Just a couple pokes on the pipe for me (purely medicinal, of
course)---Cinny quit partaking when she gave up tobacco two
       years ago.
Maybe three shots of bourbon apiece. Not a great amount, just
enough to celebrate completion of the task.

Well now. The parent corporation of Ball (my mother's maiden
name, incidentally---no relation) who makes almost ALL the
canning equipment has announced that there will be no more
       production this year.
       WTF?
In a time of unprecedented demand, I would think they'd be fired
up and pumping it out! Granted, canning season---in this region,
anyway---is over for 2020, but we canners are always looking to
restock. Lids are single-use, rings get rusty, jars break, or
you simply need more. We do.
Same dealio with the electric canning appliances. I know of
several people wanting to acquire one (or more). Why are they
still unavailable? Makes no sense to me. When my painting
business took off in the early 90s, I didn't turn down work---I
       hired painters!

I neglected to report---a couple weeks ago, we finally got one!
       An electric canner, I mean.
We ordered twice in the past only to be subsequently cancelled
       for lack of availability. Frustrating.
This one came from the manufacturer, Nesco. Had to pay full
retail, almost $180---a lot, but we will use the heck out of it.
Five quart capacity, same as our big pressure cooker. But much
faster and more efficient. less heating up the kitchen
       (significant in canning season).

---and another score! Last week Cinny found regular-mouth lids
on Amazon. Got 120 for $25.
Did our bimonthly WalMart trip yesterday, they had WIDE-MOUTHS!
       Got 60 for about $16.50.
These are slightly elevated prices, but so be it---just glad to
have some. They've been rare as proverbial hen's teeth all year.
We're okay on jars and rings---Cinny did inventory recently.
Canning 2021's harvest is assured. Here's hoping for a decent
       growing season.
