The backup big auger is at the shop for a grease job and the
replacement of the hand winch system for the swing out with an
electric one. Yay!

Harvesting peas. This combine later had a siezed fan belt
bearing which took it out of action. I got to drive a couple of
hours for parts, and the New Holland dealer messed up the order.

The peas are going in the hopper. This is what it's all about.

The pic I took while standing in front of the "don't stand here
while the combine is in motion" sticker. :P

As the sun set, the peas became tough (damp) and wouldn't feed
through the header properly. The operator has to pull out the
clogged material by hand. It pretty much sucks when this
happens. They shut it down for the day shortly after this shot
was taken.

Looks like you let the peas pretty much dry on the stem, yes?

They let them dry as much as they can, and then they are sprayed
with a desiccant to finish the process. The trade name of the
chemical bro used this year is called Heat. I don't remember the
scientific name of the chemical. He said it didn't work as well
as whatever he used last year. He won't be using it again.

They are sold for human consumption or animal feed, depending on
the grade. India used to be a big market for Canadian peas, but
there's some kind of trade dispute going on right now. They used
to bring $10/bushel, but since India backed out they are
bringing around $7. Bro says he may not grow them next year
because at $7 they're not worth the extra chemical expense and
hassle.

I'm not a pea shooter expert, but I'd say they are. They are
hard as rocks by the time they are dry enough to harvest. These
peas were testing at 15.6% moisture when these pics were taken.
