Checking out a new meat market today

Cinny discovered this place through one of her FB foodie groups.
It's in Waterford MI, about 20 miles south of here. Excellent
prices, very good reviews. We need to stock the freezer.
They offer some attractive package deals, but like all of these
I see, way too heavy on the ground cow. We have a good source of
ground cow and pig (her store's going-out-of-date high quality
stuff that nobody buys).
I'm a bit concerned about one thing though. They advertise that
everyone MUST wear a mask, no exceptions. I am officially exempt
because of my cardiopulmonary disease, and to deny me entrance
is a violation of the ADA---but I'm going to try anyway, even
though I have a genuinely hard time breathing with any kind of
face covering. I'll wrap a bandanna around my face (least
obnoxious way I've found). If it becomes too onerous, I'll
remove it and we'll see how it goes.
Anyway---this week's specials include chicken leg quarters for
69c a pound, boneless skinless boobs for a buck nine a pound.
Some nice prices on better cuts of steak and roast. Looking
forward to this.

Well?
How'd it go?
Were there deals to be had?
Are you and Cinny gonna eat well this week?
I have so many questions...

It was a hoot! Small store, a bit cramped and crowded. All the
meat is behind glass. You enter, get assigned an employee who
goes from section to section with you and pulls your selections
from behind the case. A bit of a different way to do it, but it
worked well.
We got 1lb ea provolone and muenster; few lbs of beer brats, 1lb
of hot Italian sausage; a pork loin roast, 3lbs of country-style
pork ribs; 2 huge beef rib steaks, 4 Delmonicoes;10lbs ea
chicken leg quarters and b/s breasts. Total bill: $80.34!!! I
was expecting $125. And our helper d00d wheeled it out to the
truck and loaded the cooler we brought.
I spoke to a few other customers, all experienced with the
store. All assured me the product is top notch, best quality. It
looks it.
They were very understanding when I had to step off by myself
and pull the bandanna down for a minute. Got a little bit dizzy
at one point, had to sit down---they didn't mind.
All in all, a very positive experience. Great products, prices
and customer service. Top marks.

Service style meat markets are vanishing. Except for one
distinct group, Hispanics. All of the Hispanic targeted grocery
stores down here have service cases and staff for them as
opposed to self service cases in all the other chains.

I had never experienced this before. It was great---one employee
who served us from beginning to end. Answered questions,
obviously knew his stuff, took care of everything.
I was impressed big BIG.

Glad it went well for you, and that you've found a new shopping
spot.
There's a small town on the way out to Dinkleville that
specializes in Eastern European (Ukrainian) style
cured/processed meats. It's also a service counter type setup.
It reminds me of when I was a kid, although we didn't stop at
the butcher's too often. We raised and ate our own meat, for the
most part. Papa D was an avid hunter as well, so we ate a lot of
venison and moose meat, too.

Known as "back bacon" up here by the North Pole.
Your description is spot on.

Mmm... deep fried anything....
Mama D used to make breaded, fried, moose meat cutlets. I could
never get enough of those either.

I have never tasted moose. Don't have them in the lower
peninsula.
Elk, now---om nom NOM!
