When I make a pot of beans, I like a mix of pintos and Navy
beans. Kroger sells a bag configured that way. 2# bag.
I usually just cook a pound at a time for my little bunch.
First, I soak the beans over night, and yes i have a pot just
       for them.
The next day, rinse 'em off.
Then put 'em in a pot. Cover the beans by about an inch of
water. out in a smoked ham hock.
Bring them to a rapid boil, then put in 3 tablespoons of ..

       stuff.
Reduce to a simmer, and just leave 'em be for 3 hours or so with
       the lid, slightly cocked.
Chop up some onions, make some cornbread...It's a meal.
       ;D

I have started making chili with less meat and more beans.
I use black eyed peas, red kidney beans and pot barley along
with maybe a third of the ground beef I would typically use.
Sometimes I will throw a can or two of good ol' pork and beans.
Doesn't taste too bad, considering my limited culinary skills.
       :D
       ^Not really a recipe, but more of a life-experience. ;)

I love beans. Fresh snap beans, dried beans, soy beans, any old
       beans.
I'm growing over a dozen varieties this year, plus lentils (and
       three varieties of peas).
I really gotta get with the program and figger out how to post
       pics on this site.
