The conclusion of Long Live the Order, Down With the Chaos
By: Rita Arthurs Date: May 24, 2015, 7:00 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Taking inspiration from the tumblr post, I drafted the ending of
       LLtO,DWtC
Let me just say 2 things about this - this literally broke my
heart to write. I really wish that Xia's fate turned out
differently, but there is no other fitting ending which would
have a (hopefully) big impact. Secondly, to point out the
importance of the last words in the chapter - each chapter
before this was planned to have a title of the current 'mission'
or as I titled them 'Order' (instead of chapter eg Order 1, 2
etc) and each time Xia kinda failed them so the last words of
each chapter were planned to be 'mission failed' or something.
Now that I have explained these 2 things....enjoy having your
heart broken, you friggin sadists *runs off crying*
(Last chapter (planned 'Order 10') – 'To Die and To
Wither'; obviously this is not the entire chapter but the very
       very end of it)
“Xia!!!” I could hear their bewildered screams
behind me as I ran for my life, holding the manuscript close to
heart. This was it. This was the answer to Glenton’s
       success!
The falling snow had turned into a snow storm as everything
around me became a wall of ice. It was hard to see when these
snowflakes kept assaulting my eyes. Thankfully that also meant
that my footsteps were covered in a matter of seconds, making it
hard for Pendragon to follow me.
Finding a small cave, I crawled in with my numb hands and
legs. At this rate I may freeze to death before I reach
Londinium again. Everything is fine though since Arane promised
to find me once the mission was over.
       Arane…
I shook my head as my cheeks began to burn. It was just
because of the cold. Nothing more. I was above this.
Well aren’t you an obedient kitten…
His words echoed in my mind. I am a fool for remembering such
petty details. He sees me nothing more than a tool…
       Just…a…
It’s your birthday today, right? You should feel
       honoured with this gift…
       Tool…
Tears began to form in my eyes. I clutched onto the necklace
that Arane had given me, even if it did have a strange engraving
       of a lizard on it.
Have you finally fallen for me today, kitten?
       Damn you…!
I wiped my tears as I made a resolution that when this is all
over – I would surely make it my mission to snatch his
heart and succeed. So far, I may have failed all my missions
until now, but surely… This time…
Remembering my original goal, I looked down at the manuscript.
This seems so insignificant now…So pointless… Yet I
must finish what I have started. I unrolled the manuscript and
began to scan. The same Lizard and Phoenix drawings was the
first thing that I noticed. Under the Lizard the script read
‘Terra Stelio’ while under the Phoenix it read
‘Risenden’. Were these their names? From the old
books I found at the Glenton library, it seems that Phoenixes
and Lizards were real, and the manifestation of Order and Chaos.
No wonder the Order is always represented by a Phoenix and the
Chaos by the Lizard in all the old tomes…
Yet what was so special about the so called Risenden and Terra
Stelio? I began to read the script in full.
Risenden, a Phoenix born extraordinaire. As the first and
Original Phoenix, the Overlord overlooked an important part in
his creation – emotions. An experiment of the most
obedient servant of the Overlord, thus the prime representative
of Order in all realms. The project however was vetoed by the
       Godmother, ruler of all.
Terra Stelio, the Original Lizard. Deathlord’s own
experiment parallel to the Overlord’s as a means to create
the opposite to Order – Chaos. Terra Stelio was therefore
bestowed with the ability to defy all that was logical and
orderly, thus being able to manipulate time. As the Original,
acquaintance of Risenden, although the extent of relationship
       unknown.
The Originals… what do they have anything to do with
Glenton and why is this manuscript in the deepest corners of the
Glenton library? I carried on to read in search of answers.
Unfortunately, most of the script was a chronicle of the origins
of the first mass species recorded since the beginning of time,
the Phoenixes and the Lizards. Not much was disclosed on the so
called Overlord and Deathlord, who seem to be Chaos and Order
themselves. Even less there was information on the Godmother,
the deity above all deities; the master puppeteer of the
puppeteers, the deities, and their puppets, the mortals. At last
I begin to read the last paragraph.
And so with all fates sealed, began the deadly game of time,
or lack of. The World of Chaos was created, which stood still in
the time flow as history repeats itself while the Original World
moves on. The Chaos World is ruled by Chaos itself, with no true
Order. Despite the presence of the mortal ‘Order’
and its occupation of the world, it is corrupted still. Western
Maxecclesia in Londinium was chosen as the mortal
       ‘Order’s’ base.
       No…
       While the true Chaos’s base–
       This cannot be…
       Was chosen to be–
       “Glenton.”
I nearly yelped in surprise as I heard an icy, yet familiar
       voice behind me.
I turned to face those familiar piercing snake eyes. Arane
stood at the entrance of the cave, “It is most unfortunate
that this game is already over, my kitten…”
Contradictory to his words, Arane’s eyes and tone were
as cold as steel. I jumped up from my sitting position and
showed him the manuscript, “Arane! This…This
explains everything! The reason that Glenton is impenetrable
       is–!”
“It is Chaos itself,” I could not read
Arane’s expression as he turned away from me and began to
walk out into the snowstorm, “In the World of Chaos where
       no true Order exists…”
“You…knew?” I ran after him and found him
stood on a field of pure white. It seemed almost surreal with
the way the descending snowflakes fell around the small area in
which he was standing, as if protected by an invisible dome.
Arane glanced back at me. From his expression I could tell
that he knew this for a very long time as he looked as though
this was the most obvious fact in the world.
“Then why did you send me on this madman’s
mission?!” I could not contain my anger. All this
time…I had to live with the enemy…and he never said
a word? The only word I could use to describe how I felt
       is… betrayal.
“Xia…” I flinched as for the first time he
used my name, “Did I not say not to meddle with my
       affairs?”
Instead of anger, all I could reply with was confusion,
“What do you mean? Wasn’t this the mission you sent
me on? To find the reason behind Glenton’s success? How
does this have anything to do with you? Unless…”
Arane turned to face me fully now, “Unless?”
“Unless you were a spy…” realisation hit me,
       yet Arane merely began laughing.
“Alas! You really believe I am on the side of
Glenton?” his expression was pure mockery, looking at me
       with pity.
       “Then…who…are you with…? I don’t
understand…” nothing was making sense to me anymore.
Arane merely tapped the tip of his nose. I had to think this
       over.
       Something wasn’t adding up…
“Glenton is Chaos…but that was not always
so…” I began to think this over. Our organisation at
one point controlled all the lands, yet Glenton rose as a threat
only a few years ago… So what is different? The manuscript
stressed the importance of Phoenixes and Lizards… Hang
       on…
       “Don’t tell me…” I was mulling over
all the information in my head, not noticing the flash of regret
       on Arane’s face.
It wasn’t just any Phoenix or Lizard the manuscript
       focused on but…
“Terra Stelio and Risenden?” I managed to gasp
out. When I looked up, Arane’s expression was as hard as
       stone, “Glenton possesses the Originals?”
Hearing my revelation, Arane let out a sigh as he looked
downcast. Unexpectedly when he looked at me again, a sad smile
crossed his features with a hint of gentleness in his eyes,
“Kitten…if only you had stayed at the assumption of
Glenton succeeding based on the fact that it was Chaos
itself…I could have still pardoned you. Yet now…
I’m afraid I cannot avoid my true duty…”
“Wha–?” I barely had time to retort as the
familiar sound of released gears on Arane’s crossbow
preluded his intention. It was pure luck that my reflexes
reacted in time to get out my hidden daggers and deflect the
harpoon tied to a chain that was launched at me. The harpoon was
now stuck in the ground; I took this chance to grab the chain
and pull it towards myself. Arane, realising in time, let go of
the crossbow which I tossed with the chain away from both of us.
“You were planning to kill me all along, weren’t
you?” I chuckled sadly. There it is – the truth. I
knew that I was but a pawn in his game yet…why does this
       hurt so much…?
Arane tilted his head and raised one eyebrow, as if to
question whether I ever doubted that fact.
I sighed, “What are you going to do now that you have no
       weapons?”
At this, Arane seemed to hesitate. He pursed his lips as if
still wanting to say something yet being unable to do so.
“Not that I care but…” I began to cautiously
approach him; if he couldn’t kill me… I would have
to kill him, “What is your so called ‘true
duty’? To whom are you loyal? Just what are you?”
Yet in my heart I knew the answer. His ability to defy all
       laws… his recklessness… his gift…
“I am loyal to none, yet I have one duty…”
my eyes widened as Arane closed his eyes and lowered his head.
His hands began to morph into sharp claws as scales began to
emerge in random parts of his body. Eventually he raised his
head with sharp ears, a patch of scales on his left cheek, and
poison green glowing snake eyes. Not snake…
       “A Lizard's…” I almost whispered. Before me
stood a humanoid Lizard foretold in chronicles of old,
       “Terra Stelio…?”
Arane, or whoever it was that stood in front of me, shook his
head, “Terra Stelio is much, much older than me. I am but
the second Lizard Guardian of the Chaos World sent with one
       duty…”
I could not move as his eyes gazed into mine. I felt like a
rabbit, petrified by the snake’s eyes, or a moth trapped
in a spider’s web. Arane’s fingers grew tense, claws
grew longer and sharper as he extended his arm behind him in a
       battle stance.
“Exterminate all who learn the truth behind the Chaos
       World…”
In a flash he sprinted at me, his sharp claws ripping apart
the skin and flesh of my chest and stomach, although I also
heard a chain being broken. I tried to say something, yet all I
could manage was a gurgle as blood filled my airways,
splattering out of my mouth. As the world began to spin, I fell.
The last thing I saw may have been a delusion on my part
yet…I could have sworn I saw something resembling
blood-red tears rolling down Arane’s familiar face as he
said his last words to me:
       “Order ‘To Die and To
       Wither’…success…”
       Epilogue
The snowstorm had died down as suddenly as it had started. In
the now gently falling snow, the Leader of the Amber Tribe and
her search party were looking for a certain girl who disappeared
without explanation. Somewhere far from them, she lay in snow
slowly being dyed red around her. By her lay a broken chain
necklace, with a single medallion on which was engraved a lizard
with the almost invisible, worn out inscription ‘Tela
Serus’. Her loose hair of blue almost blended in with her
       pure white skin.
By the girl, stood a creature of myths, wearing a gentle yet
sad smile as he gazed down with affection while his words were
carried away with the wind, “It was fun, kitten. If
       only…we met in a different lifetime…”
With those words a red circle, half a pentagram and half a
star, grew black as it broke like glass into a thousand pieces.
The red strings which tied the two had released the broken
puppet and floated back to the puppeteer. Yet they did not stop
there as they kept rising up and up, towards the master as the
puppeteer became the puppet once again.
The creature closed his eyes as he whispered, “I do
       understand you now, Lebenden…”
Before himself dyeing the snow with red.
While the creature re-joined the essence of time as his body
dissolved, the doll lay still. Her expression was that of an
angel, wearing a gentle smile of forgiveness for the only one
who had ever held space in her broken heart.

oh i love it, oh the sweet devastation- do i detect a hint of
shipping? with reference to the red string of fate? (right as it
       fades into ghost-dom)
       Tela Serus: weapons, too late??!?
       Lebenden: Living
       oh yas! i love this!
(as soon as he said Terra Stelio is older, i just cant but think
of her calling him "little brother" or other dorky stuff) (Terra
Stelio is a dork who has semblance of control over time yet none
       over her limbs)

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Indeed the sweet devastation...bittersweet endings are the best
       kind, in my opinion
As for the shipping - yes. Yes, you do. As you could guess, Xia
did subconsciously fall in love with Arane and realised this in
the end. While Arane was just playing with the mortal, since he
is indeed a creature different to her, he does not exactly
possess the same meaning to the emotion of 'love'. Instead he
grew attached to her yet his duty prevented him from doing
anything (well more like since he was also a 'puppet' of the
       higher ups)
The red strings I talked of are the red puppet strings I
mentioned before and yes they are red because of the fate
       reference
As for the ghost-dom - I'm not sure if you got it or not but he
committed suicide since he could no longer stand being a puppet.
Being a Lizard, however, meant that he has to go back to what he
was born from - flow of time (kinda like ashes for humans).
       So...he kinda also dies...yeah ¬w¬
If you remember the RE:Mix version of ME, I posted the part of
where Tela Serus is mentioned to be killing Lebenden (the
Phoenix of Fire Isle). For this I would need to explain the
backstory of Lebenden (which will be a side story in one of the
arcs; I always planned to have a side story for each arc)
Basically Lebenden is the second Guardian, like Tela Serus, but
obviously the Phoenix representative. A few years back, however,
he had fallen in love (or the equivalent) with some village girl
(I have the sketches for both but cba to scan them). Obviously
this meant that he would be betraying his duties, but he cared
not. Tela Serus then obviously as the other Guardian had
to..well eliminate the distraction. Overtaken with grief,
Lebenden decided to severe all ties with Order and Chaos and had
gone into hibernation at the Fire Isle. He was the guardian of
the ruby tribe's (I think) jewel since the village girl was the
one who had given it to him as a gift (which is why I think I
would make her the ruby tribe leader a long time ago or
something). It took Tela Serus a long time to find him since
Lebenden hid his existence during hibernation. Ellancelot and
Anastice however awakened him and exposed his location, thus the
scene where Tela Serus kills Lebenden.
Now to apply this to Arane's actions - he knew that the
consequence of his attachment to Xia would only lead her to her
death. She had also found out the truth about the Chaos world as
he had gotten too careless. She was basically dead meat either
way so he had two options - try to elope with her, being found
anyway since...well the Overlord and Deathlord own the galaxy
while the Godmother owns the universe, meaning he could hide Xia
nowhere. So his two options were then elopement and her being
killed by the higher ups or her being killed by his own hands,
with the excuse of him doing his duty. He obviously would rather
kill her with his own hands and as quickly was possible. His
claws were venomous, numbing the pain and bringing a quick death
(which is why she had a gentle smile in the epilogue). He then
committed suicide because of what I already mentioned. I would
think that he had hoped to, like Terra Stelio and Risenden, to
be given a second chance with Xia in their next life (which is
why I am thinking of in the very end of the chronicles giving a
cameo to the human reborn versions of them).
Well Terra Stelio would be older than any Lizard, really, as she
is the Original. But yeah, she probably would have XD I'm not
sure what the connection is yet exactly, but I would think that
the second Guardians would be chosen based on how connected they
were to the originals, especially with the similarities in names
       Lol yes
As a side note I would also like to mention the importance of
the deaths of the second Guardians - they kept the 'Order' in
balance in the Chaos world. With them gone, the mortal Order
finds the truth behind all this and so the descent into the
Chaos universe's demise begins, so this is kinda like the
fulcrum point, really. This then gives the title of LLtO,DWtC
another meaning - the 'Down With the Chaos' being taken
literally - this is what causes the failure of the Chaos
       universe

:3 I took it that he ascended into the ethereal to deal with the
       ~emotions~ and stuff
ok, which story were planning to put Lebedan's story along with?
are they going to be the power couple I always wanted?
       So why Tela Serus?
ok (also, for a short while, with Terra Stelio being all up in
the Orders ranks, they are also kinda "down with the chaos",
       aaay?)
Her last words are "Terra Stelio" and that makes me happy
       because im self obsessed

Re: The conclusion of Long Live the Order, Down With the Chaos
By: Rita Arthurs Date: May 26, 2015, 6:13 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Well, like I said, his emotions are a bit different to that of
humans. You could obviously see that with how he uses everyone
as pawns and kills for pleasure. The strongest emotions of
Phoenixes and Lizards is their so called 'attachment', the
closest to 'love' they could feel. These attachments obviously
vary, like love does. But they are very strong. It is the
emotion which dominates them and never severs across lifetimes
(since both Lizards and Phoenixes are reborn once in a while).
So Tela Serus's attachment to Xia is close to the 'romantic
love' while Terra Stelio's attachment to Risenden is more
       'family love'.
And he is dead. That's final. While Phoenixes and Lizards are
immortals, the only thing which can take their life is either
       the higher ups or themselves.
I was thinking ME but I'm not sure...maybe
Not exactly. They will be humans in the modern world, so I doubt
they would have any power or skills they have trained during
       their previous lifetime.
Tela was chosen on the basis of the meaning 'web' - he is like a
spider who traps people with his web of red strings. Not sure
where you got the weapons from. Serus has two meanings - 'dark'
and 'too late'. This thus gives a double meaning which applies
to him - he is like a 'dark web' and once you're in that web it
is 'too late'. Not only that, but also once you find out his
       true name it's 'too late'.
Not exactly. It is all a game for the Lizards so they don't
exactly buy the crap with 'down with the chaos'
       I should change that....

And Risenden has a strong tolerance for Terra Stelio "you'd love
me really, if you had emotions" "I tolerate you." "more than
mo~st" "ugh" "love you too... no hetro"
wait, if he's, like, mega dead, how does he cameo again?
       it works
no, like power couple in the power of love, basically going
steady, everyone expects them to be married before they hit 20,
power couple. Also snarky, sarcastic, and sassy.
It translated tela as weapons, it got the too late
lizards are douches and i'm proud to be one of them
probs, make it even more soul destroying- make it the chronicles
version of "Rose Tyler, I-" may these be her dying words and the
words that kill the fandom, go, be bloody, be bold, be resolute,
because damnit, woman, you're the writer of this one and you
       have the power

Oh my god yes. We really need that in there
Well Xia is also 'mega dead'. They're just both 'dead' - their
bodies are destroyed but not their souls. Did you miss the point
that going back to the flow of time for lizards is the same as
for humans going back to the ashes?
My thoughts exactly otherwise everyone will be liek ....Lebenden
       wat?
Oh right. Well... Arane would have been older than Xia anyway.
They wouldn't be the same age in human years. I'd say he's in
his 20s. Otherwise mabeh. That's for the fanfiction to decide
I suppose they have different meanings
       They just defy logic, really
You really are a sadist, aren't you...
