       Hard it is....

... to find flavorful tomatoes 🍅. Also good plums, black
or red. Actually got some good plums yesterday at Kroger. Red
ones. Pretty tasty, not mealy at all. The tomatoes, not so much.
The only consistently good ones seem to be the small, cherry
like ones branded “Glory’s “. Nice beefy flavor to them.
I’ve tried growing my own tomatoes, many attempts. Meager
       results.

Supermarket tomatoes are always a disappointment. They usually
look beautiful and taste like nothing. That's what inspired my
interest in gardening---blah store produce. I'm fortunate to
live in a place that usually has good growing conditions.
Usually. This year's early season weather made my tomatoes a
major disappointment. Didn't set much fruit, won't ripen. I've
grown bumper crops in the past. Two years ago we put up over 50
quarts of canned tomatoes, made hot sauce and ketchup and salsa.
I typically grow Amish pastes, San Marzanos and one or two
slicer varieties. A dozen or so plants total.
So this year we bought a bushel of Mountain Fresh tomatoes from
a local grower for $25. Wonderful canning stock. Got 20 quarts
out of that bushel, going to call later today and see if they've
still got some---I'll get another bushel and can 20 more. Their
sweet corn is also wonderful. I've grown my own in the past, and
it was good, but it takes up a lot of space and theirs is better
       anyway.
Really looking forward to a better season next year.
