It was 55 degrees in my house this morning

Luckily, I had a new hot surface ignitor on the shelf for just
       such an eventuality.
Having to call a hvac technician in on Christmas day would have
       sucked.

Two or three years ago I Googled the most common failures for my
style of furnace, and the two that came up were the flame sensor
and the ignitor. Both parts cost less than $100 combined, so it
seemed like not a bad idea to have one of each kicking around,
just in case. They're both really easy do replace, too. A couple
of screws and a Molex connector. Tuesday I shall go to the parts
store and pick up another ignitor.

Pays to think ahead. I have a gas furnace, but no spare parts
handy for it beyond capacitors for the blower motor, which I use
regularly for smaller condenser fan motors on the job. But
heating is not generally emergency situation down here.
