Less than 1% of the national population has contracted this
disease. A minuscule percentage of those have died.
       Please.
       Stop this hysteria.

200,000+ people. Just in this country. It’s plenty of reason for
concern. It’s only minuscule until it kills someone you know.

people are encouraged to wear masks and socially distance, which
lowers the infection rate, then people say "the infection rate
is so low, why the hell are we wearing masks and socially
distancing?". it's a chicken and egg scenario.

Yes, it is. I’m no stranger to doubts concerning all of this
shit, but I have come to believe that we should all err on the
       side of caution.

Yes---approximately 211,000 deaths out of a population of
       331,000,000. That's 0.06% of the population. I agree it's reason
for concern, but it's not a reason to shut down the world.
It's also true that no one I know personally has died of
it---though I know a few who contracted it, were bad sick for a
       spell, then recovered.
A neighbor who I was friendly with died back in the spring. He
decided to forego further dialysis for his kidney failure due to
complications from diabetes. His death was officially
       pronounced---you guessed it---covid 19. I've heard of many other
such misreported cases, but only anecdotally; I have no proof.
       This one, I'm sure of.
The "experts" can't seem to get their story straight. They tell
us one thing today, another thing tomorrow, something else next
Thursday. No consistency. Their credibility is questionable at
       best.
Here in Michigan, our governor went absolutely nuts issuing
executive orders. Some of them got people killed; others were
blatant power grabs. Our supreme court just ruled that she had
no authority to act as she did---now her camp is claiming that
the ruling is politically motivated. Is it? Could be, for all I
know. This government hasn't served we, the people in a long,
long time---why would I think they're going to start now?
Like I said---concern, yes, definitely. Especially people like
ME: over 60, heart and lung disease, one of the most
susceptible. You damn betcha I'm concerned, brother! I'm taking
what I consider to be reasonable precautions. I'm mostly a
hermit by nature, so avoiding contact comes with little effort.
I don't tolerate face coverings well, they make me dizzy within
minutes, and I'm at risk of contracting pleurisy from them. BUT
I try. Mostly to avoid shitstorms. I'm not looking for conflict.
So yes, concern. But not mass hysteria. I firmly believe that a
large part of this whole scenario is politically motivated (and
I want to stress again, I despise both parties about equally)
but that might be grist for another conversation.

Well said Dan’l. The whole thing has without a doubt, been
politicized. Hysteria, no it should not be a cause for hysteria.
It should demand absolute seriousness, with every opinion from
medical and government sources of information on the topic
       treated with scrutiny.

over here, at the beginning of the week, we have new rules,
frequent contacts are limited to 3 persons/month
bars, pubs and clubs again to stay closed for 4 weeks
and the rest of them stay in force, indoor events restricted to
       200 peeps, with social distancing,
outdoor events up to 400 peeps, social distancing
no dancing, no walking around at events
       masks are mandatory
       work from home if possible
       travel restrictions
welp, I've worked from home for 3 weeks and am back in office
since April, this working from home thing actually was not too
       bad
the rest of the rules are, well, no fun
       stay safe

They're supposed to announce new voluntary restrictions (I guess
that makes them more recommendations than restrictions) for my
city today. They're also hinting that if the numbers continue
to climb, they won't be so voluntary.
       Fuck covid. >:(
