I tried to find a recording I used to hear sometimes on Bob's
Scratchy Records. It was "Mr. Tambourine Man" and the credited
guitar player (according to Bob) was "Mr. Twelve String".
I guess Glenn did a good bit of uncredited studio work in his
early days before fame set in. He was a talented dude.
Not sure if we are talking about the same recording of
Mr. Tambourine Man' but the cover of the Dylan song that soared
to the top of the charts was by the Byrds..
Jim ( later Roger) McGuinn was the only member of the actual
Byrds allowed to play an instrument on the recording...his
lovely Rickenbacker Maple-Glo 360/12 .
The Byrds, did sing..but famous studio cats and female felines
played the instruments.
Jim-Roger McGuinn was actually a studio cat for many folk acts
in NYC and LA. prior to the Byrds.
While Glen may have played on Byrds records, I thought for sure
all the Rick work was Rogers...I know on that first LP it was
all studio musicians except for Roger on the instruments..But
thought the harmonies were by the Byrds. I may be mistaken.
Supposedly...They weren't all that live...I've yet to find a
good live performance of their's on Youtube, except for a couple
with the amazing Clarence White...But by then the lineup had
changed.. I think they shone in the studio, and I remain a
devotee of same.
Roger's solo on "Eight miles High" is one of my favorite solos
ever...It's a delicious chaos. His slower solos like on
"Turn,Turn,Turn", "5D", "My Back Pages" are simply burned into
my heart...Every note is perfect to my ear.

No, Glen didn't play for the Byrds. He covered "Tambourine Man"
as an instrumental as seen above in my pictures.

If you look at the Mr. Twelve String Guitar album, you'll see
"Mr. Tambourine Man" listed.

"The Big Bad Rock Guitar of Glen Campbell"
Boy....I can just imagine the CEO Music Magnate that came up
with that cheesy ass album name.
Glen could back it up to be sure....But still...
"The Monolithic Gain Drenched Tones Of Jimmy Page"
"The Futuristic Frenzied Feedback of Jimi Hendrix"
I could go on but...

They had trouble placing him in a specific genre from the get
go.

I suspect because he could easily travel between them with ease.
Working on your tune at the moment...Took a short break to check
in...
Fear I may be overthinking my whole approach to
it...Bassically..

So, he's finally getting some Johnny Cash level dues.
Going back and reviewing his albums on my blog the past week has
really brought memories and feelings I forgot about.
