       Ordered a thing
By: AJ Date: October 18, 2020, 6:18 pm

The amount of recording I have done since my 234 locked up has
been paltry and puny. Could never really get onboard with the
       whole DAW scene.
       I need faders and knobs.
So I ordered a Tascam M-24 today. Should hit next Saturday. I’m
anxious and eager to start playing and recording again! And I
       need eager real bad.

sweet! that many knobs would keep me busy, the curve us steep
enough for me with this video camera... and its only got two
       tracks.

I anticipate a helluva learning curve for myself. But the idea I
can employ every mike I have, and a discrete recording of each
       one sounds fun.

       Yep. JBL’s.
Haven’ t heard em yet. Last night I formatted a SD card for use
in the deck, started reading the manual and familiarization with
       the machine in general.
I was immediately struck with two things:
The heft and general robustness of the thing. Quality feel to
       the appointments.
And the fact that all those years ago, I spent the same amount
of money for a 4 channel cassette deck alone that I spent for a
24 track recorder, with a built in 24 track mixer....with built
in compression, and an array of reverbs and digital effects. For
the new deck, and new powered monitors, just under $1500.
Now I gotta go see my Lad in Huntsville and show him pics of how
       I’m squandering his inheritance. 😂

That's a pretty cool thing you have there.
I had a peek through the manual, and I like the fact that it's a
stand alone recorder as well as a 24/22 track USB recording
       interface.
The best of both worlds, all in the same package.
I think you're gonna have some fun with this little beastie. 8)

I think so too. I've already noticed a couple of drawbacks
however. One being, you cannot simply bounce tracks around
internally. You either have to take patch cords and route the
tracks you want moved from the sub mix ports to the tracks you
want to move them to, and record them there. Or, take the sd
card out of the deck, move it to the computer, and move the
files over to open tracks on the card. Seems that wouldn't have
been that hard to have incorporated into the software in the
MTR, but I don''t know shit about programming , nor the size of
the processor in the MTR section of the deck. Not an issue yet
really, and I have cables coming out of my ass. I don't know
that I've ever thrown a patch cord or cable away....like ever.

funny, i was going through cables today to do a little recording
and realized i have four shure brand mic cables and two shure
line adapter transformers that ive had since 1973... nice
fat, 30 ft long, heavy mic cables that lay flat and dont get
tangled up like these flippin’ nuetrik cables... resoldered one
xlr cable end back on around 77, when i also picked up this
shure PE-50 mic that still kicks any 2 sm-58’s to the curb... ,
theyve been one of the best bang for the bucks audio expenditure
       ive ever made.
i remember a good friend picking up a tascam 24 channel like
that. last i knew he had bought a house and converted it into a
studio about an hour from columbus, ohio... redefining “home
       studio”, so be careful... lol!
