I just fell down AGAIN

Fuck me, this gets old in a hurry.
I was emptying done lettuce decktop rail boxes of soil into
garbage cans for next year's use. My feet got crossed up (I
never know where my left leg is going) and I took a header. Flat
out.

Felt cartilage in my left ribcage go POP when I fell---in
serious pain now. Got some leftover Vicodin from February's
dental evolutions---I hate to take that shit but I just had
Cinny bring me half of one. Going to bed.
Shit.

Damn dude. If it’s swollen and blue you had best get to a M.D. !
Don’t be stubborn.

Forgot how codones kinda "boost" ya at first---too hyper to go
to sleep.
It's a bit swollen but no discoloration. Sore as hell. No
serious damage, I'm sure, just annoying.
The hell of it is, I didn't fall on my ribs, I twisted as I fell
and landed on my right side/butt/arm. It's my left ribs that got
damaged. Go figger.

I screwed my back up pretty bad 30 years ago. I just suffered
with it for a long time. Finally, after not really having a
Doctor, I went to my wife's. He probed around until he hit the
sweet spot and I yelped like a scalded dog. He sent me across
the hall for a couple of X-Rays. 30 minutes later he comes in.
The guy is a Scot, and said, "Well Jim what you have is 3
compressed discs. While your a bit fucked up now, you'll be
permanently fucked up after a bloody surgeon cuts a bit on you.
So here is what we are going to do".
He gave me a prescription for Soma and Hydrocodone. I filled
them, Took one of each at bedtime. When i woke up, I had
complete mobility back. Although my back was sore, the agonizing
pain of moving around was gone. I couldn't believe it. I never
missed a day of work due to the pain before, but that day i was
a new man by noon.
Even more unbelievably... The Doc CALLED ME AT MY HOUSE THAT
NIGHT! he wanted to know how I was!! I told him him I was
better than I'd been in years, and thanked him. He asked me if
was going to take any pills tonight, and I said no sir, no need!
He asked if I was still a bit sore, and I said yes so he told
me, take a Soma tonight, and every night for a week, if had any
soreness after that to let him know. They don't make Docs like
that anymore and he's retired. I had open scripts to both of
those meds FOR YEARS. I only used them when I torqued my back.
I realized, very early, that hydrocodone was a VERY pleasant
drug. So every once in a great while, I'd take one of those and
have a couple of whiskeys and feel quite alright. I never
emptied a bottle before it went out of date though.
Well Doc retired and the new Doc I got is one of these "Never an
Opioid" guys. So now when I torque the old spine I just have to
suffer. He will give me Somas when it gets really bad though.
Fortunately, I haven't had an incident in a long time.
