The Chronicles of Bournemouthshire: Ruby’s Story Arc
Mission Exportable
Many years ago in a land of prosperous wonders and
civilisations, there stood the town of Bournemouthshire with its
mighty and rich lands. The lands were full of great forests,
lakes and mountains but the most infamous of all was the village
which resided there; the village by the name of Glenton. Many
came to envy the great prospering village with the five powerful
tribes resulting in many wars between the other villages and the
most feared of all – The Guild of Teaching with its dark
and corrupted alliance known as the ‘Order’. But
that is a story for another time while this one tells us of one
of the village’s representatives of one of the tribes
– the Ruby Tribe. Ruby was one of the most respected
tribes among Glenton; its gem of flaming Ruby symbolised the
Rubians’ fire of determination and energy. That was also
the reason the Rubians worshipped the almighty Fire God and wore
as much red clothing as possible. Our story begins in fact once
again not in Glenton but just outside the gates where one summer
evening’s soft breeze was interrupted by a very deep sigh.

Note - for now, chapter 1 has no name but meh
the excerpt was in fact the first paragraph of it though and I
wrote a little bit more but...well it's obviously not finished
~~~
“Why oh why do they hate me so? I can’t help but
wonder!” exclaimed a girl sitting on a large rock while
swinging her legs to and fro. She wore a striking crimson outfit
consisting of a jacket and trousers with a matching colour hat
while having the only white item as her t-shirt under the
jacket. Not far from the rock lay her very own boots and a whip
which she used as a weapon; a massive rucksack which was wide
open also lay there revealing its contents to be consisting half
of bricks and half of precious jewels. The girl took off her hat
and scratched her caramel-coloured hair before putting it back
on as she remembered the events leading to this moment and the
reason she had to look for more bricks to fill in her
rucksack…
♦♦♦
“Demon! Spawn of evil!” the witness dramatically
pointed at the clearly bored girl sitting casually while leaning
her legs on the table in the most un-lady-like manner,
“That woman is a slave driver! She even has a whip to
punish us!”
The girl rolled her eyes and sighed as the peasant standing in
the witness stand kept bawling about the torture they had to go
through every day while having to be under the girl’s
command. The tale (although a bit exaggerated) was quite
accurate as to having to carry the seven stone rucksack! If only
it was filled with anything precious but more than half the
contents were mere bricks! You see, the girl had a strange
preference to have the weight of the rucksack the same no matter
what (when it was full) and the bricks just happened to match
the weight of the jewels. That rucksack was very, very important
to her but unfortunately also very, very heavy for her to even
carry so she has found a solution of hiring random people who
she preferred to call ‘peasants’. Over the years,
she named her favourite ones by the name of
‘Diddicus’ and right now Diddicus VI was once again
the sixth of the previous Diddicus’ to sue the girl for
the so called ‘abuse’ they received and the back
problems which they suffered.
The judge finally declared that the girl must compensate
Diddicus VI’s injuries with her very own jewels and to
never come close to them at least within ten meters (as they
also applied for a restraining order at the same time; two birds
with one stone, as they say). Thus the girl was forced to
explore the outside of Glenton in search of new bricks or other
rocks which would suffice the weight and space lost in the
rucksack (ironically due to the previous incidents where she was
sued for the very same reasons; seems she never learns from her
past mistakes).
And so we are back where we are as the girl sighed for the nth
time before finally jumping off the rock she decided to rest on,
gathering her belongings and heading off back into Glenton.
The day was as busy as ever with the trade reaching its peak
of the day. This was a summer day meaning that there were many
visitors from the outside world as they bargained with the
clerks and other travelling merchants.
Where the girl entered was the central gate of Glenton meaning
she was right now at the heart of the suspiciously star-shaped
village. To the North could be seen the dark alleys of the Topaz
tribe while to the East was the Amber Cathedral with the
Amethystine Tower just a bit south of it. To the West could be
seen the Grand Library of the Sapphire tribe and finally South
of it once again stood the proud and tall Ruby Treasury. The
Treasury was not only responsible for the keeping of the various
treasures of the Ruby tribe but also for the rest of Glenton.
The most important treasure, however, was the Royal Ruby which
was guarded at the very heart of the Treasury – the symbol
of the Ruby tribe itself. Every tribe of course had their own
gem to represent them; the gem of course was the one of their
name (so if Ruby – it is a ruby, if Amber – it is an
amber). While they did have their gems, some chose not to
display their gems that easily! Some have hidden them in various
places in order to keep the thieves’ hands off them. How
and where they hid it was never known even by the village tribe
leaders; the only people who knew were the adventurers who were
entrusted with the task and the tribe elders.
“Have you heard?” the girl could hear as she was
walking down the streets of her home tribe Ruby. Great…
don’t tell me those peasants are talking about my trial!
the girl stopped at a corner and pretended she was busy while
still eavesdropping on the conversation.
“Yes! It is very shocking indeed!” the second
‘peasant’ replied excitedly while the girl scowled
sure, only an outsider would react like that to my situation!
“I still cannot believe it though!” what’s
there not to believe, you fool?
“Technology has really advanced, huh?”
…wait, what? Now the girl was getting more curious since
this did not sound like it was related to her but instead to
something new and grand!
“It has indeed! Although rumours have it that the
invention was already around for at least a year, we only hear
of it now!” the first peasant once again exclaimed. W-what
are they talking about?
“Well who could blame them? They had to test it out, I
suppose but…who knows what they could have done with a
ship for a year!” What? They were only talking about a
ship?! How boring! That’s no new invention! the girl was
evidently disappointed and was about to be on her way when she
heard more:
“Not just any ship! The engine is absolutely amazing! I
heard it is powered by lemons, actually!” the two peasants
laughed at the thought and how ridiculous it sounded,
“Well a ship with an engine to help power the sails
certainly is quite something! I even heard that the one Glenton
owns has the tribes’ jewels encrusted on it!”
The girl slowly turned her head at the mention of the key word
– jewels.
“Alright!” the girl happily exclaimed as she
knocked down a barrel near her and put her foot on it while the
two peasants jumped in sync due to their surprise, “I
shall board that ship, explore the Seven Seas and show everyone
what the great Elaine is made of!”
♦♦♦
“Absolutely NOT!” the Ruby elders banged their
fists in protest against their table, “Have you forgotten
that you were sued not too long ago?! And what would sending you
out now mean? Us rewarding you? You shame the name of Ruby even
if you are the future leader of the tribe!”
Elaine pouted as she was scolded by all of the elders at the
same time, “B-but-!”
“No buts! Leave! NOW!” the head elder had his
final word as Elaine was chucked out of the elders’ room
by the guards.
Elaine could not help but stomp and humph! as she walked down
the corridors of the Ruby Treasury. When there’s a
mission, I’m not a shame but then when it is private
matters, I suddenly become a shame! Rude! Elaine could not help
but have her anger burn more and more. Due to this, she has not
noticed a suspicious character sneaking around with a peculiar
green scarf, blonde hair and a strange beret. Elaine passed
right by the strange girl as she left the Treasury meanwhile the
girl headed towards the chambers where the Royal Ruby was
guarded…
The Chapter is still not finished but! It has got a name now:
Ruby on Fire
It was a nice calm summer evening. Everyone around Glenton
were already either at home with their families or out with
friends in taverns and inns. Some travelling bards laughed and
played while walking from tavern to tavern. Overall, nothing
seemed out of place especially in Ruby’s part of Glenton.
It would have been like any other evening if not for a sudden
loud explosion which occurred somewhere inside the Ruby
Treasury. Although the Treasury was mostly made of stone, there
were many curtains and other wall decorations as well as carpets
which caught on fire and soon enough – the fire spread
from the Treasury onto other houses made of wood. It
wasn’t long before the village wall made of wood also
caught on fire. The fire seemed as if it could not be stopped
and many villagers screamed and panicked (not to mention
stuttering away as fast as possible).
Amidst all the chaos, a figure jumped out of the burning
Treasury. It was the very same which sneaked in there not too
long ago; the only difference being them carrying something
wrapped in a tattered cloth…
~~~
And well....that's pretty much it for chapter 1

~ Chapter 2 ~
~ One’s Own Desire ~
“So umm…as you can see…the Royal Ruby was
stolen and you are the only one who stands a chance against a
fleeing thief known as Anastice…” the messenger
stuttered and no one could blame her – who would feel safe
standing in a bar while half the customers are fighting each
other while tables, chairs, bottles and anything else was thrown
around which could hit you any minute. A bottle fell and broke
right in front of the poor messenger as she screeched and jumped
in fear while also frantically looking around.
“Oh…so now they come begging, hmph!” Elaine
huffed as she took her feet off the bar’s table and
finished drinking whatever it was in her mug, “I tell you
now: I will not accept!”
“B-but!” the messenger did not finish her
reasoning before gasping and jumping back while a table was
tossed across the bar (which would have hit her if she did not
move).
“No buts, as they said! I don’t care what those
bastards who call themselves elders said! A ‘no’ is
a ‘no’!” Elaine ordered another drink and was
already drinking her fifth one in the last half an hour. She
seemed perfectly comfortable not to mention used to an
atmosphere where there was nothing but violence around her which
made the messenger wonder what Elaine’s daily life could
have possibly included for her not to be anxious in such a
situation.
In the end – the messenger did not achieve anything and
therefore had to return to the Ruby elders empty-handed.
Meanwhile the infamous thief was rumoured to be heading out to
sea using the new technology of the wondrous ships since she
stated that ‘there are plenty other jewels in the
sea’.
At around midnight, Elaine finally left the bar surprisingly
completely sober even after having drunk so much ale. She was
whistling cheerfully and walking down the streets of Ruby before
stopping at her very own house. She unlocked the door and walked
in, taking off her hat. She placed the hat on a hat hanger
before carrying to walk into the kitchen. It took her a while
before she finally went to her bedroom and let out a loud scream
of sheer terror.
“I-it’s gone! M-m-m-my rucksack! Nooooo!”
Elaine dropped to her knees and cried out in agony. All her
precious jewels and…bricks were gone with the rucksack and
the only person who could have possibly done it was the one she
charged her attack with the whip at and who screeched in shock.
“I…I didn’t mean to! I was told to do
it!” a small blonde girl covered her face with her hands
in defence. She was a familiar character to Elaine – one
known as Rebecke of Shoré or ‘Beck’ just for short.
She was one of the socialites of the Ruby tribes; always into
going out with friends, having the latest products and clothes
without a care in the world.
“And by whom, hmm?” the ale was finally getting to
Elaine as she leaned in with a wicked smirk on her face.
“T-the elders knew you refused a mission so I was
sent!” Beck was still covering her face and shivering like
a rabbit trapped by a fox.
“Those geezers again? Bah! What a waste of time!”
Elaine huffed before finally leaving poor Beck alone and taking
the rucksack Beck did not manage to drag out in time even though
she came here a couple of hours ago…
“Umm…” Beck looked over at Elaine before
leaving, “T-they said they wanted to see you.”
And with those words she finally left Elaine’s house.
What do they possibly want? Elaine jumped on her bed I already
turned down their mission! As soon as Elaine closed her eyes,
she fell asleep almost immediately. She did not dream well that
night having terrible nightmares of being all alone in the sea
during a terrible storm. Night went and morning came just as
fast and soon enough Elaine was already up and about her house.
It wasn’t too long before the Ruby guards burst through
the door and declared they were taking Elaine to see the elders.
If being dragged around the neighbourhood and town was not
embarrassing enough, the guards also announced the following:
“Make way! Wanted criminal coming through!”
This went on for a while until they were finally at whatever
was left of the Ruby Treasury where the elders stood waiting for
Elaine to be dragged down to them.
“Ah… so you finally came to your senses and showed
up!” one of the elders seemed quite pleased.
“But I didn-” Elaine was cut off by another elder.
“Well that is good to know! We finally have a punishment
for you!”
“You have to go after the infamous thief Anastice who
has stolen the Royal Ruby!” the first elder continued.
“I refuse!” Elaine was not giving up.
“We have heard that Anastice set out to sea from the
Bournemouthshire Port so…” the elder gritted his
teeth, “You may use the new ship.”
It took Elaine a few minutes to realise what was going on,
“Pardon?”
“You may set sail but! You must take Beck with you who
shall supervise you and make sure you do not get into anymore
trouble than you already have!” all of the elders declared
in unison as Beck stepped out from behind them now full of
confidence unlike last night when she failed to steal
Elaine’s much treasured rucksack.
“So… I can go to sea?” Elaine’s eyes
lit up with excitement just thinking of the adventures waiting
for her.
“Well technically yes but…” the elders
furrowed their brows but Elaine was already in her own world.
“Out to sea, eh. Hohoho~” Elaine turned while
smiling slyly and rubbing her hands together, “This shall
be fun!”
Elaine grabbed Beck and stormed off to her house to get her
rucksack while the elders watched and thought whether those two
were going to be alright… probably not.
♦♦♦
“Ugh…jees…why…huff…is…this
thing…so heavy?!” Elaine said through tears as she
dragged her rucksack merely out of the Glenton gates and it was
already sunset! Beck did not seem to care too much as she merely
looked in the mirror to check she was as pretty as always.
“Well I did say I would not carry that thing!”
Beck laughed without a care, “Your throwing of furniture
at me was completely unnecessary since it still did not do the
job in the end and you even managed to trash your whole
house!”
“Do
you…huff…ever…stop…talking?!”
Elaine was at her limit as she dragged the rucksack a metre away
from the Glenton gates.
“No, darling!” Beck laughed once again, “I
do not and you are stuck with me for quite a while!”
Little did Elaine know before accepting the mission that
having Beck around was more of a punishment for her than the
trip itself! The whole supervision must have been a mere cover
for the real torture and consequences for her behaviour leading
to shame of the Ruby tribe.
It took Elaine quite a while to drag her rucksack away from
Glenton while it was already night time.
“Aren’t we going to set out a camp?” Beck
lifted her eyebrows in surprise.
“No and why couldn’t they give us some sort of a
method of transport? Those filthy peasants!” Elaine cursed
the elders for the nth time before, “I told you that I
should have found another rucksack slave!”
“Tut-tut, young leader!” Beck waved her index
finger, “At least use the word ‘carrier’! It
sounds so much better… Furthermore, I could not let you
shame the Ruby tribe any further by repeating the same
mistakes!”
“Tch, you’re no fun!” Elaine pouted,
“You know what? I think I shall call you Beckster!”
Since you remind me of a little monster… Elaine dared
not to give her reason.
Beck paused and looked at Elaine curiously, “Have you
ever met the Arch Mage Reidus?”
“No…” Elaine shook her head.
“Well…he used to call me the same thing! How
interesting!” Beck laughed, clearly amused. Yeah well,
maybe that’s just the impression you give to people…
Elaine carried on dragging her rucksack.
They did not rest that night since they still had a long way
to go until they reached the port and they did not have time to
waster as the ship was departing the next day. On their way
though they have noticed a flickering fire in a distance.
“What do you think it is?” Beck pointed in the
fire’s direction.
“A fire?” Elaine offered an option.
“Well, duh” Beck rolled her eyes, “I mean
who do you think is there?”
“We can always find out, peasant!” Elaine gladly
dropped her rucksack and started to skip towards the fire. Beck
shook her head and followed Elaine since she was also curious.
“…stop! You’re adding way to much
salt!” a husky voice could be heard as they approached,
“You’re going to ruin the soup!”
“Oh, shut up! Why don’t you cook it then?!”
a second voice sounding worse than the first snapped back.
“Both of you shut up! I want my food and I want it
now!” a feminine rough voice could be heard and two loud
whack!s. Now Elaine and Beck were sneaking up, careful not to
disturb the unknown voices. Coming closer, they could see that
the three voices in fact belonged to three very hostile-looking
thugs. There were a lot of bones lying around and a single girl
in torn clothes was tied up and sitting not too far from the
cauldron in which the thugs were cooking.
“Is…this the small cannibalistic group of which I
have been hearing about lately?” Beck whispered while
examining the field for any more of those thugs.
“Whaaat? I can’t hear a thing you’re
saying!” Elaine shouted loudly by habit.
“Y-you! You!” Beck gritted her teeth,
“Moron!”
“I think I hear more food somewhere~!” one of the
thugs turned in Elaine’s and Beck’s direction.
“Come at me, bro!” Elaine jumped out from hiding
with her whip withdrawn and her left hand gesturing for the
thugs to come closer. Beck merely yawned, sat down and started
to look in her favourite mirror and pretty herself.
The thugs underestimated Elaine by sending only one of them at
first to ‘take care of her’ – big mistake!
Elaine used her whip to wrap around the thug’s leg and
then pulled hard so the thug fell over and was knocked out in
the process. The other two thugs understood that Elaine was in
fact not someone to take lightly and immediately charged at her.
Elaine merely smirked at the incoming back up as she was merely
getting started! She used her whip to throw the logs which the
thugs used as firewood and started throwing them at the two
thugs. One of them kept dodging while the other was knocked out
by the third log. The last thug standing snarled as he started
to attack Elaine with his fists while Elaine jumped and dodged
his hits. The thug was getting rather annoyed so withdrew his
sword and charged at Elaine. Elaine had no time to dodge; she
had to find something to defend herself and quick! She
eventually found the ladle which the thugs used so was quite
massive and useful to defend with against the sword (the metal
of which the ladle wad made of was in fact surprisingly quite
strong). Elaine jumped and attacked with the ladle (as amusing
as it looked) while the thug had to back down a bit even while
wielding a sword! After about a half an hour brawl, the thug was
exhausted so Elaine used that chance to use her whip once again
to get the sword off the thug (even though there was no need for
that as the thug immediately collapsed due to exhaustion).
Victorious, Elaine turned to find Beck still prettying herself
and not minding the fight scene at all not to mention having no
intention of either joining or lending a helping hand… or
anything at all, to be honest as far as Elaine was concerned!
“Don’t tell me you have been sitting here all this
time like this, peasant!” Elaine furrowed her brows as
Beck for the first time in half an hour looked up at her.
“I’m sorry, did you say something?” Beck
seemed to have finally come back to the real world.
Elaine face palmed herself and muttered something among the
lines of what I put up with… before looking at the still
tied up girl, “You could have at least released the poor
creature!”
“I could but… that takes time and effort
and… I had a mirror” Beck lifted her hands up as if
she was weighing something, “Mirror? Effort? Neeh…I
think you know which one won over, darling.”
“Oh you…” Elaine shook her head as she
approached the poor now shivering girl. Elaine untied her,
“You may go in peace now, Peasant!”
“U-umm…thank you but…I…who are you and
what is this place?” the girl smiled sheepishly,
“More importantly – who am I?”
Elaine stared at her blankly but then a sudden spark lit her
eyes as she grinned evilly, “You are my new Diddicus!
Diddicus VII!”
With those words Elaine put her hand on the new
‘Did’s shoulder. The girl seemed unsure but she did
not really have the right to question or deny anything in her
current situation so she just smiled with her eyebrows lifted
making her look quite pitiful.
“Alright!” Beck finally approached, “Now
that you have found your new
pet…slave…thing…let us get going!”
It was uncertain whether the new Did’s origins would be
discovered (which was very unlikely) but one thing was for sure
– Elaine did not have to carry the rucksack full of her
mostly useless items anymore so they proceeded faster and by
dawn were at the Bournemouthshire Port. To everyone’s
surprise – the new Did in fact could carry the rucksack
with no problems at all! She could lift the rucksack with great
ease putting Elaine to shame who has been dragging it for quite
a while without getting anywhere far… Although her clothes
did not provide a very nice view of the travelling group since
she looked like a poor kidnapped kid who was forced into
slavery; the heavy rucksack also did not help and made the
situation seem even worse especially with Elaine’s
terrible reputation to enslave peasants and force them to carry
her heavy belongings. Soon enough though, Beck made it seem a
little bit less barbaric by purchasing more suitable clothes for
Did so that at least she looked decent and not beaten by her new
master.
The three boldly walked towards the magnificent ship standing
at the port. Although it was rumoured that it had new
technology, it still had sails since it made the ship look
more…fancy. The sails were pure white with the crest of
the Ruby tribe on them clearly displaying who the ship belonged
to. The ship was surprisingly still made of wood and not metal
like Elaine had hoped it to be. There seemed nothing special
about the ship yet inside it had something very special hidden
inside.
As Elaine approached the board which led on the ship, she was
stopped by a sailor, “Where d’ya think yer
goin’, missy?”
“On the ship?” Elaine pointed at the ship.
“Hah! As if I would believe that!” the sailor
laughed a hearty laugh.
“We are scheduled do travel on this ship, dear”
Beck stepped in front, smiling politely as usual.
“The only people scheduled here today…” the
sailor took out a scroll out of his pocket and checked,
“Are two Rubians known as the ‘Leader’ and
‘Beck’.”
“That’s us!” Elaine proudly announced while
lifting her right hand up.
“Pff, yeah right! These are obviously supposed to be
male, not female! Now scram!” the sailor pushed the three
away from the ship and carried on his guard duty.
“This is sexism, you dirty peasant!” Elaine kept
shouting as Beck and Did dragged her away.
“Hush, hush, now!” Beck smiled slyly as she lifted
her right index finger to her mouth, “If it is males they
want, it is males they’ll get!”
Elaine looked at Beck as if she has gone crazy while Beck
smiled even wider as a plan of most wickedness formed in her
head.

~ Chapter 3 ~
~ Devil’s Luck ~
Mornings at the Bournemouthshire Port were always busy and
this morning was no exception. Trade was going well with many
stands running their businesses and merchants selling their
products to the clueless customers. A woman was looking at some
particular jewellery before noticing that everyone around her
was staring and pointing at something in awe. She turned to see
for herself before freezing on the spot due to the scene in
front of her.
Three ridiculously dressed personas walked straight through
the market streets looking rather confident. The one in the
middle wore a bright crimson hat with a white feather; their
crimson clothes seemed to be made of the finest silks and made
them seem to be part of nobility. Close behind ‘him’
on the right was another ‘man’ who had a big bushy
beard and eyebrows. ‘He’ wore a simpler outfit
– one befitting a servant and carried a rather large and
by the looks of it heavy rucksack. The third ‘man’
on the left seemed to walk with elegance with no match.
‘He’ had the most ridiculous costume of them all
– a bright purple and red outfit which seemed to shine and
sparkle in the daylight with matching sunglasses and a lot of
jewellery such as ‘his’ rings although the most
noticeable and ridiculous part was ‘his’ moustache
which was bright pink and stood out even in a crowd of people.
The three were approached by a small and big-boned woman who
looked around before talking to them, “Pst…you
wouldn’t be interested in… Selttiks now would you? I
specialise in the Rous ones…”
Right before them stood a Selttiks dealer – one who
traded those things known by some as the rainbow pills. She had
really curly blonde hair with massive round earrings while
wearing an outfit befitting a gypsy.
“Sorry, not interested” the ‘man’ with
the pink moustache replied who seemed to be the most likely to
be interested in them judging from ‘his’
outfit…
“Suit yourselves…” the woman disappeared
into the crowd just as she appeared.
As the three walked down further down the street, the
‘man’ who seemed to be the leader sighed and said
under ‘his’ breath, “So this is your brilliant
and most ingenious plan, hmm?”
The ‘man’ with the moustache replied in the same
manner, “I did not see you come up with any better
ideas!”
“Yeah well…there’s the problem with
uhm…our looks gathering rather a lot of unnecessary
attention” the ‘man’ in the middle coughed as
‘he’ looked around at all the people gawking at the
trio.
“You’re imagining things” the moustache
‘man’ replied chuckling, “And what’s
wrong with these outfits?”
“Well…the outfits are nice but…then
there’s this” the middle ‘man’ gestured
at first the moustache ‘man’ then at
‘his’ moustache.
“You have something against my moustache?” the
moustache ‘man’’s aura seemed to darken.
“Not at all!” the other ‘man’ tried to
justify ‘himself’, “Now I would understand why
you would want a moustache but why pink?”
“Why not?” the moustache ‘man’ did not
understand what the other ‘man’ had against his
appearance.
“…Good point” the middle ‘man’
sighed, giving up. The trio seemed to have been heading towards
the ship which was soon to depart from the port and was being
delayed as the main passengers had yet to arrive.
The three were nearing their destination when the
‘man’ in the middle bumped into someone who fell
over and the things they carried scattered everywhere.
“Oh dear! So sorry, peasant!” the
‘man’ started to gather the things the other person
dropped who was in fact a girl.
“Peasant?” the ‘man’ quickly looked up
as he recognised the cold piercing voice and found a girl with
brown hair and cold brown eyes staring at ‘him’ as
if she wanted to kill ‘him’, “Don’t look
down on me, you narcissist pheasant!”
The ‘man’ froze with a face displaying clear
shock. The girl in front of ‘him’ was none other
than the famous sharp-tongued Amberian girl Rita Pendragon! She
was known to be a cold person preferring a company of none but
herself hence was known to be a ‘lone wolf’. She was
also known as a bookworm since she shut herself mostly in the
Grand Library where she was secluded from the outside world. If
anyone ever witnessed her laugh or even smile – they would
be in shock since that was a very rare sight next to impossible!
Some believed that she should have belonged to either Sapphire
tribe or the Topaz tribe due to her love of books and
cold-bloodedness. There were in fact even rumours that she was a
soulless demon due to her mastery of swordsmanship and
cold-blooded style of killing or defeating her opponents in less
than five seconds.
“Now, now!” the moustache ‘man’
stepped in front, “There is no need to fight,
children!”
Rita glared at her while she muttered something under her
breath.
“What was that?” the moustache ‘man’
glared back at Rita, “If you have something to say, say it
to my face!”
“Get lost, transvestite” Rita mouthed as she
snatched back her belongings and walked off leaving the
moustache ‘man’ standing with ‘his’
mouth wide open from shock of hearing such an insult.
“Good old Rita… She never changes…”
the ‘man’ in the hat shook ‘his’ head
before having to drag the moustache ‘man’ who seemed
to turn into stone from the shock.
When they finally reached the ship, it was about to depart.
The sailor from before noticed them and came up to them,
“And who might ye be, gentlemen?”
“I am the future leader of the Ruby tribe,” the
‘man’ with the hat introduced ‘himself’
while lifting ‘his’ hand to 'his' heart,
“Ellancelot Explorer at your service!”
“Ah…you have finally arrived and just in
time!” a small and chubby man ran down the dock to greet
them, “I am the captain of this ship! Welcome!
Welcome!”

The captain examined the group of travellers and lifted his
bushy brows in surprise, “I was told that there would only be
two people!”
“Ah well… It was rather sudden but we needed another person”
Ellancelot smiled sheepishly before introducing each person.
‘He’ lifted his hand and gestured at the ‘man’ with the
moustache, “This is Beck of Shoré and this…” ‘he’ then moved on
to introduce the ‘man’ with the rucksack, “Is dear Diddicus VII;
‘Did’ for short.”
“I see! I see! It is a pleasure to meet you!” the captain
shook both his hands with Did and Beck at the same time. He
seemed to be a simple friendly man and not too bossy; how he
became a captain was a mystery, “Well let us board Titunac!”
“…I’m sorry what?” Ellancelot blinked a couple of times.
“Ah… I do love tuna so I named it Titunac!” the captain
laughed, “It just sounded better than plain St Tuna!”
The captain mumbled Having the name declined has nothing to do
with it…
It was not long before they have finally boarded the ship and
set sail. After asking around, Ellancelot found out that they
were heading towards the new lands which were discovered in the
West as it was rumoured that Anastice has fled there. The
journey seemed going to be a long one although there were some
troubles on the way…
♦♦♦
“Cheers!” everyone lifted their mugs full of ale before
drinking it merrily. Ellancelot was one of the people while Beck
and Did were nowhere to be seen in the sea cabin which was
rather large.
“Ellancelot, my man, you sure are greeeat! Haha!” one of the
sailors laughed, already quite drunk.
“Aww, shucks” Ellancelot laughed, still quite sober! The night
was long and full of songs until most of the sailors and
passengers in the sea cabin were either passed out or already
left; everyone except Ellancelot, that is.
Ellancelot decided to go outside to breathe in some sea
breeze. When she finally came up to the ship deck, she noticed
that Beck was standing by the gunwale and looking somewhere far
off into the sea. Ellancelot approached Beck and put her hands
into her pockets since it was a bit chilly.
“So…Seen anything interesting?” Ellancelot tried to start a
conversation. Beck did not respond and kept staring ahead.
Silence befell on them as they could hear the sea and how the
ship collided with the incoming waves.
Before the silence could get any more unbearable, Ellancelot
tried to find another subject which might interest Beck, “So
what do you usually do in your spare time? I bet it would be
something like your nails, right?”
This made Beck turn her head to stare at Ellancelot as if she
just noticed Ellancelot’s presence for the first time, “Huh?”
“I mean what else would you do?” Ellancelot shrugged, “Go on
missions and explore different places?”
“No…nothing exciting like that…” Beck seemed quite serious and
quite upset for once, “I… am usually secluded in the Treasury or
have to do odd jobs around Glenton so…”
“So your life is not very exciting?” Ellancelot guessed while
Beck nodded, “Is that why you volunteered to go on this
journey?”
Beck smiled apologetically, “Yeah, that is my original reason
but this is actually quite fun…”
“Haha!” Ellancelot laughed, “This is nothing, peasant! The
journey is merely beginning!”
And so the two stared out to sea wondering what the future had
in store for them while hoping themselves it would be great
enjoyable adventures but little did they know that was not the
case. It was already quite dark so they decided to head in, not
noticing a ship with black sails sailing closer and closer
towards their own…

Meh, still not done with the chapter

♦♦♦
The moon was covered by the dark clouds and there seemed to be
a storm stirring up. Everyone was either sound asleep or working
around the ship. The prevailing winds increased their power and
the waves became more violent while colliding with the ship as
if wanting to engulf it whole.
What no one has noticed that night was that stealthily and
silently there were some intruders climbing on board. The
intruders seemed to vanish into the shadows as soon as someone
walked by them; they were very skilful as if they were some
professional thieves or assassins meaning they had a lot of
similar past experiences.
One of the sailors was working and minding his own business
when he noticed something moving in the shadow. Unluckily for
him, he decided to investigate and approached the figure which
seemed to be distracted by looking the other way. The sailor
approached the figure and was about to ask who they were and
what they were doing when suddenly he realised and shouted
before he was killed one single word of who he has caught
sneaking around the ship:
“PIRATES!”
There was some commotion as everyone woke up only to find
swords and knives near their throats while a bunch of pirates
grinned maniacally. The crew was led on the main deck where they
were all tied up by the laughing pirates. The other ship with
the black sails was now visibly at the invaded ship’s starboard.
A long plank joined the two ships on which was now walking
someone from the pirate ship. It was a large man who seemed to
be the captain with a large red hat with jewels encrusted in it.
He wore clothes which would have suited a noble (they were most
likely ‘borrowed’ from one) with a black and orange colour
scheme but were tattered and dirty due to his lifestyle.
“Arr, what have we here” the pirate captain laughed a
blood-chilling laugh. He seemed to be a cruel man since cruelty
was written all over his face (not to mention many battle scars
and a wild bushy beard which seemed nor black nor gray).
“You! What do you want from us?!” the small captain of the
Titunac ship shouted (as he was also tied up), “This ship has
nothing precious to transfer so why are you attacking us?!”
“Hoho, we have a daredevil over here!” the pirate captain
withdrew his massive long sword and came closer to the other
captain, “Let’s just say this is just a little commission from a
dear old friend.”
“HAAAAAAA–” a loud battle cry was heard, “YAAAAAH!!!”
Something swinging on a rope knocked into the pirate captain
causing him to be thrown back and hitting the foremast rather
hard. Down jumped the brave saviour with her whip in her hand
while pointing with her other hand at the pirate captain.
“Foul dirty peasants! How dare you get on our ship and disturb
our marvellous journey?!” it was none other than Ellancelot, the
Ruby-leader-to-be.
The pirate captain growled and stood up. He grabbed his hat
with the tip of his fingers to show off the jewels as he said,
“I see you are the one I was warned about! I, Captain
Not-so-Black Beard, shall take you down at once!”
As Ellancelot saw the sparkling jewels on the ruby hat, she
has gone berserk. The following action was too gory and violent
to describe as the pirate captain was completely annihilated in
less than a minute while the crew and the pirates watched in
horror as the pirate captain’s body was thrown off the ship with
only the hat remaining in the blood-stained Ellancelot’s hand as
she grinned like a victorious devil.
“I leave Ellancelot for a couple of minutes unsupervised and
this is what happens?!” Beck yawned as she rubbed her eyes as
she climbed down the mast; it seems she was sleeping the crow’s
nest for the sake of being more adventurous. As she saw the crew
and the pirates shivering in fear while staring at Ellancelot,
Beck sighed understanding the situation as soon as she saw the
hat, “Ah…Not his again…”
Everyone turned to look at Beck who explained what was going
on, “It is rumoured that Ellancelot goes berserk as soon as
sh-‘he’ sees a person with a larger or more elegant hat than
hers. I suppose I should have warned everyone weak hearted to
turn away from the gory scene…Oh well! Too late now!”
Ellancelot took off her hat, walked over to Did (turns out she
was eating some stolen biscuits in one of the barrels so she was
not caught; she came out when she heard all the commotion) who
was watching her with puppy dog eyes in admiration (strangely
instead of fear) and put the hat on her while Ellancelot instead
replaced the spot on her head where her previous hat was with
the pirate captain’s one before returning to ‘normal’. She
turned to face the pirates who jumped in fear of her gaze
expecting their fate to be similar to their captain’s but were
surprised to see a smile.
“Well, you dirty peasants, what now, hmm?” Ellancelot kept
smiling as she approached the pirates who were starting to
shiver in fear, “Whatever shall I do with you…”
“U-umm…s-since y-you killed the previous captain…you have t-to
be t-the next o-one…” one of the pirates stuttered. Ellancelot
lifted her eyebrows in shock as her eyes became larger but then
lit up with excitement.
Ellancelot turned to Did and rashly said, “Do you know what
that means?! Do you know what that means?!”
Did replied with a blank expression which everyone else had on
their faces as well.
“It means I can finally explore the Seven Seas as I like!”
Ellancelot nearly danced as she passionately held up her right
hand up with her fingers curling as if she was holding an object
while her left hand was placed just below her neck. Her
excitement was very evident with her eyes shining as bright as
the stars full of hope.
“Wait! Wait! Wait!” Beck raised her hand in protest, “You have
a mission, remember?!”
“Pff, we can do that as a side-quest” Ellancelot made a face
as she remembered her original reason which allowed her to go on
this journey.
“A what?” Beck shook her head, “No, we must remember to focus
on the task!”
“Don’t be so boring, peasant” Ellancelot folded her arms like
a spoiled child. She was not backing down and it was obvious.
In the end – Ellancelot, Did and Beck left the Titunac ship
which was going to carry on with its journey as the trio now had
their own pirate ship to operate! Ellancelot as the captain
could find out everything the pirates knew about the seas and of
any rumours regarding the infamous thief Anastice. While they
did not know her exact location, they did know of someone who
would know which was the Old Sea Hag residing deep inside the
Caverns of Doom. As inviting as the name sounded, Ellancelot
declared that it would be the next destination and so they set
sail, ignorant of the danger awaiting them.
♦♦♦
Little did everyone know that someone was spying on them
during the pirate scene. As soon as Ellancelot was declared
captain and found out about the Old Sea Hag, the figure left the
ship and jumped into the ocean. They swam for quite a bit until
they reached a ship quite far away from the other two with
similar black sails but with golden threads. The figure climbed
up as they put back on their green scarf and beret handed to
them since they did not want it to get wet.
“I see they have failed” a cold voice said as a shadow formed
into a figure of a man in robes. It was merely a shadow though
and the only thing visible was the glowing of the deadly red
eyes.
“I am afraid so” Anastice said dryly, clearly also displeased
with the situation. She lifted the corpse of the pirate captain
which she brought along with her, “What should I do with this
useless garbage?”
“…He is not worth our effort” the shadow replied, “Besides, we
are busy with the Pendragon resurrection anyway and it is taking
longer than we expected.”
“I guess then we don’t need this” Anastice said coldly as she
tossed the corpse overboard for the sharks to feast on, “What do
we do now?”
“Don’t you worry about minor details!” the shadow said, “We
shall take care of the foolish tribe leader while you carry on
with the task!”
“Understood” Anastice said as the shadow disappeared. She
walked over towards the bowsprit and stared ahead towards the
next destination. It was not going to be easy and was going to
be quite hot.

~ Chapter 4 ~
~ No Turning Back ~
Although Ellancelot now had a better idea of where exactly
they were heading, it would still take a while until they have
actually arrived. There were quite a few odd situations among
the journey however…
♦♦♦
“We’re…what?” Ellancelot could not
believe her ears! This phrase would always frighten her nearly
to death.
“I’m afraid this is serious…” Beck
muttered deep in thought.
“No…more?” Did seemed as if she was about to
cry.
“Yes…I’m afraid that we…” the
pirate took in a deep breath before repeating what he had said
earlier, “We are out of food!”
As shocking as it was and as hard as it hit Ellancelot, the
pirate ship turned out to have run out of food since it
‘mysteriously’ disappeared during the night. The
most likely suspects of course were Beck and Did since
Ellancelot as the captain was out of the question. Of course
Ellancelot as the captain did excuse the two even if they were
or were not guilty since they were her friends. The new problem
now was where they were going to get the food from.
“There are some nearby islands we could raid it
from…” one of the pirates suggested. The pirates
were in fact a branch tribe of the Topaz tribe so therefore they
were either former assassins, thieves or ninjas so they knew a
lot about not only raiding but how to do it without anyone
noticing.
“We cannot steal from others!” Beck started to
protest.
“But are we not pirates now?” Ellancelot asked,
“Does it not go under our new job description?”
“…Our what?” Beck was once again confused by
the terms Ellancelot used (and there were a lot of them).
There was no decision made as to how the food was going to be
gathered but at least the destination was set for the nearest
islands. There were some crazy ideas such as performing on the
street to gather money and therefore buy food; sell the jewelled
hat which Ellancelot wore (the idea was dismissed immediately
after the stare of the captain made them faint); some had even
the idea of renting slaves for a day (slaves being the pirates,
of course)! In the end, they have arrived while still arguing
which plan to use. Coincidentally, Titunac was also around there
while gathering some supplies. It so happened that they arrived
for the day of some island’s festival where there was a
large feast and best of all – for free! That’s when
Ellancelot’s plan was born…
♦♦♦
“How exactly are they going to be fooled by this?”
Beck could not help but ask in annoyance.
“Stop worrying your pretty little head, peasant!”
Ellancelot snapped back, “If I say it works, it works! It
is my plan after all!”
Ellancelot, Beck and Did as well as the pirates all had green
paint on their faces and were covered in palm tree leaves making
them look like some strange exotic bushes (even if they stood
out while the purpose was the opposite). Many people stared at
them but dismissed them as lunatics and kept passing by without
causing an uproar since it would have been too much trouble.
“Alright!” Ellancelot announced, “Bush
squad, move out!”
Just as Ellancelot said this, the ‘bushes’
scattered around and stood perfectly still around the tables
full of food meant for the feast. As the guests have arrived,
they did not pay attention to the bushes standing around the
tables since they believed them to be mere decorations. Little
by little the food began to disappear as the guests ate while
enjoying the show of fire swords displayed to them. Of course
what they did not know was that the food was also disappearing
as hands from the bushes took it inside them as well. More food
had to be brought but it just kept disappearing!
Ellancelot’s plan was working perfectly if it were not for
one minor problem:
“What is this?” one of the guests noticed
something sticking out of the bush – a massive red hat to
be precise. As soon as they took off the hat, the bush rose
while screeching in madness:
“Let go of my hat, you filthy dirty peasant!!!”
Everyone gasped as they saw some legs below the bush and hands
sticking out at the sides. Some even fainted while others took
out some weapons shouting ‘Demon!’. The
‘bush’ walked over to the front and once again
shouted:
“If anyone dares to touch my hat again, I shall curse
them!”
The crowd started to murmur as they were unsure of what action
to take. Some believed it was some demon while others claimed a
bush was possessed by a demon or a deity. Although the threats
and the cursing made everyone think it was more demon-related
rather than holy.
The pirates in the bushes took advantage of the new
distraction and gathered as much food as possible since they
figured it was time to leave.
“Who are you and what do you want, foul
creature?!” the people shouted at Ellancelot who was the
person who was the cause of all the attention.
“Umm…I am your new God?” Ellancelot laughed
nervously.
“Lies!” the people shouted in protest. Just as
they shouted, the mountain behind them let out a deafening sound
as the ground started to shake violently.
Ellancelot used this chance as an advantage, “You have
now awakened my wrath! Err…You dare doubt the great Fire
God?!”
At her words, the mountain suddenly erupted spitting out a lot
of lava and ash. Everyone screamed in horror as they saw what
was happening. Ellancelot herself was shocked by the entire
event and made a run for it. Who could have predicted a volcano
eruption of all things! Sure there were quite a few signs but
the people around the island took absolutely no notice of this.
Hot ash started to flow out of the volcano, destroying
everything on its path.
Titunac’s captain was peacefully walking towards his
ship, ready to set sail anytime soon while he carried the last
supplies. Just then someone ran past him shouting:
“OUT OF MY WAY, PEASANT!!!”
Followed by a bunch of islanders who all ran on to the ship.
The most ridiculous part wasn’t how they all fitted on but
how they were followed by a bunch of running bushes. The captain
nearly fainted at the sight but after looking back, realised
what was happening and ran on the ship as well.
“Captain! Captain!” a bewildered Ellancelot still
looking like a bush ran up to the captain, “Start that
special engine of yours! This is an emergency!”
The captain could no longer bear with the ridiculousness of
the situation and asked no further questions in order to keep
his sanity. He ordered for the engines to be turned on just as
the flow of hot ash and gasses was near them. As soon the engine
was turned on, the ship set sail on maximum speed which was
quite amazing! They were heading away from the island quite fast
(they could have gone faster if it was not for the pirate ship
which was tied to Titunac thanks to Ellancelot). When they were
finally at a safe distance, the islanders all bowed down before
Ellancelot.
“We apologise for our rudeness, oh Great Fire
God!” the islanders all shouted. Ellancelot was quite
taken aback but got used to it pretty quickly. There were many
islands around so they left the islanders on one of them to live
on. They managed around pretty quickly actually although there
were some troubles with the current inhabitants which were
solved by a club and a few hits. Soon enough there was another
great feast with something extra. There were some strange foods
and one of them in particular interested Ellancelot – one
known as ‘pie’. Her crew in fact took quite a liking
for them so she re-named them is pie-rates.

Meh, once again not a finished chapter

♦♦♦
“Sigh! What troublesome pie-rates!” Ellancelot once again
sighed as she watched the ‘pie-rates’ gobble down many pies. The
very same pies were lying around everywhere on the main deck and
it seemed as if they would never end. Nonetheless Ellancelot has
ordered for them to be taken away to prevent the shock of having
to find out that they did not have anymore food (she would not
be able to survive it the second time!).
Luckily for Ellancelot, their location was not too far from
where the Old Sea Hag was meant to be and soon enough they were
reaching the Caverns of Doom if it was not for another incident
the troublesome crew encountered…
♦♦♦
“I sure caught a big one this time, I tell ye’!” one of the
pie-rates beamed as he tried to drag up a net from the ocean. He
seemed to struggle so a few more pie-rates ran up to him to help
drag up the catch. Ellancelot quite loved sea food so catching a
few fish here and there was always a good sign. What they did
not expect was that their catch would be a creature most
incredible! Right before their eyes lay a creature known in
those times as a mermaid. The creature, although having the
upper body seem close to a humanoid, had the bottom of its body
resemble a tail of a fish. The creature hissed at the shocked
pie-rates.
“W-what the heck is this thing…?” one of the ignorant
pie-rates poked the creature with a broom while the creature
hissed once again.
“Release me, foolish humans!” the creature hissed while eyeing
the pie-rates evilly.
“Should we cook it?” another ignorant pie-rate ignored the
creature completely as he pointed at it, “I mean it came from
the sea so it must be edible, right?”
“Well you don’t eat sharks, do ya?!” another pie-rate hit the
previous one on the head, “So why would we eat this thing?”
“W-well we could eat sharks if we wanted to…right?” the
pie-rate scratched his head.
“Are you blind, fools?!” the creature snarled, “I am a
mermaid! It is forbidden to eat me! I shall curse you all!”
“Should we grill it or boil it?” the pie-rates continued to
ignore the creature, “Or is she the Old Sea Hag we’ve been
looking for?”
“Neh, too far away from the Caverns, it is!”
The discussion only got worse as the pie-rates started to
argue how to cook the creature. Some shouted “Boil!” while some
“Grill!”; this went on for quite a while until the creature
could not take it anymore and shouted.
“All of you, SHUT UP!” this has startled the pie-rates who
looked at the creature as if they only noticed its presence just
now, “I shall curse you all! CURSE, I SA–!”
“Quiet, you!” Beck stepped on the creature to shut it up. She
came to see what all the commotion was about only to find the
pie-rates arguing about cooking methods, “What is all this
stupidity while you’re supposed to be working?!”
“B-but!” the pie-rates sniffled.
“No buts!” Beck said firmly while the creature beneath her
foot was boiling with anger.
“You…dirty…dare touch me?!” the creature shrieked as it broke
through the net with its sharp claws (which seemed to grow out
to about thirty centimetres) and jumped up into the air,
surprisingly staying there as it hovered above the deck about
three meters up before pointing its bony finger at Beck, “You
have made a grave mistake!”
“Hah! Whatever can you possibly do? Slap me with your tail?”
Beck laughed while holding the back of her hand to cover her
mouth clearly looking down on the creature (well up but…you know
what I mean!), “You cannot win against my beauty anyway!”
The creature grinned manically, “Oh? That can be easily taken
care of!”
With a click of its fingers, a large sea wave crushed into the
ship, taking the creature back while everyone was soaked. As
everyone coughed and gasped for some air, they jumped in
surprise as they saw that in place of Beck now lay a large
marlin! It was flopping about like…well a fish (which it was)!
The pie-rates stared at it in astonishment while one of them
scratched their head and said, “So…do we cook this now?”
