J man was grooving to be sure. Was trying, but failed to make
out what guitar he was playing.
But I know the Frontmen stole those shirts from some Cuban
dudes.

Yeah, the front guys sho' could dance..but those shirts were def
Desi Arnez 'hand me downs'
cool follow up vid,.. interview with the Isley Bros. when they
hired jimi after their guitarist quit..
They bought him a brand new white Strat..or so they say...they
said Jimi stayed at their place in NYC ( actually their moms
house.) .and they watched the Beatles first performance on Ed
Sullivan together on the couch.
y'know, how one YT vid leads to another?
next vid I watched was a rep of Ed Sullivan relating how he
booked the Beatles for their American Debut on his show..
Ed was in London Airport (now Heathrow) on Oct 31, 1963, and
there were hundreds of young girls with signage all over the
airport awaiting the Beatles return to England from a concert in
Denmark..Beatles were tearing shit up in Europa..but practically
unheard of in the US.
Ed, being the savvy business fuck that he was..immediately had
the Beatles booked for his show Feb 1964..., then, per the
vid...he started pressuring NYC city radio stations to start
playing Beatle songs as a prelude..
People in hindsight, are wondering if the Mop tops would ever
had made it big here in the States, had it not been for Ed.?
pretty fucking interesting, not only did he bring the Beatles
over but brought the Stones, Kinks, Gerry and the Pacemakers,
The Searchers...

Ed Sullivan was a real promoter of new talent..And by most
accounts a decent man. One can't help but ponder what you said
about the "What if he hadn'ts".
I always dug what the Isley brothers put down. Wasn't but a few
years after Jimi's death that Ernie started dressing like Jimi,
and using a lot of effects on his Strat as well. Laid down some
dynamite shit too.
YouTube is really a source of what seems like unending journeys
into the past. When I'm on call, I spend a lot of time watching
video after video waiting for the inevitable service call.
I must say though, that you, Luke, Bucky, and Dave seem to have
a talent for finding the most interesting ones to post. About
50% of the ones I put up generate no replies or interest. I'm ok
with that completely, because I learn about you guys tastes that
way as well.
Had this weekend off call, but the guy on call has called me 5
times asking questions...He's only been flying solo since
January so I really don't mind mentoring him. But hell I was on
the phone with him until 11:30 tonight.....'S ok I guess...He's
got a lot on his mind. Broke up with his live-in Gal of 6 years
a couple of weeks ago. He has a degree in Wildlife Management
from Stephen F. Austin State U, but couldn't get a hookup for a
State job, which was his plan. Odd..Texas Parks and Wildlife
prefers Law Enforcement Degrees for Game Wardens, and for other
positions wants Masters Degrees. He's mechanically inclined
though, and suffered through our "Carry all the heavy shit,
Clean out this Motor room, Wash our trucks, Go get this for me,
Watch what I'm doing, Be my personal Slave" Apprenticeship
program without complaint, and he's picked the stuff up pretty
quick. His Dad is an Electrician so he had a lot of electrical
knowledge already.
How'd I get off on this? Shit I gotta get to bed.

Way back, maybe 1968 or thereabouts, after Hendrix hit it big I
bought an album with his name on it. "Jimi Hendrix Plays and
Curtis Knight Sings". Of course JH had been a sideman in his
band. I was so disappointed. The other disappointment
purchase that comes to mind is that after reading the Doors were
using a bass player from "Clear Light" for some concerts I
bought an album by that band. I learned a lesson. This was in
my teenage years and $4 or so for an album was significant.
And BTW, I think the Beatles would've broken through one way
or another.
I drove from Asheville NC to Bristol VA today to go to the
Birthplace of Country Music Museum. They're closed on Mondays.
And I'm a fucking idiot.

haha Jim, that's why I fucking love you man..you have a heart of
gold and are always looking out for the underdog..
you remind me so much of my bro, whose pics I posted here and
elsewhere, as my bro and band member..
He chose a field not too much different from yours, his best
stories were when he described a Youngblood on his job..
Before he told the guy/gals story ( usually at family gathering
i.e Christmas, thanksgiving ) he would set the stage with some
Bio info ..education, background, age, personal life etc. of his
subject..
The intro was sometimes lengthy, ( my Dad would be tapping the
drum beat from 'Wipeout' on the dinner table trying to hurry my
bro on.)
But when my bro got his story in gear about the guy/gal..we
always ended up hanging on his every word..
Some peeps,..they just know how to tell a good story, plus
totally capture the essence of their subject matter..
you have that going on too.. Jimbo. ;)

sounds like you are having fun Dave, yup, $4 was a lot of money
in the day...I can't tell you how many times I was burned by
that sort of music purchase, based on youthful exuberance and
love of music..
Shit, I used to spend my allowance buying all that dumb ass shit
from the ads in the back of Comic books...
Fucking Seahorse 'Families' ..whole armies made of
cardboard..magic tricks..
Sad, those Mutha fuckahs knew they were ripping off young
kids..but..no protection.. no laws, Let The Buyer Beware..
I took an elective course in HS..Distributive Education..the
teacher told us up front..'no contract is legal through the
mail' even if you signed a contract/waiver...
That gave ne carte blance as a teen to rip off Columbia Records
for Twelve Vinyl Albums for a fucking penny, with a promise to
join their 'Record Club'. lots of aliases= many free albums..
I got brazen,... and used aliases such as Mike Hunt, Jack Meoff,
Ben Dover, Haywood Jablowme, Mike Clitoris. etc. :)
I agree, Beatles would have broken the US market
eventually...but the Big Pond was a major natural barrier
between continents..
first trip I made to Europe as a teen, hitch hiked for 6+
months..it really was a very insular place..different
currencies, hardly any phone service..
But I digress..
Enjoy the rest of your trip, Dave!
