, the answer is simple.
Indeed, I have already presented you it. I found one of your
flyers. What mage could resist such a lure as a tome written in
daedric, when the mage in question can read it?
The journey to Cyrodiil was a costly one, and so I am in need of
coin. I'll not turn to the Mages Guild, not under any
circumstances. And in the past century I have spent more than
three decades among various mercenary companies across Tamriel.
I found the work agreeable, ample scope to hone my talents where
they are best applied, and more than adequate compensation for
my efforts.
And I have a question for you, Anais: Clearly you are a natural
mystic, to sense my power in the manner you did. What other
talents do you have?"

"Talents? Conjuration as well, like yourself. Illusion,
Restoration, and Mysticism. I've never found Destruction too
entertaining. Poof, and they're dead. What fun is that?" She
sipped her wine and brought a bite of chicken to her mouth with
the fork. She swallowed.
She was pleased to hear about his aversion to the Mages Guild.
She herself detested them, them and thir current Arch Mage. His
temper, though. She had worked with mages like him; quick temper
and a sharp tongue. She found that those who kept their
composure around them survived the longest. She wasn't unaware
of her own temper, but she believed her anger to nearly always
be justified. Despite Delvam's sudden display of temper, she had
to admit she found the idea of another mage in the group an
enjoyable idea.
"We want the other two books," she said finally. "There are two
issues, however. One book resides in an Ayleid ruin nearby. The
other in the realm of Hermaus Mora." Her eyes briefly betrayed a
glint of excitement.
"It would be very lucrative to have all three books, wouldn't
you say?"

Delvam saw the gleam in her eyes, and set down his wineglass.
"You mean to raid Hermaeus Mora's realm? To plunder Apocrypha
for the sake of mere coin? I thought you had more wit than
that." Delvam rose from his seat, shouldering his pack. "If your
goal is to pursue such insanity, then so be it. My interest in
joining your company has waned. Good day."
Delvam didn't so much as look back as he strode out of the
tavern. Clearly, he was done with Kvatch.

"Looks like someone isn't up for much adventure." Gareth
muttered "He'll be back, though, don't worry Anaïs. No sane Mage
would truly turn down the opportunity to physically study the
realm of a daedra." He continued to watch the door "Perhaps you
could not bring up Mora's realm, it'll scare regulars away I
suppose." He sighed and looked at Anaïs again "Should we put up
more posters?"

Autolycus strode agilely through the city streets of the rebuilt
Kvatch. He'd heard of the sheer destruction that'd been brought
down upon the former incarnation of the township during the
Oblivion Crisis, and the only real reaction he'd had was that it
must've done wonders for the local tourist industry.
One of the taverns that had caught his attention with the name
"Nine Wenches" likely catered to many a tourist, brought in by
tales of horrible Daedric invasions, general slaughter, and
fiery gates. Why did those terrible stories attract more
attention than a warm meal and bed? Than again, those foolish
enough to run towards such things were also likely as rich as
they were ignorant. True, he'd given up thieving; officially
anyways, sometime ago, but a man needed more than one plan when
it came to coin.
The Dunmer that exited the tavern in some sort of huff made him
assess him as someone smart enough to walk away from danger.
Certainly not the type he'd want to try to pickpocket...for some
reason it seemed that looking at that mer made him sense some
sort of change in the wind.
"I wonder what all that was about." Auto thought to himself.
At that moment the wind really did change, and a gust of wind
smacked a loose parchment directly onto Auto's face.
Flinching involuntarily, almost falling backwards from the
surprise, he recovered as he hastily snatched the parchment off
of its resting place.
Tempted to crumble it up and toss it aside for causing his
momentary loss of elegance, his eyes nonetheless began scanning
the lines contained therein.
The corner of his lips raised ever so slighty.
"Well, Lost Knights. Let's see what you've got."
First however, he decided that he needed that aforementioned
warm bed and meal as he'd just arrived in Kvatch himself, and he
could think of a fate worse than 'Nine Wenches'. Not that that
was the reason he carried around potions of cure disease...
Entering in slowly, he gave his eyes a moment to adjust to the
light and scanned for an empty table finding one to be near the
lass with the fiery red hair and the....*other* professional.
Certainly Autolycus had no way of knowing that the man was a
thief for certain, but Trade recognized Trade....even former
ones.
He took a seat, and as he waited for the serving wench for him
to place his order, he studied the flyer for further
information.

Eraamion found himself at something of a loss. He'd arrived in
Kvatch that morning, and begun making enquiries. But the guards
weren't recruiting, not for Battlemages at least. And the Mage's
Guild had proved no better, not having so much as a bed spare.
All Eraamion knew was magic and battle, and it seemed Kvatch had
little use for either. He toyed with the thought that he might
fare better in another city, but it was too late to travel this
night. He asked a guard about lodgings, and was pointed to a
tavern named The Nine Wenches. He thanked the guard, suppressing
a grimace at the tavern's name, but sought it out anyway. It
wasn't as though he had an alternative.
Eraamion had to duck his head slightly as he entered, the
doorway not having been built with Altmer in mind, and once
inside he pushed back his hood. He scanned the room, the head of
his warhammer resting casually on his shoulder, though he knew
he could bring it to bear at a moment's notice. Training and
experience led his gaze to a darkly dressed man seated beside an
attractive redhead, and he recognised the subtle clues that
marked his trade. He made a note to keep one hand near his
coinpouch at all times. Where one thief could be found, others
were likely to be nearby.
He made his way to the bar, and spoke briefly to the bartender,
securing a room for the night and ordering a meal and a glass of
wine. As he sat himself down at a table to wait for his meal,
setting his pack and warhammer down beside him, he began to ask
himself if leaving the Legion was really the right thing to do.

Anaïs snapped the book shut and let out an irritated hiss of air
through her teeth.
"We need those books, Gareth." She watched as new customers
entered the doors. None of them interested her in the slightest.
"Mentioning Mora was an idiotic move on my part, I'll admit. But
it weeded out the undesirables." She took another bite of her
food. "So, we are back to the two of us. Perhaps we should just
tell the so-called court Mage to do his own dirty work. Damned
Altmer." She took a gulp of her wine.
"He can't even read daedric, the fool. And he's so far up the
Arch Mage's ass, I can smell what that Bosmer ate for lunch."
She ran her fingers over the cover of the book, her mouth pursed
angrily.
"We need someone who can fight. Someone with the strength and
skill we don't possess."

"Hmm. That Altmer over there looks capable. And that guy there.
And that one." Gareth began pointing to multiple people "Maybe
we should keep the Mora thing quiet? No. That wouldn't be a good
idea. People would be rather upset to learn that they may have
signed up for more than they have bitten off. Perhaps we should
hire a few mercenaries, or blackmail a Mage who can actually
read daedric into helping us find the other books. Or we could
do the dirty work ourselves. I'd translate the books, but I
don't know daedric. Only dragon language, nordic, and
cyrodillic. I never looked at daedric." He sighed and signaled a
wench over. He ordered a few shots of whiskey and bit his lip as
he watched the wench walk off "Too bad she's diseased." He
muttered. He sighed and slumped in his chair and adjusted his
cowl "Perhaps we should walk around the tavern and invite people
to join our endeavors. If people are interested, they'll join
up. If not, then we can rule them out. It's better than sitting
here and waiting for people to pick up garbage and read it.
Unless you want this keep expedition quiet..."

"If it's that big of a deal, I can cure her," Anais grumbled.
Gods, that man never gets his head out from between the legs of-
She suddenly had a thought.
"No more Mora," she said suddenly. "That part of the expedition
isn't even true. So why lie? To weed out individuals who might
help us? No. Auditions. Those who need money ask for jobs." She
stood up and walked towards the bar and set down a coinpurse.
"Change of plans. Auditions tomorrow night, outside the south
gate."
"Should I tell them the time?" The bartender grabbed the
coinpurse and sneered at Anais. Her face remained stoic.
"Of course, you imbecile. Dusk."
"You're really uptight. Too bad that Dunmer made left in a
hurry. I could see you dripping with excitement from here."
"And I can smell the teeth rotting in your head from across the
room. Don't try my patience." She turned and made direct eye
contact with one of the men who walked in the door, then turned
her attention to her front. She sat back down with Gareth as the
serving wenches, oddly only seven instead of nine, continued
taking orders, making their way to the new patrons.
"I told the bartender about the auditions. We only need one or
two more people. How much did he say he was going to pay us? a
thousand apiece? Even so, split four ways, we could still walk
away five five hundred septims each."

"That's plenty of septims to keep my stomach full for a while.
This Mage better be paying what this expedition is worth. So,
auditions, huh?" He shifted in his seat. "I can't wait to see
how this goes. Hmm. I wonder if more women will join this group.
Or more men. I'm pretty sure you'd like to have fun with a few
of them. I'm surprised your seat isn't dripping from the sight
of that dunmer." He snickered and pulled his cowl down. He ran
his fingers through his dark, course hair. He ran his hands over
his face, then rubbed his eyes and sighed "Ugh. People better
join. I'm a busy man, and if people don't join soon, I might
just help this damn Mage all by myself." He eyed a few
attractive women by the bar. A small smirk spread across his
face as he eyed a brown haired imperial woman
'I'd do her....'
