i am a shit father, but tonight i am proud as punch

my little lad, Lennon, started taking karate lessons a couple of
months ago, and tonight he gained his first belt. it's an
orange&white belt. i wasn't allowed to watch him being graded
due to the virus bollocks, but i snuck my head around the door
at the end of the session to hear his name called out, and
managed to catch a glimpse of him recieving his belt and
certificate. i felt a bit bad because he was supposed to remove
his white belt, then put on his new one - but i've been tying
his white belt for him since he started, so he didn't know how
to do it. it was fine though. his sensei said "you can't tie
your belt? who's been tying it for you?!" and he said "my dad!",
and his sensei said "oh, that's ok. he'll have to teach you how
to do it before you get your next belt" then tied it for him.
some water came out of my tear ducts, but i didn't cry, honest.
sorry for sharing this mundanity here, but i didn't have
anywhere else to put it, and i had an urge to share it with
       someone.

That is the very things I want posted here Nick. My Lad Tobias
took karate as well when he was a wee lad of 5. Actually took
part in a tournament in the state capitol. He made his opponent
cry. That was it for him. He just told me he felt bad and didn't
want to learn anymore about hurting people. He has not changed,
but I do wish he'd kept the discipline up a bit longer.
He's never been in a fight.
       :)

cheers jim. sounds like you raised a thoughtful, sweet kid. :)
mine hasn't done any combat training yet because of the
social-distancing stuff, so he's just been practising his kata's
and whatever else it is they do. as i'm not allowed in, i'm not
familiar with all the terminology. Lennon is quite shy, like i
was, but karate is really bringing him out of his shell, so i
hope he sticks with it. this is his sensei. he's a really nice
guy, but i wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of him

his sister gave him her iPod a couple of days ago, and he's
asked me to delete the taylor swift albums, and load the
following songs onto it ;D :-
       aha - take on me
bruce springsteen - born in the usa
bruce springsteen - dancing in the dark
carl douglas - kung fu fighting
deep purple - smoke on the water
elton john - circle of life
elton john - i'm still standing
harry styles - sign of the times ( i was messing around on his
guitar the other day whilst tuning it up. i played a few random
chords, and he said "i love that song!". i didn't know what he
meant, so i played the chords again - C Am G G7 - and he started
singing this. weird coincidence, and i do begrudingly think it's
       a great song)
minecraft - take me down (i have no idea what this is, so i just
ripped the audio from whatever came up on youtube)
       motorhead - ace of spades
       post malone - sunflower
queen - don't stop me now
white stripes - seven nation army
i don't think that's a bad list. i have no idea who post malone
is, and i'm a bit disappointed he hasn't requested any beatles,
       but it's early days 8)

Post Malone is a pop artist with a very tattooed face. Can’t say
I have ever heard his music.
I asked the Lad about the Minecraft soundtrack and he
immediately knew what it was and confirmed it’s rocking
coolness. The Lad’s listening music is 90% video game
soundtracks and has been for years. Apparently, this is a
widespread practice. The rest of the list is kind of surprising
really. Your boy has a wide palette of taste musically! Very
       cool!😎
