Decided to go radical

...That is with my approach to my cancer.
My best chances for survival, long term, are to have my prostate
removed. The MRI convinced my Doctor that the cancer is inside
my prostate, as opposed to on the outside of it.
This means removing it while give me the best chance of it not
spreading.
It will make me a gelding of course. It's not an easy choice.
But there are people that love me...For some reason they want me
around a while longer.
The recovery doesn't sound like a load of fun......
I meet with the Doc here in a another wee or so and I guess
we'll schedule the operation then.
There isn't really a smiley or emoji available to represent how
I feel right now.

Damn, that had to be a hard decision to make. You made the
right one, though, in my opinion. Still, what a drag that you
had to make it at all.
"Gelding"? Not really---you'll still have your boys, still be
making "male" hormones.
In the TMI file, since my strokes, I have been totally impotent.
"Erectile dysfunction" is the polite term. It's not something I
would've chosen, but once I got used to it, it's not so bad.
Actually changed my perspective on a lot of things, mostly for
the better. I wish the same for you, if that's the way it works
out.
It's good that they're moving this along fairly rapidly. Being
in limbo over this sort of thing SUCKS---that, I know well.
How long is the projected recovery? Any special conditions to
it?
Pulling for you, AJ. Keep me informed brother.

as far as recovery...2 to 4 weeks. Incontinence with varying
degrees of length a side effect of the surgery. urinal tract
issues perhaps. But removal seems the best bet for getting shed
of the shit. Radiation...A lot shorter recovery time, but the
outcome less sure. It's a better bet for removal because then
you have radiation as a back up. If you do radiation and it
doesn't work it makes removal a much more serious operation
because everything down there gets kind of glued together.
Incontinence and impotency are side effects with either
treatment.
My brother was 50 when his was found and he opted for radiation
despite the doctors strongly recommending removal. It came back
2 years later. Now he has the shit in his throat as well. He's
been living with a death sentence hanging over his head for
years now. You can understand that. He's devil may care though.
His boys are both grown, in the Military, he feels he's
accomplished his mission and he drinks like a fish, lives his
life.
I hope I'm getting ahead of this shit. I wanna see the Lad get
his degree.
Hell...I just want him to get a girlfriend and have some sex.
He's 24 and a virgin. He's says he just not in a hurry.
Funny....He's got hair past his shoulders, but straight as an
arrow....He's a great kid. A complete stoic with a desert dry
sense of humor. I just want to stick around and see him settle
in on a life path.

Oof. That’s a rough blow to deal with but it sounds like you’re
handling it as well as one can.
Sounds like you're in for a lengthy and unpleasant ordeal, but
nowadays chances of beating cancer are good.
Take the operation and beat that cancer
energies sent your way!
