July 4

Special forum theme for today. Fancy huh?
Got my flag up. Texted my thanks to my nephews who are in the
service.
No special plans for today. I’m on standby for the guy on call
so not straying to far from home.
Possible a grill will be employed at some point.
Tonight we’ll kick back and watch the neighborhood send their
disposable income into the skies. Might, or might not, down a
cold beer while doing so.
Mostly just going to enjoy a day off to chill a bit, and tip my
hat to those who have served, and do serve keeping this country
free.
Thanks for your service Dano!

today i get to try to keep horses in a fence all but
destroyed... no barn to put them in, thanks michael...
dogs from abusive situations that will try to run off or dig
through the laundry room walls to get away from the
explosions... all while wondering if the kids held in
concentration camps will enjoy the fireworks...
as a native, i have always had a bit of a bitter taste at some
holidays...thanksgiving, 4th of july in particular. please
understand my difficulty at being assimilated into the
collective... but im having a real tough time over celebrating
what i see as a farce.

I do understand Jamie. We’ve talked about the very valid
feelings and righteous anger that wells up inside you regarding
these days. Your ancestors got one of the rawest deals, and
cruelest treatments in human history.
You’ve every right to turn a jaundiced eye towards the
celebrations that ensue today.
My dog always was inconsolable during firework
holidays.....Thunderstorms too. Hope your charges fare well
tonight.

I'll see if I can send you some of ours.
We have had a wet, rainy and generally cold last 6 weeks or so.

^This
The indigenous peoples of Canada got an equally raw deal, and
still are getting one to this day.
It makes me sad when I drive through the first nations areas in
our province. :(

...so let's all be very, very ashamed on this day. Never mind
celebrating how this great country exists, let's pick it apart
and bitch and fucking whine about every single negative thing we
possibly can.
WTF, you guys?
It's nice to hear "thanks for your service", but I often find
myself biting my tongue NOT to reply with the answer that often
occurs to me.
And I'm fucking sick of being called a fucking Nazi.
Pardon me, I'm not feeling very "loving" today.

I meant the thanks in a genuinely respectful way Bro.
The person that lumped you in with nazis has informed he has
left this forum.
No one else here thinks of you that way.
The beauty of this country is you can think the way you want to,
express those thoughts the way you want to. You can also hold
sacred, or disdain anything.

bite my tongue.
I'm in a totally shit mood. I apologize. This is a real tough
day for me to begin with, and I just wish we could have ONE
DAY---ah, screw it.

My dad was born in '32 as well. He also died in July...July
16th, 1989.
I know what you mean about having one day to...Well.....I know
what you mean. We have to make those days for ourselves I guess.
The Declaration of Independence is something beyond American
really. I think it's worth celebrating as a treatise for freedom
of thought. The fact that the nation it formed is still trying
to realize the promise set forth by that document, is
undeniable. The thing is, way back then, a few brave, somewhat
crazy characters managed to put down in words an abject
condemnation of tyranny.
The ideals set forth in that document are worthy of praise. The
sacrifices made should be honored. The sins should be accounted
for as well.
On July 4...It would be great, if as Americans we could all just
stand together as Brothers and Sisters....And then take up our
arguments with each other tomorrow.
That just ain't the world we live in anymore, however. I don't
think that world ever really was.
So I put out my flag....Grilled some burgers and drank two
beers. Tonight I'll be cussing the knuckleheads out shooting
fireworks into the wee hours while I'm trying to get some sleep.
'Cuz it's America...And i gotta work tomorrow.
I go on call tomorrow night....I'm gonna be a bitchy bastard for
the next 7 days and nights.
