Funny...there was a Chinese place me and the guys at work used
to love called Soon Yun Gee. Of course it quickly morphed into
Sum Yung Guy with all of us. Wasn't a buffet like most noodle
joints down here but a regular sit down and order place. A small
place on the southeast side of town, next to the Gulf freeway
The food was great, and more than reasonably priced. A big plate
of General Tso's chicken, fried rice and a bowl of Won Ton for
       $5.
It was a family run business, and the family was sumthin' else.
The waitresses ran the gamut from lithe young Asian girls to
middle aged mamas with the lines in their faces from breaking
their backs trying to make in the round eyes world. They all had
forced smiles when taking your orders and were polite to the
point of pain.....But when they'd go back to give the orders to
the cooks...They'd yell like banshees to the cooks...Who'd
       bellow back like rabid pugs.
I can't count the times we'd be in there, hearing the cooks yell
at each other in Chinese. Two different occasions I swear they
were going at each other, pots crashing around, glass breaking.
Blood curdling screams....Then the waitress would come up with
that forced smile, "More water? More tea for Sirs?"
More than one time they'd come to our table and had to know we'd
been laughing our asses off at the scenes in the back we were
imagining. No break in composure from the staff though...The
forced smiles, the absolute politeness...Like everything was as
it should be. The food was always, always great.
Broke our hearts when the place abruptly closed down...Guess
       somebody died.
       Now...It's a Mexican Comedy Club.

great story AJ, ...funny to hear the cooks and wait staff go at
in a laguage you don't comprende.
       Last line; 'Maybe somebody died'
haha..or got killed with a cleaver blow to the forehead in the
       kitchen ?
