yup, behind the scenes All Things Automatic is slowly working
       towards a new album release
we harvested 24 songs in the past couple of years and we made a
       selection of about 10 songs
we did a demo and started looking for a producer
first producer did not make it, we did one track with him, nice
guy, he did exactly what we asked him to do and in the end and
       it just didn't sound right
it seemed we had been playing/listening to our own material too
much and the songs just did not cut it and we were stuck
second producer that took us on was a far better choice
first of all he insisted we start all over again
he kept a couple of riffs/sounds/vocal hooks, but we had to come
up with new lyrics, intros, verses, choruses, bridges, endings,
       chord changes, ...
       an entire makeover
so we rented a luxurious mansion in the countryside near
       Brussels and revamped our songs
produced would come over in the eveninigs to check on us and was
never pleased with our efforts, he was pushing us hard, but we
       were getting there
after this pre production session, he suggested to give it a
       rest and do another session
we did the second session in London, it was very inspirational
session and we figured we finally were ready to cut the new
       songs
we then practiced the new material and scheduled a recording
session in one of the finest recording studios in Europe
       happens to be in Brussels
we went in and figured we would lay down the songs as they were
when we drove off to the studio, I said, lets work hard and also
       have some fun
but our producer had different plans
       again, he was pushing us
he wanted to change things and come up with new riffs and lines
       and hooks on the spot
it was stressful, exhausting and humiliating at times
we also did have some fun and the studio was fantastic
I knew they had a whole gear arsenal, but I wanted to use my own
       guitars
       I brought myb 69 ES-335, 65 Gretsch Country Gentleman and 72
       Fender Telecaster
my morning routine was to go into the studio early and practice
my riffs on my ES-335 through a 1949 Gibson BR9 tube amp

our studio had 2 recording rooms, one for acoustic instruments
       (it was the "practice" room)

and one bigger soundproof room that we used for recording
       guitars/vocals

here's my set-up, I used a ToneKing amp for recording

bass was recorded straight into the desk (through a late 40s RCA
       preamp) in the control room
it was a huge Neve desk

here are the 3 outboard racks that we used
       mainly preamps, compressores, limiters

I was a bit surprised to see they still kept the old tape
       machines up and running
       we did not use them

the studio had a big central room downstairs, mostly vintage
gear, I just had to walk down the stairs and take what I need
now, we still have 7 songs to finish we we're not even halfway
       there yet
       but we're getting there
sooooooooooooooo, I had my annual digital detox, 10 days without
       computer, phone, TV, radio ...
I spent these 10 days in Berlin so had enough distraction, and
       lots of alcohol
anybody heard from Dano lately ?

Wow! Gear orgasm! You know your someplace serious when they have
desks and racks like those! Not to mention a spare Leslie laying
about. Beautiful 335 man! Can hardly wait to hear some tracks!
