Saturday on call..And NGD!

...relatively un-eventful. Had a service call this
morning...Only logged 2 hours of OT on that one...Came home with
some homemade tamales and the wife and I knoshed on those...Came
to the Bunker, plugged in the bass and went back to work on
Bucky's tune..
Then the doorbell rang....FedEx and a large package...The guitar
surprise from the Wife and The Lad. (Posted about this in
another thread...Don't remember which one...I kind of like the
way our threads morph in to all sorts of directions though)
I gave them a $200 limit. I gotta say...They dun gud. They
didn't stay on the beam as far as the ones I'd put on the list.
They found an Ovation/Applause model that was on clearance sale.
The list one it is like $525 or so and they got it for $178. Has
a real pretty Koa top. Acoustic/ electric thing which I've no
experience with. It sounds ok on it's own...But plugged in it
sounds Very Good! Even has a built in tuner. Pretty wild. The
action could be better, but I think the strings are cheap
roundwounds. of course I told the Wife it was great and that put
a big smile on her face...And I'm really quite pleased with the
sound of it through the piezo pickup.

service call :'(
Just got back....May be next weekend before I get anything
musical done...
Shit...just got another one as I was typing... >:D

Hey Jim, kudos to the wife and lad for their thoughtfulness..and
going outside the box in their choice...I really dig the cutaway
and the Koa top.
It looks like that guitar is getting 4-5 star reviews on all the
selling sights..If I got the model right.
With your gear acumen, I'm sure you will have that baby set up
just the way you want it in no time.

Well it's a Chinese made guitar Dave...So we aren't talking a
Gibson or a Martin here. It's new, the frets are tall, the
strings are abrasive, and my calluses are used to a low action
Fender electric. It's a little painful, it sounds better
through the piezo pickup than it does au natrual. I'm not used
to the curved back endemic to Ovation products. I've never owned
or even played an acoustic/electric before so it's a learning
experience playing with the eq section on it. It can sound quite
a bit like a gut string guitar, but without the pliability of
gut strings.
But it's a pretty thing...And I'm having fun with it, and
grateful for it, and touched that the Wife and The Lad put in
the leg work to get it for me.
