I didn't get home until just now (9:00 p.m.) And U see you
haven't logged on today Dave....A bit worried and am hoping it's
just lack of Internet on your end, and not loss of power or
something worse.
Pulling for you Buddy.....Check in when you can....
:(

I got power maybe 5 pm or so. But no internet at first. Then I
just tried it. My A/C wouldn't come on. I've had it about 22
years so if it has to be replaced I can't complain. I was
trying out my stereo - a receiver and a CD player. It kept
cutting off and cutting back on. Then I played my Yamaha digital
piano - my living room piano - it kept cutting off and back on.
I wondered if that power company was doing some sort of
juggling act with the power, trying to get problems sorted out.
I have no damage to my house (except for the A/C). There are
some trees down, deep in the back of my back yard. They will
need to be cut up. I'm sure there will be some freelance tree
dudes around in the coming weeks. Regarding flooding, I think
some newer development has been done on ground that shouldn't
have been used. I'm thinking they used the most suitable land
first - 50 years ago, or whenever. Now they've run out of the
decent stuff.
Hope Bucky fares well in greater Atlanta.

Very anti-climatic here. Wife's work was cancelled for today and
tomorrow. No power loss, and the only visible damage I saw
outside was a bunch of leaves blow off the trees.

Well I'm glad both you guys are ok. if you had some power surges
Dave they may have damaged the equipment you mentioned. Not sure
how old you furnace is but if it has a standing pilot chances
are it doesn't have any electronic boards in it to fry, may have
just fried your T-Stat or the control transformer.
The fact that your stereo is cutting in and out however, tells
me you've got a voltage drop..Maybe under voltage via the
transmission lines, or a main breaker that is trying to fail on
you...Could also be the reason your A/C isn't coming on. If the
control transformer for it isn't getting at least 110 volts to
it, it can't produce the 24 volts it needs to operate the
controls for the A/C system.....But I digress...Long distance
troubleshooting.....

My next door neighbor told me we (from my house down about 6
more houses) have 33% power. I have small trees down way in the
back of my back yard. And there is at least one tree against
the power lines. So I may be the culprit. Same neighbor pointed
out that the power guys (Orlando Utilities Commission in my
specific case) prioritize who gets power restored when. If, in
this case, there are only say 10-15 houses on this circuit, we
may get put last. They've said they're hoping to get all of
Orlando area power restored by Friday night.
I talked to a guy (a guy BTW who's done much of my renovations
in the last 22 years) about the weird power issue. He said
that anything with a motor, like say the fridge, can be damaged
with the power going up and down. So I turned the circuit
breaker off for the fridge. I stopped using everything except a
few lights and living room ceiling fan. The "guy" just
mentioned is supposed to come by today and check my meter and
what not. The ONE thing I do know is not to start cutting up
trees laying against power lines.
I've not been using my laptop, but just happened to think of my
Samsung tablet (with a keyboard) - which I'm using right now. I
put 6 AA batteries in my Yamaha Reface CP (a.k.a. tiny
keyboard) and play it some. Also been reading Al Kooper's book
"Backstage Passes and Backstabbing Bastards", his autobio which
seems to actually have been written by him. He was in the
middle of so much R&R history it's almost staggering. Reading
his take on things shows how much ambition comes into play. He
ended up playing on "Like A Rolling Stone" by finagling (sp?)
his way boldly, using his friendship with Tom Wilson (producer)
to get himself in the door. Then somehow almost forced himself
into the session.
Hope all's OK with all of you.

I'm good, if tired and overworked at the moment...Sorry you're
power sit is below par...That's what it sounded like to
me....Hope you get full juice soon!
I think I've got Al Kooper's solo debut album on vinyl
somewhere...I remember being less than impressed with it though.
He produced a lot of famous acts, including Lynyrd Skyryd.
I want to say he was with "Electric Flag" during the Bloomfield
glory days but wouldn't swear to it.

They cut our partial power completely off Thursday afternoon.
Then on Friday disconnected a damaged cable and replaced it (as
I understand it anyway). I got power Friday afternoon. I
turned on my Yamaha piano (living room piano) and got some
actual playing time in. I had my 1st and 3rd Friday assisted
living facility (ALF) gig last night. My playing form was intact
thankfully and the gig went fine.
I have trees in the (wayback area of) my back yard. Someone
looked at it and quoted 400-500 bucks (with another $80 for his
helper) to cut and clear the debris. I'll probably help him.
Considering with the partial power I'd had, I was worried about
electrical circuit or meter damage. But the everything seems to
work fine. My digital TV antenna works - I'm picking up TV
broadcasts.
A friend brought me his leftover ice on Thursday night since he
had restored power. I had my power completely cut Thursday
afternoon (remember). A thunder storm broke out when he was
driving over here. So he waited for it to die down. We sat in
the living room chatting, watching the storm out my open living
room windows thru the blinds. I had a mental image of "Key
Largo" with Humphrey Bogart. Another image I had previously
during daylight hours was being a child in the 1960's before air
conditioning was common and then later universal. Hearing (my
beloved) birds outside the window. Hearing car doors slamming.
Opening the windows and being in touch with the sounds of my
world brought back my childhood.
I put 6 AA batteries in my tiny keyboard (Yamaha Reface CP) and
played some. I pulled out my Beatles Fakebook (published by Hal
Leonard - highly recommended). I worked on learning (to be able
to sing and play) "Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except for
Me and My Monkey" , which caught my ears recently. Still
working on it. The difficulties involve the syncopated intro
then going into the verse with the syncopation changing.
Tricky. Trying to embed it in my brain by rote repetition.
I flipped the pages of the fackebook and noticed "Good Morning
Good Morning" from Sgt. Pepper. I've always liked that song.
So I worked on learning it too. Again, the rhythmic phrasing is
tricky. According to the fakebook transcription much of GMGM is
in 5/4. Tricky. So I'll keep working on these 2 songs. It's
part of a vague effort to learn what are to me, some of Lennon's
better, but often ignored stuff.
Don't know if I'll ever be performing these 2 songs for anyone,
but I keep plugging along, preparing. I believe you have to
keep working on your craft. It has to be done for the pleasure
in the work. If there is a payoff later, in being able to
actually perform them, so much the better.
I trashed pretty much everything in the refrigerator/freezer.
It was an opportunity to clean the inside surfaces of the
fridge. I'm not the best housekeeper and the fridge need a good
wipedown inside.
I do honestly worry about the future the weather holds. I've
always been a saver. Saved up my money, then figured out what I
wanted to buy. I never felt comfortable running up credit. I
feel like the silly debate between climate deniers (scientists
are not to be believed) and climate change believers is similar
to a credit card vs. save your money mentality. Saving is
inconvenient. It means doing without things for the moment.
That's what making consumer lifestyle changes would involve -
delayed gratification. It's much more fun to spend like a
bunch of drunken sailors. Fuck it though. Mother nature will
win in the end. And all the fucking prayers in the world will
have NO effect. Silly scientists.

Glad to hear your on your way back to normalcy Dave.
Mother Nature is at once the source of all things good, and the
meanest bitch of all.

Bloomfield cooked up Electric Flag. Kooper said EF was created
in the spirit of Stax-Volt. Kooper's brainchild was Blood,
Sweat & Tears. He wanted BS&T to be something different - to
be free to experiment and not be a copy of a particular
genre/style. I never much cared for BS&T based on their 2 or 3
hit singles. But I should check them out again just to hear
what they were about. I don't think I liked Kooper's singing
either.

A fella name of David Clayton Thomas was BS&T's singer. I
thought he had am amazing voice, and not the type usually
associated with music like BS&T's sort of rocked up R&B.
