       And now, I'm reading Dragonquest.
Because when it's too hot to sleep, and you're up until 4am, you
can get a surprising amount of reading done...
       [s]Dragonsong[/s]
       [s]Dragonsinger: Harper of Pern[/s]
       The White Dragon
Damn, these books are tough to put down ::)

Well, I smashed my way through the Pern books, read a trilogy
omnibus entitled Orcs, by Stan Nicholls, and then a duology: The
Innocent Mage and The Awakened Mage, by Karen Miller. There are
also three others set around them, two after, one before, but
the sequels are pretty bland and the prequel's an abomination.
No, really, it's like it's not even by the same author, it
throws out everything the first two books established about past
events in favour of turning the whole thing into a bad romance.
       :(
And now I'm reading The Poetic Edda ;)

Alternating between Dragon Haven by Robin Hobb, The Firebrand by
Marion Zimmer Bradley and To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf. I
seem to have a female writers theme going on at the moment.

Well, all the Dragon ones written only be her, based off the
list at the start of her books. Though I skipped a couple. Her
habit of dedicating entire books to insignificant characters
just got irritating. That and her inability to maintain
       continuity.

Just about finished reading Destiny by Elizabeth Haydon, the
third book of the Rhapsody trilogy.
It's a good story, I'll give her that, but the main character,
Rhapsody, is a textbook Mary Sue. Strangely it's not something
I'd noticed before, but this time round it was unmistakable.
It's a shame really, because apart from that, it's a damn good
       trilogy.

I have SUCH a hard time not writing Mary Sue's.
Which is why this time around in Kayla's story, it's going to be
grittier and darker and she's gonna fuck up a lot.

I've never really understood how people end up writing Mary
       Sue/Gary Stu characters.
I mean, what really makes a character come alive is their flaws,
       more than anything else.
Then again, I've always hated paladin type characters, which
generally covers the MS/GS sort, so it might just be that...

Reading Andrzej Sapkowski's The Last Wish
Makes me want to play the Witcher games, though I don't think
the first will run on my laptop*Grumbles inarticulately about
integrated graphics* so I'm probably going to end up buying the
       second one. Again.
       *Sighs*
And no, I don't have a clue how you pronounce his first name...
