within 2 days of making that announcement official, alchemy burn
and emergence both sent me forms to fill out... 2000 and 2500
for the gigs. they both said i would be missed at loveburn and
they dont want to take a chance if im still interested... its
beginning to look like the market will support in the
neighborhood of 3g for a weekend festival but within a days
travel there are 10 or 12 private venues that are easily within
1000 for a day and evening event. its less
expensive/hassle/general bullshit than festival gigs, less road
and on site time... its 5 to 6 days work to play a “weekend”
festival gig... oh yeah, doc bronners artist acquisition guy
called me today. hes a long time cannabis and political activist
in dc and i will admit its a helluva kick to be at a huge public
event and have one of the cities more well known and loved
activists run into my dome... “ wizard!! come on!! you have
to see this!”. he and his wife grab me by the hand and we run to
the effigy burn... he had this elaborate set up all ready and
the wind direction and blah blah... then they lit it and it was
all spices and aromatic herbs... cinnamon, vanilla,... palo
santo, juniper, sage... sweet grass... he said they remembered
me saying the chemical and petroleum smell at one burn was
oppressive and thought id be happy to know they are listening to
my concerns on the environment... theyve earmarked a 2000
grant to cover my expenses in april this year... if they ask me
to sign on one more time, im going to do it... now, why in the
fuck did i agree to the ted talk? i need a manager thats not
afraid to say, “no jamie...thats stupid, consider this... “.
