Thanks. All good here so far. I don't even know anyone who's
sick with this. I'm not doing much of anything different---but
then my ordinary life is pretty isolated anyway. The only times
I really interact with people are when I go pick up Cinny from
work or the infrequent shopping trip (none of those lately).
Most businesses are closed, public offices closed, events
cancelled or postponed. Cinny's gas station/convenience store is
considered "essential", and so remains open.
Shit is indeed real---but is it the huge hysterical deal it's
being made out to be?---or are there other factors at play here?
       I wonder---
       [/quote]
One must always wonder these days. The media has to have
something to talk about so unfortunately everything they report
has to be viewed with a grain of salt. The sheer numbers
       involved demand our attention though.
Thing for me is, being a mechanical person by trade, I wash my
hands a lot anyway. Plus I spend more time with machines than
people. But grocery stores are full of people so I am exposed
       when I walk through them.
I don’t know anyone that has this bug yet either.
We’ll just have to live with this ration of madness for a while.

Err on the side of caution friend. Better to stay safe and
perhaps later feel a bit silly than to find out the fool was the
one that practiced bravado and ended up a statistic.

I just learned there are 428 confirmed cases and 4 deaths in my
county. Now, I'm at the very northernmost end of the county; the
south is Pontiac and some of Detroit's bedroom communities.
Still. I'm beginning to take this a bit more seriously.
I'm making a supply run this morning, then coming home and
STAYING home. Cinny's got about 2 weeks' paid time off on the
books. The store is already short of staff, but oh well.
       Considering it.
With my heart and lung issues, and my age, I'm considered
high-risk. In short, I likely would not survive it. Hmm...
I still think there's more going on than we know.

It’s not just waiters and waitresses etc. that are hurting from
this shutdown. My niece, who lives in Massachusetts, has a. PhD
in neuroscience. She is in a private practice with another
doctor in Rhode Island. She works exclusively with folks that
have had traumas to the brain from a variety of causes, from
diseases, to accidents, from wounds in warfare. A lot of Terror
war vets, a lot of old folks as well.
Her husband is a scientist as well. Works at Lincoln Labs at
MIT. He’s considered “Essential” personel because they do a lot
       of DOD work.
They have a precocious 7 year old daughter. Now, schools are
closed. No child care facilities are open either. Children are
not allowed at Lincoln Labs because they might be Russian or
Chinese spies. My niece spends an average of 3 hours per
appointment with her patients. Taking the niecette to work with
her simply isn’t practical. Her patients are canceling
appointments left and right for a variety of reasons. Because of
the long lag times involved with billing due to insurance and
government red tape, there is a real and imminent threat to the
       practice.
To be sure, her and her husband make a nice living between them.
They have a cushion, financially to ride this out for a while.
But if her practice collapses, it could take a year or more to
restart it. A lot of vets and old people benefit from the
therapies she utilized to help them back to normalcy.
Even the middle class is getting a smack down from this virus.

You too Nick! I had to have a teladoc visit today because I
torqued my back and it’s killing me. Was weird seeing my md on
the phone. He sent me out some muscle relaxers though so
hopefully tonight I’ll get some relief and some sleep!
       I just hope I don’t get a service call! 🙄

ive had one drunken redneck come visit so far... standing in
the middle of a twenty acre pasture, i assume drunk, he was
yelling at a great dane, two english mastiffs, a rottweiler and
an australian shepherd... yes, start a fight with animals that
can eat your ass... for real? first round from the ak was
into the ground and the dogs all disengaged and ran for the
house... the next three rounds sent the asshole merrily on his
way back through the numerous “no trespassing” and “electric
fence” warnings posted at legal distances... i know for a fact
he pissed his pants... kick at my fucking dogs on their home
ground? . i get a poacher or thief every once in a while... its
       where i live. i wear a .45 1911 and keep a 10/22 ruger /red
dot hsndy if im not expecting trouble... i can reach damn
near anyplace on property from the roof of the old house with
the 06... and a folding applegate/fairbairn in my pocket for
cuttin’ string... dano? i know damn well why you carry... we
have some of the same neighbors...
