We're doing Wed afternoon. Her mom brings her and sits on the
sofa. It's handy having mom here. She participates. She
recently started soccer and my sister told me she was going to
have to quit lessons. But then her mom texted me asking about
showing up 30 minutes early - in other words she'd not planned
to quit. Interesting, because my sister talked to the child's
(named Emory) DAD. So he'd figured she'd need to quit music
sessions. But apparently dad and mom hadn't had a conversation.
Anyway I'm actually excited to do this because I want to try
and instill a foundation for playing by ear. I really feel it's
an important skill that's often ignored. So she's my guinea
       pig.
I have a Disney Fake Book (published by Hal Leonard). I think
I'll have them help me identify any songs they'd like to play
along with in "music class". And YouTube is an amazing resource.
You (Luke) might find some guitar teaching tips. I've got her
practicing "Hot Cross Buns" on the black keys (did I already
mention this). My experiment later on will be to get her to
play a bass line (I know I already said this about Prudence).
       But maybe a bass line of let's say C - Eb - F - the
individual notes, not chords. And I'll improvise some sort of
blues with my right hand. I have tried it with her - just for
3040-40 seconds. I mentioned last time that she can't do it yet
       - but will be able to later on. She said "maybe when I'm
       5"...and maybe she will.
